Parlour sound very promising, although hard to pin down. "Amor" is like a cross between Studio and A Mountain of One - melodramatic widescreen balearic prog-MOR. "Capriccio" is bloated beardo-italodisco-rock. "Theme" is ridiculous afro-disco-pop that's a bit Boney M.

True to form, Studio, A Mountain of One, Richard Norris and Permanent Vacation are all friends with them.

Tim F, Thursday, 26 June 2008 16:36 (fifteen years ago) link

can someone leo either/both permanent vacation mixes?

gr8080, Thursday, 26 June 2008 16:48 (fifteen years ago) link

"mark e is so crucial"

naturally, i'd love to agree given that i have had a few emails over the last couple of years from people thinking i'm the man behind these tracks, but to be honest, i aint feeling this stuff.

yet.

i heard "foreign affair" by mike oldfield on the radio while eating at a restaurant in prague and it was :D :D :D

impudent harlot, Friday, 27 June 2008 20:21 (fifteen years ago) link

fits in wonderfully with this stuff, but i imagine everyone who posts to this thread has heard it by this point and i am ten years in the past as usual

impudent harlot, Friday, 27 June 2008 20:22 (fifteen years ago) link

aside:

i'm assuming from context the meaning of to "leo" or "leonardo" (v.) is "plz to send me this music thing." how'd this one come about? why? etc.? just curious.

andrew m., Friday, 27 June 2008 20:24 (fifteen years ago) link

old noize board thread. it was a title that got switched up a bunch of times and ended up that way

jergins, Friday, 27 June 2008 20:43 (fifteen years ago) link

apparently not everyone loves balearic stylings. was in the car yesterday and playing the Balearic Mike beats in space mix (which i absolutely ADORE) and the two ladies in the car kept asking me wtf i was playing. they said if they were listening to music like this, they expected to be getting a massage. lol new age

jaxon, Friday, 27 June 2008 21:03 (fifteen years ago) link

don't make me come back there and massage you ladies! i'll turn this car around!

Peter Visti's "Tokyo By Night" = the one piece of culture that will live on in the heart and mind of the universe when our planet and our species are long gone.

AKA it's the "Da Funk" of balearic.

Tim F, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 08:37 (fifteen years ago) link

ok listening to that j. gonzalez/todd terje track right now. EPIC.

impudent harlot, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 13:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Timspeak: "the one piece of culture that will live on in the heart and mind of the universe when our planet and our species are long gone" = "worth a listen."

I'm auditioning for Boomkat.

Tim F, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:25 (fifteen years ago) link

In reality "Tokyo By Night" is the second best balearic track of the year after "Whispers".

Tim F, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:26 (fifteen years ago) link

New mix: https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/38583/mikebee%20-%20newmix0608.mp3

falls apart a bit towards the end, but the first 40 minutes are golden. Hope you like. Tracklist when I get a chance to put it down.

max, Thursday, 3 July 2008 21:24 (fifteen years ago) link

no one seems to be talking abt the new lindstrøm? i posted on the thread for it... i think its great. probably fits more under 'balearic' than 'beardo.' "the long way home" sounds like a straight rip of michael shrieve's "transfer station blue." title track is sort of a jarre/e2-e4 thing. great for summer nights.

max, Thursday, 3 July 2008 21:50 (fifteen years ago) link

max, dunno if you heard this or not, but did you hear this Klaus Shønning track i put on my site? sounds totally like "transfer station blue"

Yeah it's great isn't it - so different though from his mixes for 24 Hours and Cosmic Disco (both of which are brilliant). The guy has great range.

Tim F, Monday, 21 July 2008 15:10 (fifteen years ago) link

aside from the obvious highlights on this mix ("tusk"!), i will plump for "desperate for your love", which is gorgeous winsome prog-lite

i might like this even more than the 24 hours mix!

impudent harlot, Monday, 21 July 2008 15:10 (fifteen years ago) link

I wish I had tracklists for those mixes :-(

Tim F, Monday, 21 July 2008 15:14 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, 24 hours tracklist u+k (i can identify about five or six things maybe)

BTW Vahid did you know that Jess of Jess & Crabbe fame is one of the curators of this Permanent Vacation comp:

a link to visti's "balearic monday" mix?
much love for his "Kodex 205"/ "Tokyo By Night" 12" but i also keep playing his "Jolene" to death as well.

balearic monday mix (and tons of other nice-looking mixes i haven't heard) available here

this past weekend i floated in my friend's pool down by the jersey shore while listening to my balearic playlist on ipod dock and it was :D :D :D

impudent harlot, Monday, 21 July 2008 17:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay let's try to do track ids for peter visti's 24 hours mix:

0:00 - ??? ("Captain, I think we're home/one thousand years later, where did I go?)"
5:59 - ???
13:51 - ???
20:03 - LCD Soundsystem - Us & Them (Windsurf's Any Color U Like Mix)
30:16 - Reverso 68 - Piece Together (Part Two) (THIS IS THE BEST SONG EVER BTW - I should hunt down the vinyl for this b/c Todd Terje remix of Part One is also amazing)
37:48 - Santana - Mirage
42:30 - ???
47:02 - ???
52:30 - ???
59:27 - ??? (I'm positive I know this)
1:06:50 -
1:15:34 - Still Going - Still Going Theme

That Fred Deaking Nu-Balearica comp looks like it'd be pretty excellent in this style.

Tim F, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:47 (fifteen years ago) link

13:51 is one of visti's own tracks i think? "heaven is a disco"?

59:27- is this the very disco track? that's an idjut boys edit called "blow me slow"

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 13:58 (fifteen years ago) link

DYING to know what 5:59 is

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 13:58 (fifteen years ago) link
