If I work really hard and get my project number low, I'm given way more work. If I don't do any work, my projects go up anyway. So either way, you're fucked.

lol yeah that sort of pointlessness irks me as well.

LIFT TALK. Especially of the "whatd you do on the weekend?: blarbs on monday mornings. STFUUUUUU

we used to have icebreakers in meetings and my mentee and I have grown sick of them because they're always questions like "where would you go on vacation if money wasn't an issue" and everybody would giggle over the predictable answers.

they got to me last time and I said "Barge to Hell" and dead silence, just the way I wanted it.

I was once asked what I'd want to be if I could be anything. I said "a good person". Lots of "uh" looks.

she has this way of saying in an extra-fake feminine voice "heyyyy! how was your weekend?" and it kills me. i wanna be like "i slept too much, went to the gym three times, decided not to do laundry, looked at the internet, didn't talk to anyone, how about you"

I like talking about weekends and stuff now

my coworkers are good at remembering funny dumb stuff though. the old ones who were like "my kid went to soccer and i mowed the yard" are gone and i get "my two year old disappeared at 7am today and i caught him in the driveway drinking his milk wearing only a diaper and staring at the neighbor's house"

Small talk is like 80% of my job some days, I think I just do it mindlessly now? Tbh tho I would much rather someone launch into a detailed description of something they're actually feeling than just mindless "positivity."

BACK PAIN. I know exactly what caused it (falling out of bed because one of my mother's cats turned out to be sleeping next to me when the alarm went off), but that doesn't make it any easier to manage.

people who don't know how to end a business phone call. ie, spending 3-4 minutes with closing thoughts and never getting to the end.

usually after about 1-2 minutes I just hang up if it's an endless sea of "well ok hope you have a great day, let me know if you have any further questions...oh by the way"

i am also Tombot (Neanderthal), Thursday, 23 March 2017 20:47 (seven years ago) link

I used to get IR at people honking when they drive down alleys. I figured, yeah, we can all hear you honking, but no one can see you or where you're coming from, so why even honk? Especially since honking makes most people rationally angry. But then the other day I heard someone honking down an alley, paused, and may have stopped myself from getting run over by said car emerging from said alley, so maybe it really does work, but only if you're in the right place at the right time, which is to say, about to get run over. Which is the most important time for honking down an alley to be effective, I guess.

coming home to put things into the fridge and finding out that I was a shelf low with the icecream earlier so it didn't go back in the freezer.

The local LIDL being busy restocking shelves mid way through a Sunday so every pallette mover is in the way.

Seeing somebody intentionally stack a trolley tehy had with them out in the exit area where it seems they don't get collected instead of at the end of the conveyor belt. Had to go out and grab one earlier thsi week and had a couple of kids try to walk through teh same conveyor belt alley I was walking out through while I was trying to walk out through it, when they had a lot more space behind them than I did so I would think I had right of way. Bummer.

Weather being good up until Tuesday probably when i need to be in town. & there's a bus strike so I may have to walk.

Taking forever to get shirts done.

Car still turning up and being way too close to the street door. Now found out it's a frequent visitor to next door who I thought would be facing the same problems. Couldn't see how she could get a buggy out with the little space taht was left between the car and teh door or how the boyfriend would be able to get a bike out.
Finally got around to asking and find that people downstairs had asked her to move car over cos she kept bumping their car with her door when she opened it.
I'm having to wiggle out the front door and watch where my feet are going, feel very cramped by its vicinity as I exit.

Spinach not being sold in its traditional form nearly anywhere. Seems people are only into baby leaf stuff. & I prefer the full leaf. Would have thought that was a staple but maybe its thought of as passé by supermarket customers. I'm just getting into cooking it too.

Seems I need a checklist to make sure the things taht i pick up off the supermarket shelf actually get into my take home bag.
That's the 2nd time this week taht something I picked up and put in the trolley hasn't reached my bag after teh checkout. Enough to make you paranoid.
Today I know I was looking at the 2 different types of peppers that were on the shelf, last week I know i found the right type of chocolate. I know I picked them up, & would be pretty sure they got into the trolley. So not sure what happened after that, if they got swept off the conveyor belt or got behind the separator into the next person's stuff. But rather annoying.

Stevolende, Sunday, 26 March 2017 18:48 (seven years ago) link

are they on the receipt?

i have self-scanned stuff and it still hasn't made it home. (i think it fell off the pile of stuff in the bagging area and down the back. you'd hope the scales would notice and complain, unless it was after i'd paid)

koogs, Sunday, 26 March 2017 19:20 (seven years ago) link

I am generally pro the no more free plastic bags thing but it does make the checkout more awkward and items more likely to go missing when you have to cram all your shopping in whatever bag you happen to have with you, e.g. a work rucksack with lots of different sections and full of work items for smaller groceries to hide under.

(Also shop plastic bags used to be perfect for bin bags and it's annoying how much more expensive smaller or not-black bin bags are than the big black bin liners. In a small flat with an open-plan kitchen/living area, you don't really get to build up a whole big sackful of rubbish before it starts to smell, plus we can't use black bags for recycling or they refuse to take it in case it's misplaced landfill.)

a passing spacecadet, Sunday, 26 March 2017 19:47 (seven years ago) link

Further supermarket grumbling: on several occasions I've bought something at the supermarket on the way home from work specifically because it appears to be reduced (on a special offer shelf with big special offer signs underneath) and then got home, looked at the receipt and found that I paid more than I thought the price was.

I assume I probably read the shelf wrong on at least some of those occasions, but it is getting quite annoying. I really need to remember to check the receipt while I'm still in the shop instead of walking a mile home first.

a passing spacecadet, Sunday, 26 March 2017 19:48 (seven years ago) link

the local sainsburys has updated their till software and it's a bit odd. doesn't give you the 'use own bags?' option and it's hard to know how to handle that (maybe it zeroes the bagging area scales when it scans the first item). it also spreads the list of scanned items out on the screen in an arc like a pack of cards, rather than just showing you a readable list.

got flagged for an age-check today as well, for a box of paracetamol...

koogs, Sunday, 26 March 2017 20:38 (seven years ago) link

Does look like I didn't get charged for the chillies today but they were one of the main things i went out to get I think.
& chocolate last week may have been down to something turning up on the outside wrapper of the cheese in my shopping . looked like a tomato seed splat or something but may have caused enough distraction that checkout girl didn't complete my shop. & I hadn't been paying attention to what was and wasn't already processed. Don't remember anything like that today though.

probably only noticed the whatever on the cheese because the checkout girl was making something out of it. Cheese itself was in a thick rind thing. So wiping it off would have sufficed.
Not a big fan of the trolleys that LIDL Is using now instead of shopping baskets, seem to be a lot harder to navigate and may get things like tomato splat in the bottom of them without one being able to notice. These are medium sized plastic baskets on wheels rather than the full size wire things. I was much happier with the initial plastic baskets that LIDL introduced and had been happy enough picking up an empty box from one of the shelves to use as an ersatz basket before they went so bourgeois as to actually start having specifically designated baskets.
