I love the way the density of the sound increases throughout the last half of The Jezebel Spirit, the whole layering of tracks/"rampant texturology" thing

I have to say also that I really don't understand the point of view that The Catherine Wheel is better than this album!

"Regiment" is my favorite track from the album, another killer bass part

still, i like the song, the tom tom club album is gloriously weird

when a friend and I bought a used cassette of the first album in spring '94 it could not have sounded more exotic – we had no idea how to understand what we were listening to.

Can anyone vouch for the second Tom Tom Club album?

I only know the Drifters cover.

with the exception of Pleasure of Love I didn't think it was all that memorable

too bad "As Above, So Below" won't make it here, it's my favorite track on this album.

but the one that (I assume) will make it at the top is iconic so...

I remember seeing SMS in the theater as a kid after wearing out the cassette version and being utterly perplexed and horrified by the Tom Tom Club segment. Still, I love the album version.

Will also say that the SMS version of What A Day That Was is wayyy better than the original.

Thought Lazy by X-Press 2 would've placed, had it fairly high up my ballot.

I didn't submit a ballot, finally decided I couldn't quantify and rank all my favorite tracks, but it's been fun listening to all these today.

Yay it's here. Like dl I'd embarrassingly slept on The Catherine Wheel before - got The Red House on just now and it's pretty great.

i was just about to post about the red house as well. it was my #2.

So is My Life's reputation as this ancestor of hip-hop sampling warranted? Was this thing really a touchstone?

It came out around the same time as Ant Rap so there's a bit of debate about which of these white guys invented hip-hop.
