I like the look of Persian and also of Glasgow Green beer place. Let's go out, Glasgow!

Those of you who don't read the Watercooler thread may or may not know that beanz who posts on ILX is coming up to Glasgow today until Sunday. Drinking may occur at some point.

Shall we drink and watch England v Jamaica on Saturday? C'mon teh reggae boyz!

(2pm kick-off, pick a pub, swapsies optional for those not participating in this form of abject torture and mentalism)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 1 June 2006 11:48 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm trying glasgow in exactly one month, for the first time.

is arriving at glasgow central at 13:49 to get to a c. 15:00 appointment at the gilmorehill centre at glasgow university a viable plan of action, people who know?

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Thursday, 1 June 2006 11:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Westbeer is great. It's absolutley huge. You can sit and watch them making up the beer too! It's never really busy either. The bratwurst is excellent, but the Kaesespaetzle isn't - it's a bit like baby food. Try the Weihenstephaner (wheat beer) if you get the chance.

JohnFoxxsJuno (JohnFoxxsJuno), Thursday, 1 June 2006 11:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, no problem at all. Get out of the station on the right hand side, cross Hope Street, stand at bus stop, get on 44 bus, pay the driver, sit there for a bit, get off 44 bus, voila, you are at Glasgow University. Approx half an hour including hanging out waiting for bus time. Alternatively, get out of station, get a taxi, shell out less than a fiver, bob's yer uncle.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 1 June 2006 11:58 (seventeen years ago) link

sweet as a nut.

taxi it is!

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Thursday, 1 June 2006 12:09 (seventeen years ago) link

enrique, i sincerely hope you'll be sticking around long enough to join us for pints somewhere?

maybe even westbeer. which sounds mighty!

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 1 June 2006 12:11 (seventeen years ago) link

i am staying over, on the saturday.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Thursday, 1 June 2006 12:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Thursday, 1 June 2006 12:24 (seventeen years ago) link

That Persian restaurant is absolutely ace.

scotstvo (scotstvo), Thursday, 1 June 2006 12:27 (seventeen years ago) link

I get paid on 29th June - shall we go Persian then? Otherwise, if we want to go to on a Friday or Saturday it needs to be dopo il calcio now.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Ooh, get you and your fancy Italian! 29th = fine by me.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:46 (seventeen years ago) link

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 1 June 2006 16:09 (seventeen years ago) link

want to go to fazzi's and kokuryo

has anyone been and will you recommend?

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 1 June 2006 16:10 (seventeen years ago) link

kokuryo is poor. fazzi's not been for years but i went through a phase of preferring sarti's before i learned to make that kind of typical italian food much better myself.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 1 June 2006 16:16 (seventeen years ago) link

fazzi's not that great, really.

stet (stet), Thursday, 1 June 2006 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Oi, stet and madchen, stop communicating in teh foreign, you're like Glyn and Imogen.

(I babelfished it, so I know what you are on about now, though I had a kind of idea anyway)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 1 June 2006 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

"dopo il calcio" is a superb phrase. i'm swiping it.

fazzi's is average. nothing to write home about at all.

can't do june 29th - will be on late shifts that week.

saturday 1st is a definite for NRQFAP. i'm kinda triple-booked that weekend but fuck it, i'll work something out.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 1 June 2006 17:02 (seventeen years ago) link

btw, Grimly, Onimo has a lovely picture of some comedy sideburns on his phone which you are going to be challenged to grow this year instead of a silly moustache.

Don't forget Hmmm's gig tomorrow night folks!

Here's what he has to say about it:

I'm playing at the 13th Note this Friday as part of an evening of awesome droney goodness.

The line up is as follows ....

Hotel, hotel
www.myspace.com/hotelhotel
"austin's hotel, hotel...playing quiet waves of noise that are light on form and heavy sleepy wandering..."
"evocative, harrowing, and elegant fare "
"atmospheric, heavy on the violins, wavering between pastoral and apocalyptic"

(Please check the tracks on the myspace, especially 'acceptance'. I reckon they're going to be pretty amazing)

Do you get to pick your own chicken from a tank hen run?

Mooro (Mooro), Friday, 2 June 2006 11:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Pub, people! I probably think it should be Walkabout, as that seems to be the Englishers pub of choice, but would happily countenance O'Henrys and its lovely bottles of wine for a fiver wonky tables under the big screen telly, or, actually, anywhere at all.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 2 June 2006 17:02 (seventeen years ago) link

MacPhabbs is good for teh telly footy, I'm told. Or tennants?

stet (stet), Friday, 2 June 2006 17:35 (seventeen years ago) link

bottles of wine for a fiver?!

jed_ (jed), Friday, 2 June 2006 17:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Auctioneers = bottles of wine for £4.69 - this almost killed me on my leaving night from work. We were there for seven hours!!

this thread should be renamed try eating in glasgow more or something
june 29=SOS (sounds of sweden) #2 at MacSorleys on jamaica street
cute swedish boys+music+alcohol+me
yeah!

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 5 June 2006 12:18 (seventeen years ago) link

This thread should be entitled "no-one goes out in Glasgow (except when food is involved) so stop trying to try it more"!

Cute swedish boys + music + alcohol + dahlin sounds like a top night. You might see me there!

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 5 June 2006 15:48 (seventeen years ago) link

this thread should be retitled "fuck gasgow, it never loads and when it does it take ages".

jed_ (jed), Monday, 5 June 2006 16:16 (seventeen years ago) link

"glasgow: is it really worth it?"

jed_ (jed), Monday, 5 June 2006 16:19 (seventeen years ago) link

"fuck gasgow, it never loads and when it does it take ages".

..and when it does, it's never worth the wait :-(

Will the arrival of a new Glaswegian ILXor warrant a FAP, do you think? Our visitor from the big down south didn't :-(

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 5 June 2006 16:46 (seventeen years ago) link

who was that?

jed_ (jed), Monday, 5 June 2006 16:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Those of you who don't read the Watercooler thread may or may not know that beanz who posts on ILX is coming up to Glasgow today until Sunday. Drinking may occur at some point.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 5 June 2006 16:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Maybe if Beanz or somebody else had started a FAP thread, or if somebody had sent text messages or maybe an email...

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 05:49 (seventeen years ago) link

I posted it here! You replied about two posts later! I suggested going to watch the England game! It all faded out shortly thereafter. (it's not a big deal, really).

We manage to organise aldo-FAPs on here, why not anyone else's?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 06:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Anyway, Monday, there's a World Cup Pub Quiz on in Russells. (part of West End Festival, details here). Ally C to thread, etc.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 07:23 (seventeen years ago) link

i think i shall be avoiding pubs for the duration of that football thing.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 07:48 (seventeen years ago) link
