Magazine cover--can't find the original photo--but this would be high on my own list:

^ this tbh

Tracer Hand, Friday, 17 December 2021 23:49 (two years ago) link

Why do you guys say that? One thing I know about him is this.

https://www.mlb.com/news/ted-williams-hall-of-fame-speech-honored-negro-league-players

(I guess his speech is marginally undermined by his words about Yawkey, but he was hardly alone there.)

clemenza, Friday, 17 December 2021 23:58 (two years ago) link

i guess it's just recency bias (as in, i recently learned about it), but he seems to have really gone out of his way to fuck gil hodges over by refusing to let roy campanella (one of the HOF voters that year for the veteran's committee, I think) vote via phone, even though campanella was very ill and died a couple months later. campanella would have been the 12th and clinching vote.

Karl Malone, Saturday, 18 December 2021 16:38 (two years ago) link

Been reading up--didn't know that. I agree with him that Hodges was a weak candidate, but that does seem petty (not to mention not letting someone in a wheelchair vote by phone). Must be some decades-long grudge.

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 4 February 2022 05:47 (two years ago) link

intrigued by the evolutionary process of ears

andrew siciliano is certainly a throwback

mookieproof, Friday, 4 February 2022 06:54 (two years ago) link

rube was a nickname for a country bumpkin but marquard was a city boy, and people called him that because he reminded them of another lefty pitcher, rube waddell
