cute!!!

Amazing!

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 31 May 2017 22:35 (six years ago) link

obviously it was a losing performance but i was honestly very into nina's morose bunny rendition of "cool for the summer." in a different context it would have been a really interesting spin on that song? like maybe she's playing the other half of the bi tryst and isn't ready for it to end. she was really serving like that sad gaze w/ the batting eyelashes.

DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD

(Okay maybe too harsh but *finally*.)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 3 June 2017 04:02 (six years ago) link

Also, surely that was the first time ever it was a male-sung song in the lip sync.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 3 June 2017 04:02 (six years ago) link

Native American outfit predictably on the nose & fucking terrible BYE BITCH

Peppermint lip-syncing - it's like she becomes a human ray of sunshine! I love watching her

I lolled so hard at Sasha's "Sexy Unicorn", it was so her = completely covered, not sexy, complete with medieval tapestry referent ❤️

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 3 June 2017 07:01 (six years ago) link

I thought Peppermint's personality carried her through this week, because the silhouettes she wore for Village People and rainbow flag were identical. Her lipsync was so good, though. Neither of them really knew the words, but she knew the song. I liked her gawky walk bit.

trishyb, Saturday, 3 June 2017 10:14 (six years ago) link

Untucked this time was definitely a good portrait of someone trying to front, getting an emotional boost and then it allllll goes south.

(Also, 8 years trying for the show and that was your A-game?)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 3 June 2017 13:30 (six years ago) link

Alexis's VO in Untucked, walking miserably back to the workroom after her elimination: "I'm my own toughest critic."

Girl, wha?

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Saturday, 3 June 2017 15:13 (six years ago) link

In packing, she seemed somewhere between not too angry, not too crushed, and not too both feet on the ground.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Saturday, 3 June 2017 15:21 (six years ago) link

Her mom and step dad are A+, at least.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 3 June 2017 15:30 (six years ago) link

So now it's a top 4 where...I'm fine with all of them? I *kinda* assume Peppermint won't make the final cut but I don't know; Trinity still irritates me a touch but she has skills. The other two, obvious slam dunks.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 3 June 2017 15:32 (six years ago) link

Yeah. It's a replay of last year where I like all of the top 4, and the least polished one with the kindest personality is the one that doesn't quite make it.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Saturday, 3 June 2017 16:26 (six years ago) link

saw Shea perform & co-host a drag race viewing party last night

she said something about how she was terrified to meet Ru bc of what she had heard from season 7 queens but that Ru was really kind and friendly towards her. she said she thinks maybe Ru just hated the s7 queens lol

and obv she slayed the house down performing. she walked past me to get on stage & her perfume smelled amazing

ps Jasmine Masters also performed! she was good too though she didnt seem to care as much about the actual lipsync at times

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 3 June 2017 16:46 (six years ago) link

Reminds me that I enjoyed these articles I found last night -- first, Shea and Sasha, from articles well before they were announced for season 9, so it's a nicely different perspective

http://design.newcity.com/2016/04/06/shea-coulee-her-life-in-drag/

http://forward.com/culture/art/318495/sasha-velours-talmud-of-drag/

And this one on Trinity, after the season had started, but a lot of background info

http://www.al.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2017/03/trinity_taylor_rupauls_drag_ra.html

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 3 June 2017 16:50 (six years ago) link

oh and: witnessed an amazing drag queen. Chevelle Boom Boom Brooks (found out after she is Jiggly's drag mom & Kennedy Davenport's drag sister - their drag mom is Kelexis)

She looked like millie jackson in a chaka khan wig. Literally threw herself around & headbanged to a medley of live Beyonce including Formation in this incredible sequined cape. She tore the mfing place DOWN holy fuck she was good.

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 3 June 2017 17:03 (six years ago) link

ugh fuckin Alexis... she wasn't even that bad compared to some of the demons we've had in previous seasons, but the sense of like indignant and deluded entitlement really made me sad and uncomf, like "no, you don't understand, I worked hard so therefore this is good" and it's like bitch👏you👏have👏no👏taste👏

he not like the banana (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 3 June 2017 18:02 (six years ago) link

also acc to http://www.alextheatre.org/event/world-of-wonder-presents-rupauls-drag-race-s9-grand-finale the finale is taping next week but acc to VH1's tv listings, next week is another regular episode, so I guess we have YET ANOTHER season of horrible pre-taped faux-reaction from the winner, ugh, this is the worst worst finale setup of any reality competition show ever

he not like the banana (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 3 June 2017 18:09 (six years ago) link

Alexis deluded entitlement otm

Sasha & Shea are her biggest competition?
The skirt is like what you would buy at Saks after the runway show?
This will be the first of many trophies?
Maybe she'll wear that dress in All-Stars????

Like I understand putting on a brave face but GURL

Also what "many trophies"? Golf?

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 3 June 2017 18:34 (six years ago) link

her taste is so BASIC but she thinks she's fuckin Linda Evangelista

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 3 June 2017 18:35 (six years ago) link

I could not stop loling @ Sasha cracking up in Untucked

he not like the banana (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 3 June 2017 18:40 (six years ago) link

Poor Alexis. She's so unlikable. At least Shannel was always well put together (even if she wasn't my style).

LeRooLeRoo, Saturday, 3 June 2017 23:37 (six years ago) link

Also, surely that was the first time ever it was a male-sung song in the lip sync.

Last year they did Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real" which was great! There was also Fred Schneider's part in "Love Shack" this season, though I wish I could forget it. And of course, they've done numerous RuPaul songs.

LeRooLeRoo, Saturday, 3 June 2017 23:51 (six years ago) link

I haven't watched Project Runway in a while so maybe I'm out of touch with what's high fashion, but I thought that Sasha's cowboy look was very dowdy.

Alexis had skills, and I don't think she got to the top 5 just because the season needed a villain, but I really dislike the sort of rehearsed staginess that she brought to everything except the final moments of Untucked. Also, I love how fast she backtracked on her Native American look:
AM: "I was going for more of a ready-to-wear look."
S: "But the judges wanted high fashion."
AM: "Oh I mean the skirt was ready-to-wear, my bustier is totally couture."
And you kind of new the moment she said that she was drawn to those stones that she'd cook up something that bland. (Also also her makeup was terrible. And the hair, ugh.)

It's a shame that Peppermint said she wanted to avoid lipsyncing for her life, because every time she does she just slays me. She's a lipsync assassin.

I think I have more patience for Trinity than everyone else here (that posterior is a work of art), but it's obvious why people can find her aggravating.

Do the eeeL Roll! (Leee), Sunday, 4 June 2017 03:49 (six years ago) link

i like Trinity. She reminds me of Kennedy Davenport, the deeeeeep pageant mindset, they compete with intensity, like it's their job to win. She listens to critique & learns from every mistake & aims a little bit higher each time... but she also doesnt take anyone down with her if she does poorly, unlike Alexis who cant fathom her own failures, however minute

I admire Trinity. That girl dont mess around.

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 4 June 2017 05:13 (six years ago) link

Alexis's hair was awful. Looked like a doll wig.

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 4 June 2017 05:13 (six years ago) link

yeah trinity whom i hated at first has won me over with her fierceness. she's a bit like alyssa but with less charisma and uniqueness? i guess she's an 'nt.

clouds, Sunday, 4 June 2017 22:28 (six years ago) link

yeah alyssa comparison is good. category is: "hella pageant queen"

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 4 June 2017 22:37 (six years ago) link

i think in the context of this season i've really enjoyed trinity's professionalism. so many amateurs in this year's crop but she knows what she's doing. i like that ru called her an old school showgirl in explaining why she did well in the crew makeover challenge.

J0rdan S., Monday, 5 June 2017 02:49 (six years ago) link

otm

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 5 June 2017 04:03 (six years ago) link

i think that's been the biggest change is the amount of super young queens who have maybe more look but less seriousness

those early seasons it was all the hungry experienced queens that made it exciting...now it's almost like we're watching to see which beautiful confident young queen is going to forget to look both ways while crossing the street

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 5 June 2017 04:07 (six years ago) link

That would be Valentina.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Monday, 5 June 2017 12:41 (six years ago) link

this cracked me up

At dinner-@TrinityTheTuck: what are these burrito things y'all?
Me: that's an egg roll@TrinityTheTuck: *takes a bite and spits it out*

— Kim Chi (@KimChi_Chic) June 6, 2017

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 18:47 (six years ago) link

Man just cast the sitcom already.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 6 June 2017 18:48 (six years ago) link

she seriously didn't know what egg rolls were???

clouds, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 13:03 (six years ago) link

Well she's from Birmingham and lives in Florida and (various regional/culinary stereotypes later) and that's why we're so elevated out here in San Francisco. *eats vegan hummus/black bean 'wrap' what is this burrito you speak of*

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 13:24 (six years ago) link

the shitty little town in FL i grew up in had like 5 chinese takeout places, thai place and sushi bars...

clouds, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 13:34 (six years ago) link

Yeah, when I was on Siesta Key, I had egg rolls flying at me from every angle.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 7 June 2017 13:36 (six years ago) link

Carefully phrased.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 13:39 (six years ago) link

lol

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 7 June 2017 22:09 (six years ago) link

maybe she's more of a country kinda florida rather than city florida

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 7 June 2017 22:11 (six years ago) link

no, the ignorant kinda florida

still, she aight

clouds, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 22:57 (six years ago) link

A comparison we can all get behind

http://fusion.kinja.com/bear-witness-to-katy-perrys-purposeful-flop-1795958969

If pop music was a season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Katy Perry would be the show girl in a season of couture queens. She’s the Alexis Michelle, hellbent on serving high fashion but then walking out in a loud turquoise-encrusted corset. Katy Perry doesn’t do nuanced, so don’t make her. Let the woman be loud and “Roar” or whatever, but for the love of god, just let her have some fun.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 June 2017 18:43 (six years ago) link

Alexis Michelle isn't a show girl, IMO? Since she doesn't really do the elaborate, literally huge over-the-top looks -- she's more Broadway than Vegas.

Do the eeeL Roll! (Leee), Friday, 9 June 2017 20:12 (six years ago) link

KNEW IT KNEW IT KNEW IT

I just had this hunch all episode.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 June 2017 04:01 (six years ago) link

Yeah, that was a very non-shocking shocker.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Saturday, 10 June 2017 13:23 (six years ago) link

I wonder what it would mean for the show going forward, though. One-off, or new pattern?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 June 2017 13:26 (six years ago) link

Now I'm sensing a double win between Shea-Sasha.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Saturday, 10 June 2017 13:33 (six years ago) link

Yeah, REALLY feeling it's headed that direction.
