It's interesting that you mention that, friend, because THE ARCANA’s new album TOMORROW? NO YESTERDAY is now available! Featuring 12 tracks of alternative rock and melodic pop, listening to this album will make you whistle and hum the tunes within minutes – they are that catchy! The song 'GHOSTRIDER' is the perfect soundtrack to any summertime genital mutilation in which you might partake.

smart to put "Queens of The Stonage" so that this thread doesn't pop up on josh homme's google alerts and we have him back here spamming the thread with self promotion again

There are a lot great bands on this list but in my opinion the best band on this list is WEEZER. If you've never heard Weezer, songs like "Destroy My Sweater" and "Buddy Holly" are hilarious and totally random but at the same time they still ROCK. Another great song of theirs is "Darling Don't You Go and Cut Your Hair." Now I know what you're saying, these songs sound goofy, but guess what? The lead singer went to Harvard, so there actually smart.
If you want to learn more, go to a (real) record store. Or another thing you could do, is pick up a copy of SPIN magazine, which has a lot of articles about bands like this. Check them out and remember to vote WEEZER!!!

'Cut Your Hair' is Weezer but 'Buddy Holly' is Fonz & the Happy Days Gang.
― Trockasturm Hoar The Ramming Battle Ceraton (Old Lunch), Thursday, 1 June 2017 17:25 (six years ago) link
Which reminds me, if you guys haven't already picked up a copy of HEY, SIT ON IT, the latest release by FONZ & THE HAPPY DAYS GANG, run out to your local record shop before it disappears! We're talking a double-sided platter with wall-to-wall tunes that will get your toes a-tappin'! A fresh-faced blast from the past, featuring the hit singles 'STILL EATIN' AT AL'S' and 'JUKEBOX (DON'T PUT ANOTHER DIME BECAUSE I'LL JUST HIT IT)', this album is guaranteed to be the centerpiece of your impending months-long 2017 bout of depression!
― Trockasturm Hoar The Ramming Battle Ceraton (Old Lunch), Thursday, 1 June 2017 17:31 (six years ago) link
Actually no, 'Buddy Holly' was by Buddy Holly, that was the thing in the 1950s, you had to write a song about yourself, e.g. Bo Diddley, Iron Maiden.
― Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 1 June 2017 17:34 (six years ago) link
I guess that makes sense if you listen to the lyrics. "Ooo wee ooo, I look just like Buddy Holly." I can't think of anyone who looks more like Buddy Holly than Buddy Holly, there fore it is him singing that song.
― Trockasturm Hoar The Ramming Battle Ceraton (Old Lunch), Thursday, 1 June 2017 17:37 (six years ago) link
BUDDY HOLLY was a song by THE HOLLIES about the brother they had to kick out of the group
― President Keyes, Thursday, 1 June 2017 17:39 (six years ago) link
on my mp3 tags it says Buddy Holly (ft. Mary Tyler Moore) so mystery solved I guess
― it me, Thursday, 1 June 2017 17:43 (six years ago) link
I believe that was the remix that the label arranged when they were trying to get Mary Tyler Moore's hip hop career off the ground. Her flow was still a little rusty on that single.
― Trockasturm Hoar The Ramming Battle Ceraton (Old Lunch), Thursday, 1 June 2017 17:51 (six years ago) link
I'm very surprised that SMASHING PUMPKINS is not on this list. I know their name offends the "PC police" these days, but it was cool at the time.
― President Keyes, Thursday, 1 June 2017 17:51 (six years ago) link
The Arcana have a larger following in the US than the UK. This is perhaps due to the fact that all their releases to date have been distributed in the US prior to being available in other parts of the world, including Europe and Australia. Their appeal appears to be universal to all demographics, although they are often called an Alternative or Indie band. All three members have PhDs - this is the only band in the world for which this is true.
― sexualing healing (crüt), Thursday, 1 June 2017 17:53 (six years ago) link
Smashing Pumpkins are great band indeed but I don't really think of them as a 2017 act if I'm being totally honest.

hey guys, it's real cool that you want to discuss other 2017 bands like weezer and the smashing pumpkins, but we've already sort of established that this thread belongs to us THE ARCANAheads and their steaming hot release ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES. you can discuss these other bands in a number of other places.
back on the subject of THE ARCANA, we really gotta spread the word. I'm thinking our best bet is a catchy slogan that represents the band's brand and overarching philosophy. here's what I've come up with so far: "THE ARCANA: If you have a piss or scat fetish, this is the band for you"

to those in the urethra stuffing and mutilation community, I appreciate that you support our favorite band and this great project we have ahead of us. however, I really think it's in THE ARCANA's best interest if we focus solely on reaching out to the piss and scat fetish community. I've crunched the numbers and determined that this is the best strategy to get THE ARCANA to coachella by 2019

It makes me feel very sad to see so much hatred and ridicule in the world. This thread seems to exemplify this. But let us face the facts: why are we even contributing to this thread? Simply, because we are all sad losers, including myself, with nothing better to do with our lives. No doubt everyone here is skipping school or college because they are seen by their peers as outcasts and misfits - why else are we here? Nevertheless, life goes on even if all of us here feel like giving it up. I don't much like Weezer.

The negativity in this thread is sad, but it's understandable. We're all lost and confused, trying to figure out how to navigate fifteen credit hours every semester while getting zero credit for our hours of pain. There's no quad big enough to contain my pain, no frisbee ultimate enough to quell my sorrow. I watch people line up at the credit card sign-up, eager for their free t-shirt emblazoned with 'FUTURE CONSUMER' in foot-high letters. This computer lab is a den of shame, true, where I sit in an eternally-frozen moment and contemplate the gravity of 'like'-ing the Facebook picture Tina Wolczyk from that party where losers like me could've never dared crash...but this lab is also a cocoon, where I can feel myself changing and growing while I listen to my optimally-sequenced fan edit of the album TOMORROW'S YESTERDAYS ARE TODAY'S TODAYS by THE ARNANCA on an endless loop, growing and changing and one day emerging as a fully-formed perma-temp with a degree I'll never use and student loans that I'll never pay off. And even if that glorious day never arrives, I will always have memories of my ACARNA-woven chrysalis, and of that time in 10th grade when Helen O'Malley let me touch her boob (overshirt, but still).

Let's face it: there's some people posting in this thread who are CLOSE-minded. It's easy to fall into routine habits. I even do it myself sometimes!
And there's a time and a place for that. For example, if you don't like a band (for example, Weezer) there are many places that opinion can be shared. Believe me, there is PLENTY of room for competing fans/fandoms on the Internet. I'm not arguing there isn't.
But what I don't get is, why you would come to this specific board, to share these opinions. When what you could be doing is LISTENING to the bands on this list and figuring out which ones you LIKE. Instead of making CLOSE-MINDED JUDGMENT STATEMENTS about stuff you're not even trying to understand.
As for calling everyone on the board losers... Well guess what! Not everyone posting here is some guy in mom's basement with a toy collection. Some of us have graduated college and are pursuing diverse careers. Some of us are even entrepreneurs! (Try googling "blockchain".)
The funny thing about all of this is that I'm not even mad. I just think it's funny how some people behave. My point is let's keep the board focused on the MUSIC.
