Man just cast the sitcom already.

she seriously didn't know what egg rolls were???

clouds, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 13:03 (six years ago) link

Well she's from Birmingham and lives in Florida and (various regional/culinary stereotypes later) and that's why we're so elevated out here in San Francisco. *eats vegan hummus/black bean 'wrap' what is this burrito you speak of*

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 13:24 (six years ago) link

the shitty little town in FL i grew up in had like 5 chinese takeout places, thai place and sushi bars...

clouds, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 13:34 (six years ago) link

Yeah, when I was on Siesta Key, I had egg rolls flying at me from every angle.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 7 June 2017 13:36 (six years ago) link

Carefully phrased.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 13:39 (six years ago) link

A comparison we can all get behind

http://fusion.kinja.com/bear-witness-to-katy-perrys-purposeful-flop-1795958969

If pop music was a season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Katy Perry would be the show girl in a season of couture queens. She’s the Alexis Michelle, hellbent on serving high fashion but then walking out in a loud turquoise-encrusted corset. Katy Perry doesn’t do nuanced, so don’t make her. Let the woman be loud and “Roar” or whatever, but for the love of god, just let her have some fun.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 June 2017 18:43 (six years ago) link

Alexis Michelle isn't a show girl, IMO? Since she doesn't really do the elaborate, literally huge over-the-top looks -- she's more Broadway than Vegas.

KNEW IT KNEW IT KNEW IT

I just had this hunch all episode.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 June 2017 04:01 (six years ago) link

Yeah, that was a very non-shocking shocker.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Saturday, 10 June 2017 13:23 (six years ago) link

I wonder what it would mean for the show going forward, though. One-off, or new pattern?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 June 2017 13:26 (six years ago) link

Now I'm sensing a double win between Shea-Sasha.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Saturday, 10 June 2017 13:33 (six years ago) link

Yeah, REALLY feeling it's headed that direction.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 June 2017 13:41 (six years ago) link

It's pretty obvious now that Valentina's crash and burn was the last real shock moment of the season, but also the one that determined the season would end on a calmer parity note instead of a fight to the finish. After her departure, it was a question of when Nina and Alexis would be out, or rather, which would be first.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 June 2017 13:44 (six years ago) link

I was wondering all week if this would happen. Have they done this before?

he not like the banana (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 10 June 2017 14:15 (six years ago) link

I don't think so.

I know Sasha is fab in a lot of ways, but I think her looks are very tame. In fact, I think all their looks were very tame this week. I wonder if they get a budget from the show to spend on their looks, and if that budget has been cut?

trishyb, Saturday, 10 June 2017 14:48 (six years ago) link

Untucked was fun. Also, food! (Seriously, isn't the story that the craft services are a little sparse for the show?)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 June 2017 20:17 (six years ago) link

God almighty!

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Saturday, 10 June 2017 23:32 (six years ago) link

ok that untucked was great.

now that Alexis isnt sucking all the air out pf the room I could finally appreciate just how rad these four queens are.

really happy with the result, cant wait to see what shakes out

sidebar: holy fuck Shea slayed the house down with her rhyme, good god that was great. and with the baseball bat? in love.

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 11 June 2017 00:47 (six years ago) link

Yeah if there had been a designated winner for that round, Shea had it lock stock and barrel.

And how come Bjork can't DJ for me after I see an episode, I tell ya.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 11 June 2017 00:58 (six years ago) link

Ru - How ya like them apples?
Peppermint - I love em girl
Shea- Ooh they real sweet

<3 <3

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 11 June 2017 01:03 (six years ago) link

Haha yes to that!

Also having been a Peppermint fan the moment she walked through the door to kick off the whole thing -- and she really did feel like the season narrator -- her ending up at the end is really great.

So is there a recap episode next week or do we just wait on the 23rd?

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 11 June 2017 01:07 (six years ago) link

reunion next week no?

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 11 June 2017 01:16 (six years ago) link

Grand finale is the 23rd per the graphic at the end of Untucked.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 11 June 2017 01:46 (six years ago) link

hmm

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 11 June 2017 01:48 (six years ago) link

oh well

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 11 June 2017 01:48 (six years ago) link

They're such a crew. I would 100% watch a magazine show presented by these ladies.

trishyb, Sunday, 11 June 2017 08:56 (six years ago) link

Poor Trinity! Gave up shotgun just so they could get that final shot in the van!

Even though we've got four girls, I have to say that the crown is Shea's to lose. /duh

In fact, I think all their looks were very tame this week. I wonder if they get a budget from the show to spend on their looks, and if that budget has been cut?

At least from seasons past, the queens bring in their own wardrobe (e.g. Willam, who has a sugar daddy, coming in with high-end stuff).

so I guess we have YET ANOTHER season of horrible pre-taped faux-reaction from the winner, ugh, this is the worst worst finale setup of any reality competition show ever

I think that the alternative -- revealing the winner on the main stage -- is a little underwhelming -- the setting is too small and familiar for such a grand announcement, the celebration so much more low-key compared to a huge theater filled with fans. A little bit of confetti dropped from above doesn't make up for the difference in scale.

I do miss the claws-out reunion though -- having that part in front of a live audience has made it tamer (although the higher profile of the show and its impact on getting gigs or getting social media hate also undoubtedly affects how much bitterness and candor can now come through).

idk you'd think the budget would go UP when switching from logo to vh1.. I do find it odd that the looks mostly seem to be BYO. the show must be a huge success because they have no expenses!

officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 12 June 2017 17:01 (six years ago) link

I thought Trinity's final look was fantastic.

LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 12 June 2017 17:14 (six years ago) link

yeah Trinity looked incredible. The hair, makeup, THE DRESS...so much perfection

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 12 June 2017 17:39 (six years ago) link

yeah Im glad trinity decided to go out with guns blazing if thats what it was going down to.

I like the top 4 but I do feel that theyre all missing some part of the complete puzzle..

officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 12 June 2017 17:42 (six years ago) link

in the finale they form Voltron and become ULTIMATE DRAG QUEEN

Peppermint's makeup was beautiful, too.

Leee Media Naranja (Leee), Monday, 12 June 2017 19:31 (six years ago) link

I just learned that Lucian Piane had some kinda mystery illness & then ate a truckload of edibles and went cuckoo
... and that's why he's not on the show this season O_o

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 12 June 2017 21:12 (six years ago) link

That's...different.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 12 June 2017 21:15 (six years ago) link

Unfortunately I've had some friends lose their minds and ruin their lives with crystal meth and his behavior last year was definitely similar to that.

LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 12 June 2017 21:55 (six years ago) link

it's still ongoing w/ him... his instagram is uh... concerning

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 13 June 2017 14:49 (six years ago) link

i think there's something deeper and more serious going on there than meth or edibles

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 13 June 2017 14:49 (six years ago) link

not that todrick hall is any more tolerable onscreen, what a humorless privileged twat

clouds, Wednesday, 14 June 2017 13:32 (six years ago) link

LOL, there isn't a single recurring judge or coach on this show who doesn't inspire catcalls from at least 3 or 4 gays in my life ... Ross first and foremost.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 14 June 2017 13:45 (six years ago) link

I thought Todrick was much better as a coach than as a judge. He was completely useless on All Stars 2. I really enjoy Ross as a judge though. He's funny and his comments are always constructive and on point.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 14 June 2017 20:26 (six years ago) link

I think Ross is useful primarily as an antidote to Michelle in sniffing out positives when the overall picture might be negative. Constructive tho? His time in the workroom for the roast challenge involved him saying, for about five minutes, "be funny." Thanks, Ross.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 14 June 2017 20:32 (six years ago) link

those who can't, teach

clouds, Wednesday, 14 June 2017 20:33 (six years ago) link

I don't want to be too harsh on him tho. Most of the slams I've heard directly pertaining to Ross are femme shaming, straight up.
