I loved Perks of Being a Wallflower, although still baffled that those kids wouldn't know who was singing "'Heroes.'"

Yeah, I wrote about that. It's so egregious, I've come to find it more funny than annoying, and them not knowing is used really well as a dramatic device, if you can buy it. And again, I could maybe accept that they don't know "Heroes"--highly unlikely, but possible. Not knowing "Heroes" while you are swapping tapes with the Shaggs and Nick Drake on there, that I find literally impossible.

O.J. is a (slightly) above-avg ESPN TV series.

I didn't realize Decasia was 2002. Put it on your list or go home.

On my 2002 list.

I feel like LEGO Batman might have been a better choice if they had to have a token cartoon that makes people cry.
The LEGO Movie itself is probably better than a few of these choices though.

El Tomboto, Sunday, 18 June 2017 00:25 (six years ago) link

nah the token "cartoon that made people cry" was Up in 2009. just that first sequence. I think after that Pixar thought they had to do it with every movie. I never saw Toy Story 3 bc the reactions were just ridiculous - "oh my god, i couldn't stop crying, it was so sad and wistful and melancholic!" God, sounds horrible.

The results of this poll should go on the ILX homepage as a warning to newcomers.

Not to mention four votes for Summer Hours and two for an Agnes Varda flick.

i wonder how many other Yang films the typical Yi Yi voter has seen -- you know, the ones you have to see twice to comprehend what's going on

I wonder how many other Yang films were made in this century? Oh, none? Is it none? Oh, OK then.

I never said otherwise, but you're probably lightheaded from your most recent Showgirls viewing.

If by lightheaded you mean giddy, exhilarated, reveling in the pleasure that movies can give you if you enjoy either life or movies? Sure. Yeah.

Anne of the Thousand Gays (Eric H.), Wednesday, 12 July 2017 15:10 (six years ago) link

Or cocktails.
