it might be Goodman, it's the same register as one of the payday loan companies' ads, Easy or something? this bro-ish, sub-The Dude matey-ness that infuriates precisely because of its deployment in selling bullshit I think

Spandau/Speedcore advert for Virgin trains. Corbyn should just say that nationalisation will stop these adverts and he's guaranteed a landslide.

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 22 June 2017 15:44 (six years ago) link

Feel like this should maybe be on an alt-right thread of some kind but couldn't think of which one. Rubicon's marketing team has decided to go in at a very strange angle... apparently their fruit juices came about because... Mr Water is a cuck?

Huh, I only saw the ad on TV a couple of days ago. It really is a very strange advert, I was imagining it was pro-alt-right and their obsession with cucks, rather than being "feminist propaganda" in favour of being adulterous.

not a "worst" advert but this one really fucking weirded me out, not least given i think it's the onion knight narrating:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgASxPh-xqU

i mean i get the value of water safety but it just seems a bizarre level of intensity. also the image at the end looks like all the people are dead.

Barclays have got a fucking cheek trying to advise people on anti-fraud measures given their role in the LIBOR scandal. But then there has been lots of po-faced quasi-contrition from the high street banks lately.

OK,you mentioned it..

Because back then, our Alice was like that, damn good and beyond 'cute' with it, but this ad doesn't work because you can see the CGI type manipulation and faking.

Yeah, bugs me a bit. I wouldn't go the share on YouTube way, little Alice would have loved it but present day Al does thank me for not sharing on 'You've been framed' etc..

was Howard in the halifax adverts? he pops up as some kind of meta presence in those insurance commercials.

which reminds me, in those insurance commercials the bloke is called 'captain obvious' but he seems to have lost that part of his persona and is now just some kind of figurehead.

That is the advert I had just witnessed before posting ITT. At least it made me get off my arse and back to work I suppose. Working from home tends to prolong lunch breaks.

Seriously considering closing my Nationwide account

Took me a minute to realize this was a UK reference. Here in America, Nationwide is an insurance company with horrible ads featuring country singer Brad Paisley.

grawlix (unperson), Friday, 11 August 2017 21:36 (six years ago) link

Here it's a building society, which I think is roughly equivalent to a credit union? so supposedly more ethical than a bank. Their ad campaign for the last few months (maybe longer?) has been a series of just fucking awful poems read by smug bastards and it just won't go away.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 11 August 2017 21:47 (six years ago) link

Those US Nationwide ads seem like there is a producer, off-camera, holding the singer's kid at gunpoint (or maybe just a big bag of cash). "Keep trying. We will stay here until you make me believe that Nationwide is on my side."
