After dicking around with mixing programs (more specifically the demo version off DSS DJ - which is prone to skipping (how can anyone ever be expected to use this live if it skips)
I actually recorded something. I'm no dj so yeah, that says it. It was only after that I realised I put in 17 track in under an hour, hmmmn.

Thanks Tracer! I apparently just can't seem to master my own tracks right, Venus really stands out like a sore thumb compared to everything else in quality of sound.

i can't believe it's been six years since i made this. anyway, here's a short 20 minute mix of some stuff i really liked in 2000.

pépé bradock - "wonderbra"

I actually meant the Joakim one, Fantomes from 2003. I also heard great things about his forthcoming Monsters and Silly songs EP, although I haven't heard it yet.

is it just me or does "doppelwhipper" have a totally confusing return from a breakdown that's not on the one OR the three.... it just kind of bangs back in, totally randomly, in a way i can NEVER keep track of when mixing. (wouldn't surprise, i guess, as i believe ananda recorded the song live in the studio, possibly a one-take deal). or maybe it's just me.

I noticed this too. Lots of old detroit tracks and especially old (and even recent!) advent tracks do this too. Those guys recorded a lot of tracks live in the studio without editing them to be regular later, too.

Aaaaanyway Jena your mix is doing it for me here at work 100%. Thanks! If ILX ever goes away this thread needs to be preserved for posterity.

tylero (tylero), Thursday, 26 October 2006 19:22 (seventeen years ago) link

it's not the edit on the 'doppelwhipper', it's just the way the track is structured. it doesn't lose the beat but just sounds a little odd. i always try to avoid mixing around that part of the track. lots of those old detroit tracks have really bad edits that do lose the beat as they edited them or put in reverse fills from splicing tape and weren't 100% accurate with their cuts. i used to love it when a dj played a track like 'stardancer' or 'seawolf' and obviously didn''t know the track as well as they should and then totalled fluffed their mix. scahdenfreude!

hello folks. ross of love here. this is a dj mix i made the other night. i intended it as a "straight-up" dance mix, whatever that means. turned out not entirely straight, but plenty dancy, somewhat trancey, and primarily synth-focused. it's about 39 minutes long. let me know what you think!

christina aguilera - ain't no other man
lindstrøm - i feel space
the similou - all this love
yellow magic orchestra - computer game
the roots - boom!
justin timberlake (feat. t.i.) - my love
les rhythmes digitales - music makes you lose control
missy elliott (feat. ciara and fatman scoop) - lose control
the faint - the conductor (thin white duke remix)
!!! - take ecstasy with me
the magnetic fields - fido, your leash is too long
