best books that are music lists?

There's a minimum of actual writing in this--voters attached blurbs to their lists--but this had a big influence on me coming out when it did, the late '70s, when such a concept was still new.

yeah I've read that book over several times. The albums and singles lists in the back were very useful too.

This one is a list of artists, but nested in that is a guide to their works, so in that way is a "music" list. Certainly in that music is embedded in the word musician...Free Jazz and Free Improvisation: An Encyclopedia: [2 volumes]: Todd S. Jenkins. Available in a lot of university reference libraries. One copy left in paper on Amazon. Other than that, exorbitant pricing, because Publisher, I guarantee you Todd Jenkins does not see one whit.
