i guess this is obvious, but was this a ploy to get kompromat on trump jr and whoever else he pulled into it? possibly a double whammy if they ended up provided real damaging material on clinton to the trump campaign, but regardless, obtaining evidence of collusion at the same time?

This definitely seems odd when judged by the usual standards one might apply to average human beings but I think this might be another one of those cases where someone with the last name of Trump is doing something (or a series of somethings) profoundly stupid simply because that person actually is that profoundly stupid. It's like trying to interpret the resultant string of characters on the screen after your pet iguana walks across your keyboard.

Emin is Azeri and not particularly famous In Russia but just happens to be married to the daughter of the President of Azerbaijan - where Trump is accused of being in on dubious property deals.
