Huntsman probably sensed the winds of change and likes to suck up to power and as always there are no good republicans

ok looking at his wikipedia it he came out FOR Trump in April 2016 lol. maybe it had something to do with the Huntsman fam's long standing hatred of the Romney clan? he then retracted his support after Access Hollywood tape. which, lol again.

all it does is reaffirm my impression that Jon Huntsman is a fucking goofball.

re: this - https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2017/07/18/House-GOP-aims-to-shut-down-federal-election-agency/9741500381143

The EAC was created by a pretty dumb piece of band-aid legislation (HAVA 2002) and has basically no power whatsoever. The commissioners are all nice well-meaning people but the agency as a whole has been ineffectual and plagued with partisanship. This does not excuse the House GOP for being stupid and hateful as usual, or excuse their puppeteers in the NASS.org membership from using this opportunity to eliminate what they see as a nuisance (nb: the majority of state election officials cannot do their job, at all, whether it's their fault or not is not the point because it's usually because there's no money in elections - so they all basically hate the EAC because it doesn't bring any money, it just creates noise for them - anyway, that's my take)

So a silver lining of this is maybe if and when a party that actually wants to govern gets back in power, we can get something less useless than HAVA passed and make for an EAC that can administer block grants for actually good voting systems, not readily hacked insecure touchscreens, and establish mandatory, not voluntary, standards for elections, e.g. if you take this money you have to spend it on vegetables, not candy.

scroll through here and you can probably smell why the EAC is on the House hit list

clare.malone: I think the people whose seats were in danger are more OK after this bill dies, right?

natesilver: That’s my thinking, Clare. The bill was SOOOOOOOOOOOO unpopular that I think that unpopularity outweighs all other considerations. Cruz could be a weird exception, though. I don’t think he came out of this looking good. And I think he has both more primary problems and more general election problems than people acknowledge.

oh please oh please

McConnell announced Tuesday night that the vote to begin the Obamacare debate β€” which will fail β€” will occur next week, at Trump’s request. Trump is set to met with Senate Republicans on Wednesday.

October 15, 2017

President Trump defiantly declared he would "let America fail" today in response to Congress's failure to pass a last-ditch bill which would raise the debt ceiling. The United States' debt will exceed the ceiling at midnight tonight, leaving the US with no alternative but to default on its debts.

The last-ditch bill to raise the debt ceiling was widely unpopular, particularly its provisions outlawing Planned Parenthood, which the American Law Association, in an unusual step, denounced as "clearly unconstitutional", and the last-minute provision inserted by Ted Cruz (R-TX) which would have repealed all taxes on the nation's wealthiest 1%.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blamed the Democrats for the failure to pass a debt ceiling package. The minority Democrats proposed an alternative bill, which would have raised the debt ceiling with no strings attached, but Majority Leader McConnell refused to take their bill under consideration.

America's debt default is widely expected to lead to economic ruin for the beleaguered nation and economic chaos across the globe. An opinion poll taken today, just after President Trump's statements, saw his approval rating dip slightly to 35%.

I should say, my sources tell me their sources tell me that everyone in this administration will one day die, with a better than zero chance it will be by hanging or firing squad or something. You know, for espionage. (My source, by the way, is Anthony Kiedis, who has been in touch with Agents Moby and Tom Arnold - was it wrong to write all that and unmask them? My bad!).

It's terrifying that we live in a country where you can be executed for treason without being charged or tried beforehand. But that is unquestionably the country in which we live.
