if meeting with representatives of an adversarial nation who interfered in an election that i ended up winning is a crime, then i don't want to be innocent!

Wasn't that a big hit for Luther Ingram?

Oh. Wow. Jared Kushner apparently failed to disclosed billion in loans on federal forms.

Thank god the WSJ found Jare-Bear's billion dollar debts or I would have totally forgotten about the billions of dollars I owe to several creditors!

Billion dollar debts are super easy to forget about, apparently

in the realm of the hyper rich, that seems like a rounding error. i mean, look at his life:

Ivanka Trump "got $2.5 million in salary and severance when she resigned from the Trump Organization in January. She received $787,500 as an advance for her book, 'Women Who Work.' ... The young couple resigned from a wide array of corporate positions: Kushner stepped down from 266 such posts, while Trump resigned from 292 positions."

imagine quitting 266 jobs, and then you go to the white house and your fuckfaced father in law puts you in charge of peace in the middle east. they're on a different planet

i know this is kind of silly, but...you know how apparently activist groups in England were doing prep work so that if/when Trump makes a surprise visit, they can launch their protests at a moment's notice?

why can't we plan a giant protest for the saturday after trump inevitably fires Mueller? we all know it's coming, and it should be recognized as an indicator of democracy in crisis. if moveon or whatever sent out an en email to ask for my participation in the March After Mueller (MAM, that's right, MAM is the acronym), i would break my solemn oath to never join another email list and sign up, and i think a lot of other people would, too. instead, Mueller will get fired and then we'll all be on Twitter, pissed off as hell. we'll take the battle to facebook as well, and maybe even text our significant others to make sure they saw the same NYT phone notification with the news, before breathlessly awaiting the Trump interview on Hannity and throwing popcorn at the screen. man, fuck all that. everyone knows this is coming, the left should be preparing a massive counter-action.

They're probably just ceremonial board seats

Depending on the size of the company, board seats are often compensated, although when your net worth is north of $500 million, this usually amounts to chump change (although you still cash the checks).

El Tomboto, Saturday, 22 July 2017 20:55 (six years ago) link

I think what you identify as his gullibility is more a selective and situational willful blindness. iow, he knows this Scaramucci story is bullshit, but it is bullshit that makes him more comfortable about doing what he wants to do, so he pretends it is the honest truth. Like most people who are good at salesmanship, he can shape his beliefs to fit the needs of the moment and convince himself first, in order to convince others.

Did Kushner just have the amendments to his disclosure signed off on by the new Government Ethics chief? Who has just been appointed bypassing the next person in line for the job.
I was hoping that what I heard yesterday might juyst sink him. It's about time.
But obviously Ethics is not an issue for the current WH or the old Ethics chief might still be in place.

Am i reading this right that this is nwo a fait accompli "The previously unreported assets were included in updated disclosure reports certified by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics on Thursday as part of the “ordinary review process,” according to Kushner’s filing."
https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/kushner-adds-at-least-10m-in-assets-to-revised-disclosure/2017/07/21/972ddf56-6e71-11e7-abbc-a53480672286_story.html?tid=ss_fb-bottom&utm_term=.ea95ea93e3b3

in which case are there any checks and balances further up that would penalise him for non declaration.

apparently the resigning Government Ethics Chief said that people should watch out for the WH ignoring the normal line of sucession for his role because they might try to replace him with somebody far more lenient towards them. I'm not sure how concrete a role that position is in terms of final say, if it is a guide or one that actually has the power to penalise or if that penalising lies elsewhere. Or if the WH just has plain sailing since it can ignore anything along the lines of expecting it to conform to norms unless somebody is willing to actually take it to task. In which case it will probably just pardon itself and say get with the new program or something. Disgusting really.

Stevolende, Sunday, 23 July 2017 08:39 (six years ago) link

Bitter laugh. As with so many things, every potential mechanism for penalizing these mousefuckers is controlled by them.

The solution is electoral defeat.

My favorite Trump threat is when he threatens to do something with information he may or may not have at some unspecified later date. it's just the worst bluff. Shit like "Mueller is totally corrupt and totally crooked with his conflicts of interest, he's destroying the country! When the time is right, we'll share what we know! You'll shit your pants!"

Yeah, OK there, buddy.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 23 July 2017 13:51 (six years ago) link

By the way, in the fire and brimstone department, what happens when the inevitable goes down and Mueller is fired, there's a replay (maybe) of the Saturday night massacre and others go with him, and ... nothing happens? Congress just shakes its head with disappointment and moves on with its shitty agenda. Is there any reason to really believe this can't happen?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 23 July 2017 13:54 (six years ago) link

There is no reason to believe it can't happen.

Hilarious bit with Scaramucci this morning. He tells Jake Tapper that someone told him yesterday that if the Russians had really wanted to hack the election, no one ever would have known--they're good enough that they wouldn't have left traces. Tapper expresses some incredulity about this vague, suspicious source, and Scaramucci basically says "Okay, okay--it was the president."
