if you want to be more effective, don't stop at voting. give time and/or money to the best candidate available. if you are as ccrazy as jjusten, you can run for office yourself.

A is for (Aimless), Monday, 24 July 2017 17:47 (six years ago) link

vote for the best dem available in the primary. give your vote to any dem in the general

^ what I meant (but feel free to misunderstand in whatever way you like)

Schumer generally outlined a more progressive agenda. Nitpicking the tax credits for job training thing feels like a way for some people to stay on brand after Dems have done what they've asked them to do.

haven't seen Schumer's whole thing, did he back single payer or nah

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 24 July 2017 17:57 (six years ago) link

I kind of doubt it but there's clearly momentum in the party behind it when you have both aspiring lefty prez candidates (Warren, Gillibrand, etc.) trumpeting it and "Blue Dog" centrists like Heitkamp saying it's a "good idea". Things are definitely trending that way.

Οὖτις, Monday, 24 July 2017 18:03 (six years ago) link

yesterday he said single payer is "on the table for Democatats," fwiw.

There was a NYT Mag profile of Schumer back in Feb or March -- you know, right after he stopped voting for a string of Yam's Cabinet appointees -- that made it fairly clear he 'got with the program' only after the grassroots read him the riot act.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 24 July 2017 18:23 (six years ago) link

as any activist can tell you, trust is not a good strategy, but you can work better with a politician who needs the votes of the bloc you represent.

That bill is disconcerting, I hope some public pressure forces reconsideration. I'm not sure support or non-support of it tells us anything about health care policy though.

Drain the Swamp should be changed to Drain the Sewer - it's actually much worse than anyone ever thought, and it begins with the Fake News!

So funny to watch Trump openly mock his own party: "Repeal and replace, repeal and replace..." (You'd have to be watching him right now to catch the tone there.) Straight out of the Republican debates.

if a rugged 80 year-old veteran job creator can overcome brain cancer and get back to work, the moral of the story is: tens of millions of americans don't deserve healthcare
