if they give mccain a standing ovation as he votes in favor of fucking over his country

totally waiting for this disgraceful shit to happen

(•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 18:57 (six years ago) link

i'm sure schumer will deliver a labored retort that absolutely no one will listen to

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 18:57 (six years ago) link

Murkowski voted no as well, so now they have to make a bill that can get 50 out of 50. This isn't over yet.

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:00 (six years ago) link

standing o fuck this shit

(•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:00 (six years ago) link

it isn't over yet because the amendment process is going to be hairy as fuck but it def tilts in favor of something passing

xp

"win" this vote or "lose" republicans are gaming the healthcare of millions of poor and desperate americans. somehow the current political discourse renders that both a matter of fact and a banal observation

reggie (qualmsley), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:02 (six years ago) link

actually i guess pence would be the deciding vote here

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:02 (six years ago) link

are they all bussing down to the white house to crush bud light in celebration

officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:03 (six years ago) link

I would expect debate/amendment process to drag on for days, no?

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:04 (six years ago) link

i sure hope not. these tax cuts will spur growth ASAP :)

reggie (qualmsley), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:04 (six years ago) link

The idea is to get it done by thursday

Frederik B, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:05 (six years ago) link

that seems ambitious

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:06 (six years ago) link

what if pence voted no and then the rapture happened and then it was revealed that pence was the antichrist?

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:07 (six years ago) link

the gamble is to get some magical combo of amendments that will appease both Lee/Cruz/Paul and Collins/Murkowski/Capito/Portman and man idk if they couldn't work it out before why would they all be able to do it now? I assume Schumer & co are busily drafting amendments that might attract votes from the "moderates" while sinking any prospective bill w the hard right wing.

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:07 (six years ago) link

the primary crisis in the US, according to our "conservative" overlords, is the egregious taxation subjecting the wealthy. the idea is to get this done yesterday

reggie (qualmsley), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:08 (six years ago) link

glad the mccain can rush out of the hospital bed in solidarity with those that will be kicked out of theirs .

(•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:09 (six years ago) link

I can't imagine how disgusting cable news must be now, with CNN using a countdown for McCain's appearance or some shit.

details don't matter really when tax cuts are at stake

at least he won't be remembered for palin now

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:10 (six years ago) link

the "clean repeal" bill is going to fail, which leaves the "skinny repeal" - which also doesn't pass muster w Paul and Graham(!) and some others presumably, so what does that leave? some kind of frankenstein bill

qualmsley tax cuts aren't in any version currently, unless you consider the individual/employer mandate repeal a tax cut (yes we all get your broader point, which is true)

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:10 (six years ago) link

I thought the cuts to medicaid were supposed to pay for top brakcet tax cuts?

Treeship, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:13 (six years ago) link

I think that gotten taken out of McConnell's BRCA bill/version, iirc?

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:14 (six years ago) link

and that bill never had enough votes to pass, as enough GOP "moderates" came out against it

xp

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:14 (six years ago) link

im (optimistically? naively?) with shakey - actual final bill seems nearly as dubious as it did before. it's definitely more likely. but this whole thing could also just be cover that another batch of senators demanded from mcconnell: give us the chance to say we Voted To End Obamacare or we'll get primaried on it. then the "moderates" go back to voting no because the actual bill is apocalyptic for them back home, but they say "well I thought it was important to have the debate, see if we could solve the problems and we just couldn't quite get there.". idk im probably grasping at straws. p.s. fuck these cynical monsters.

﴿→ ☺ (Doctor Casino), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:15 (six years ago) link

I don't feel optimistic! I think something will pass and it will suck. what it is exactly is p impossible to say at this point.

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:16 (six years ago) link

ie none of the three options in their current forms have 50+ committed votes

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:16 (six years ago) link

Idk. I hate what a zombie this thing is. We keep being told it's dead.

Treeship, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:16 (six years ago) link

mccain is giving an inspirational speech to kick things off

"WE'RE GETTING NOTHING DONE, MY FRIENDS, WE'RE GETTING NOTHING DONE. ... all we've really done this year is confirm neil gorsuch to the supreme court"

(and even that was total bullshit)

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:17 (six years ago) link

Really?

xp

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:18 (six years ago) link

With Collins and Murkowski saying no in advance I don't see how anything can pass. Not any medicaid cut, in any way. Some sort of skinny repeal.

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:20 (six years ago) link

you know what, mccain is right. now is the time for compromise and incremental progress. come on democrats, change your hearts and start working with mcconnell to kill a few more people!

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 19:21 (six years ago) link

FWIW, hard right movement anti-ACA types are just raging right now. They see the whole thing as a cynical sellout from the get-go as much as, say, we do. And they're trashing McCain just as much.
