McCain wants to be remembered as the Maverick.

McCain just admitted he doesn't think the bill will pass anyway

FWIW, hard right movement anti-ACA types are just raging right now. They see the whole thing as a cynical sellout from the get-go as much as, say, we do. And they're trashing McCain just as much.

Meanwhile. Dag, V.D. Hanson is not liking the "poke Sessions with a stick" stuff.

I lolled a bit at

He was a force for immigration enforcement and an advocate of the ignored muscular working classes long before Trump

The taut, glistening muscles of the ignored working classes. Forgotten men who work deep in the earth, with well-worn tools.

The usual weirdness and laughable claims in this Trump press conference. Good one: Trump said right from the start how difficult health care would be, something he illustrated with a series of undulating hand motions ("You go a little bit right, you lose three votes on the left"). Thought for sure I remember him saying it would be the easiest thing in the world.

Press conference over. Took all of four or five questions.

Meanwhile

http://www.thedailybeast.com/anthony-scaramuccis-purge-begins-and-its-kill-the-first-guy-you-see-time-at-white-house

Still, among the staffers who could be in Scaramucci’s crosshairs, there is some bewilderment as to why they are being targeted when there are much bigger fish to fry.
“If you’re concerned about leaks that are actually doing the most harm to this [White House], leaks from [mid-level] members of the press and comms team aren’t your problem,” one aide vented. “You’d have a better shot with looking at staff that has people whose names rhyme with ‘Rannon’ or ‘Meibus’ or ‘Wushner’ or ‘Mellyanne’ or ‘Tone,’ [and so on].”

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 20:11 (six years ago) link

it's weird with mccain. it's not like he's steve jobs, an awful asshole but extremely charismatic. he's a horrible man irl by all accounts. but he's really done a number on the press corps.

And he sold his company for a tremendous amount of money. At the time especially -- this was a long time ago -- sold his company for a tremendous amount of money. And he went out and bought a big yacht, and he had a very interesting life. I won’t go any more than that because you’re Boy Scouts, so I’m not going to tell you what he did.

AUDIENCE: Booo --

TRUMP: Should I tell you? Should I tell you?

AUDIENCE: Yes!

TRUMP: Oh, you’re Boy Scouts, but you know life. You know life. So -- look at you. Who would think this is the Boy Scouts, right?

Re: Treeship's quote: I love how AUDIENCE: is just one character in this dialogue.

My parentverse is full of outraged people saying they'll never donate to the Scouts again etc., etc. Meanwhile I'm sure on the right you're seeing "Damn, maybe I should give Scouting a second look even though they're soft on the ghey."

I'm no BSAstan but if Democrats take their children, participation, and money out of it (while RedHatters sign up their boys in droves) it becomes ever more Trump Youthy.

(•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 22:13 (six years ago) link

Because there is no winning against Trump. This country is toast. It's time to break up the States and end the failed experiment. There can be no recovery at this point. It's too far gone.

brotherlovesdub, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 23:33 (six years ago) link

Maybe!

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 23:36 (six years ago) link

I doubt Manafort flipped or if he did it would manifest itself this way.. he probably said he would comply with their doc and interview requests so a subpoena forcing him to comply isn't necessary.

officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 23:37 (six years ago) link

wouldn't you issue a subpoena in the first place only if he wouldn't comply? You give them a chance to comply first, then you issue a subpoena if they don't. If they are complying, no need to ever issue a subpoena.
