Οὖτις, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:38 (six years ago) link

re: heller, what a dolt, why wouldn't he just vote no now that it's already dead

Many men scream death (voodoo chili), Friday, 28 July 2017 05:39 (six years ago) link

McCain really screwed Heller.

lol all the responses to that are some variation of "heller screwed heller"

Aw, Mitch so sad.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:40 (six years ago) link

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Friday, 28 July 2017 05:41 (six years ago) link

I have such a boner right now at this speech

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:41 (six years ago) link

I think heller was screwed no matter what. republicans turn on their own and don't give them breathing room for strategic votes.

iatee, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:42 (six years ago) link

alright fuck this, now he's butthurt, I'ma sleep

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:43 (six years ago) link

This is a sad day for everyone who wanted more people to die

ein Sexmonster (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 28 July 2017 05:44 (six years ago) link

he basically just played Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino dint he

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:45 (six years ago) link

So now he wants to move right on to the defense budget tomorrow, the one with wall money?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:47 (six years ago) link

would bet they didn't want this bill going to the House and gave McCain the "No" due to his circumstances.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:47 (six years ago) link

Why didn't McCain just stay home and recuperate? All this drama was completely pointless.

Moodles, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:48 (six years ago) link

idk what Trump is up to right now but p sure it resembles this

No he's gonna b all "wait what does that vote mean...?" Our guy has no idea about parliamentary procedure

ein Sexmonster (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 28 July 2017 05:52 (six years ago) link

Surely I'll be greeted in the morning with fresh tweets trashing the 3 senators.

Moodles, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:55 (six years ago) link

"hell yeah I saw it, we got 49 'yes' votes, that has to be good. I mean, there's what, 60 senators?....there's 100? so 100 - 49 is....41, right? so we won!...51? I don't follow. what do you mean "carry", what is carrying? ok ok let's say I take you at your word that it's 51 - we still won, right?"

yeah not looking at the misogynist comments about Murkowski/Collins that are soon to come

McCain, w/e

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:56 (six years ago) link

Was wondering what Heller had to lose by going consistently "nay" on this repeal stuff. He would have one of the easiest newsroom "moderate-R" talking head positions in the world and still be getting paid.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:58 (six years ago) link

oh now McConnell is pretending he wants to hear Democrat ideas, how cuet

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 July 2017 05:59 (six years ago) link

The Republican guy on CNN surely has it right--this was one big middle-finger from McCain to Trump (which he couldn't really do if he'd stayed home, not in the same way).

I was hoping he'd ask for the floor and then give the Blade Runner speech

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 July 2017 06:02 (six years ago) link

tho what could he say really

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 July 2017 06:07 (six years ago) link

Yeah it's a hypothetical that only gets answered in the moment and that moment is a coup

ein Sexmonster (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 28 July 2017 06:12 (six years ago) link

the mcconnell speech was incredible

ein Sexmonster (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 28 July 2017 06:18 (six years ago) link

Some goon on MSNBC just pronounced McCain the current "Lion of the Senate"

That's some tired ass old lion.

in the UK this would probably trigger a no-confidence vote and new elections, wouldn't it? a failure of this magnitude? the party of government not being able to pass legislation?

I'm pretty sure the US constitution mandates that there should be at least one non-functional branch at all times.

Did the final Russia / Iran / NK sanctions bill that the Senate voted on take out the bits that the EU was considering retaliatory sanctions over or was it passed as-is?

did you guys ever see that "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" where Peter Lorre bets Steve McQueen over a series of cigarette-lighter ignitions, and if Lorre wins he can chop off Steve's thumb? That's where we are, only it's our head.

I think this must be written by Roald Dahl since it turns up in the first series of his Tales of the Unexpected as Man From The South.
That's the version of the story I'm most familiar with , where the twist end has the would-be amputator's wife appear say she already owns everything and show the stumps on her hand where her fingers used to be.
I think McQueen character was supposed to win a beautiful car or similar.
