but i'm guessing we'll see probably half a dozen or so more attempts to do some kind of repeal/replace and that chances are good that one of them will end up succeeding eventually.

nope. sequestration period ends Sept 1 iirc. After that they need 60 votes and no fucking way are the Senate Dems gonna cooperate at this point, look at how well Schumer's held the caucus together up to now, not even Heitkamp or Manchin have wavered.

I mean, one of these guys is going to turn on Trump at some point, and drop this facade of respect about what an honor it was blah blah blah

Mrs. Mooch had the right idea.

I've read a couple of tentative Carter and Trump analogies. They don't work in part because I can't imagine (a) Hamilton Jordan bragging about Jody Powell sucking his own cock (b) Carter bragging about vagina grabbing.

Sessions got us into independent counsel mess. Personal friends of mine being subpoenaed. Word is I'm gonna get one. Major screw up. https://t.co/x7nD9LMe1c

so now we're not even gonna have anybody in charge of Homeland Security? great

it's Giuliani Time

ice cream social justice (Dr Morbius), Friday, 28 July 2017 21:18 (six years ago) link

Chiefs of staff have congressional relations and understand power, hence why so many of them have been either Washington insider types (Leon Panetta, James Baker) or governors (John Sununu, Sherman Adams). John Kelly is a general and has never worked with Congress. It's a pick a moron would pick, which, well, yeah.

Οὖτις otm, yes please go to war against the people who would be the jury in you impeachment trial. (Note: not that I belive it will happen that way, it just seems like he's burning some bridges in ways that may prove, in retrospect, to have been ill-considered.)

okapi paste (Ye Mad Puffin), Friday, 28 July 2017 21:54 (six years ago) link

so when do they announce lewandowski being nominated for homeland security

officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Friday, 28 July 2017 21:55 (six years ago) link

if he goes all the way around the bend and fires Sessions, Rosenstein and then Mueller and antagonizes thumbs his nose at Congress (esp the Senate), essentially daring them to impeach him - yeah I think they will turn on him. That's a lot of ifs, but things can (obviously) move quickly.

the other likely scenario is he starts a war and the GOP cowers and falls in line behind him.

Οὖτις, Friday, 28 July 2017 21:57 (six years ago) link

I don't think he's hot on fighting with Russia or Iran, but North Korea is the clear and obvious target now. All he has to do is work himself up into a bloodthirsty lather to justify the sacrifice of millions of Asian lives.

Οὖτις, Friday, 28 July 2017 21:58 (six years ago) link

now that it's clear he's not going to get anything done domestically, his foreign policy options have to look increasingly attractive to his bloated ego. it's the one area where he can act unilaterally and with likely positive consequences for his approval ratings.

Οὖτις, Friday, 28 July 2017 21:59 (six years ago) link

Trump and Lavar Ball are similar ppl

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 July 2017 22:00 (six years ago) link

I can already here the lame GOP defenses: "We can't impeach him - no matter what he's done - we're in the middle of a war for the very existence of the United States" etc.

Trump has been telegraphing tearing up the Iran nuclear deal in September.. its not gonna start a war or anything but he clearly has made up his mind already. He lost his shit at Mattis, et al because they didn't even give him the option to tear it up a couple weeks ago. The fix is in.

Part of me wants to believe this, but these d-holes have an ounce of self-respect between them, so I don't really think humiliation is enough to trigger that outcome on its own. They probably think it IS an honor to be fired from White House Apprentice by the Don himself! I don't know why anyone who wasn't a true believer with a thousand yard gaze would even be hanging around at this point, waiting to be the next rando with his head on this psycho's chopping block.
