Axios won't be printing that Reince resigned yesterday until we have definitive proof. He & Bannon were scheming until the last moment.

"I think any observer -- including one that did not speak English and knew nothing about politics and came from another planet and solar system -- could, after observing the situation in the White House, realize the White House is failing. And when the White House is failing, you can't replace the president," said one informal White House adviser, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share a candid assessment.

lol newt

It's the reverse of baseball, where you fire the manager because you can't fiew the team.

At what stage does trump use his uselessness thus far as proof that Washington is blocking MAGA and move to uglier direct calls to action

I think that Kelly, McMaster and Mattis all getting elevated to this degree might represent the weirdest silent coup in the history of the concept

that news blurb about cernovich and related news about charles johnson getting a subpoena is kind of a big deal.. if those dudes were involved in anything suspect they'd flip asap. they can't afford to defend themselves against the full power of the federal government or whatever the equivalent you'd call mueller's crew.

I don't think we're ever going to know the real reason Trump pushed Priebus out. This is the most confusing move Donald has made so far, imo. Priebus is kissing the guy's boots on the way out which just adds to the confusion.

Reince was the establishment. They made a deal with him for support in the election, but they never wanted him around. In re him being Ryan's best connection to the White House, I can't do the advanced math required to figure out if that's a good thing or a bad one.

obvious why Reince is out, Trump did things the GOP way and got nothing done, so now he's gonna go the Trump way and do even less

that's kinda what i think, too. now that he's purging the gop establishment and not helping them pass legislation, at what point do a few gop members start considering impeachment?

at what point do a few gop members start considering impeachment?

A few (or more) are already secretly thinking about it, but it's extremely tricky for them. Trump won a lot of primaries and has a strong following among the sorts of deplorable voters Republicans have courted and made into a big part of their base.

The Congressional Rs can't afford to alienate 30% of their party base just because they hate Trump. They'll need a strong pretext of malfeasance or misconduct, and even then they will have to sell it hard to the base, who like Trump better than them. That strong pretext is what they hope Mueller will give them in five or six months, when he reports on his findings.

i figure that, but it's still a hard bargain. that senate map doesn't look great for democrats trying to gain seats. i'd say heller in nevada is vulnerable, but who else? flake? so reasonable expectation is maybe take the house and even up in the senate with pence as tiebreaker still. you still need 67 senators to convict. assuming all dems are in, i'm doubting that 17 gop senators will turn on him unless there's dire electoral ramifications.

Trump's new fixation: legislative reform!

Republican Senate must get rid of 60 vote NOW! It is killing the R Party, allows 8 Dems to control country. 200 Bills sit in Senate. A JOKE!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 29, 2017

The very outdated filibuster rule must go. Budget reconciliation is killing R's in Senate. Mitch M, go to 51 Votes NOW and WIN. IT'S TIME!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 29, 2017

Republicans in the Senate will NEVER win if they don't go to a 51 vote majority NOW. They look like fools and are just wasting time......

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 29, 2017

....8 Dems totally control the U.S. Senate. Many great Republican bills will never pass, like Kate's Law and complete Healthcare. Get smart!

wonder if he realizes that the 60 vote threshold is the only thing that put the ACA's original passage in any peril to begin with.

Is there any reason McConnell doesn't bring healthcare up again next week? Isn't the recess still cancelled? Why wouldn't he keep trying? Give McCain a little more.

He didn't change his vote to NO and time's running out to pass anything under reconciliation. Sept. 1 is the deadline.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 29 July 2017 13:04 (six years ago) link

Why do they need more than one day, given the protocols they've already shown they're happy to adopt?

(But I don't understand the issue about McConnell changing to no)

Guayaquil (eephus!), Saturday, 29 July 2017 13:08 (six years ago) link

The vote on tabling the procedure, right? He could have said no and debate might have continued, I think. As it is, if he wants to keep pushing health care he has to start the process all over again.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 29 July 2017 13:13 (six years ago) link

I think. Anyway, he's welcome to keep trying, but it's literally been taking up all of his time, and as Alfred pointed out, there are other pressing deadlines. After they come back from recess (I assume they're not still cutting recess?) they almost immediately have to jump into budget stuff, which if anything could be as contentious as healthcare, depending on how dickish people like Cruz and Paul get.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 29 July 2017 13:15 (six years ago) link

(But I don't understand the issue about McConnell changing to no)

― Guayaquil (eephus!),

It's a traditional Senate trick to bring a bill up for debate again. Harry Reid used it often too.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 29 July 2017 13:18 (six years ago) link

I mean look how long it took them to get THIS bill to the table. the House signed their bill on May 4th, it took almost 3 months for the Senate to actually get a bill to a vote and it failed. this isn't "change two lines, insert one, pass!"

Neanderthal, Saturday, 29 July 2017 13:34 (six years ago) link

I did not realize this at first but Blobfish cant bring up healthcare again under reconciliation, because it was already debated and voted on. McCain screwed him on a procedural technicality.

I've seen a few posts saying that Reddit Senate analysis is bunk, so I'd need more concrete info.

What I'm also seeing is stuff like this:
