but it's because i can't afford to buy a new system right now. or, i can, but it would really be nagl for to purchase a new gaming console until i start working regularly again. the good news is that by the time that happens, the nintendo switch 5 will be out and i'll probably be able to snag a secondhand OG switch for $50 or so!

i've tried with sonic games in the past but they could never stick. from the way everyone talks about them, i'd love them in theory: elegantly speeding through expertly designed levels in one supersonic, unbroken flow. but i've never been able to achieve this in practice. compare that to the super mario bros games where you actually can run through them at full speed, following your intuition jumping over objects, landing on a goomba, getting launched in the air, etc

can someone provide a youtube of an elegant sonic level run through?

So I bought Sonic Mania and it's neat but it's also like playing a video game from a parallel dimension. Every platformer since Mario plays kinda like Mario, but Sonic's gravity and momentum and jumps are all their own weird thing.

been playing sonic rush on ds to keep switch desires at bay, but it's not working

when sonic levels are designed well, they dont break your flow in the fast bits which are more about determining which of the branching paths you end up on, or sometimes just for thrills - then they slow you down for the obstacles

Incorrect - Crash plays differently, which causes some confusion when you first meet Mario's skittery-ass sliding.

lol i have never experienced this while playing Sonic. always thought of Sonic levels as interconnected rollercoasters w platforming in between. the games are stylish as heck though, which is the main reason to play. Sonic really nailed that cyberpunk neon aesthetic.

Mario's sliding has nothing on a recently stopped Sonic. trying to walk on a nearly flat piece of land that leads to a ramp is visual-kinetic torture.

sonic is that platforming series i always wanted to love more than i did. Sonic 2 was the peak for me, so i'm pretty interested in Mania

I have played some Sonic Mania and I've decided Sonic is pretty fun, at least this one is.

I'm actually pretty stoked for Mario+Rabbids next week. Xcom but it's Mario! Skill trees!

We just inherited an XBox One, and I'm sad at how lame all of the games seem compared to what's on the Switch. I think I'm just a diehard Nintendo guy.

The idea of playing games on my computer, at my desk, is so unpleasant to me at this point, tho I see your point.

How are people getting on with Arms this far past release? Nintendo's support for it seems pretty good- about on par with Splatoon 2- but I'm a little worried about its longevity. I just tried the Test Punch today (free this weekend, at least in NA) and the motion controls are amazingly fun and intuitive, but I'm really hoping it has a long tail as something more than just the Switch's Wii Sports Resort or whatever...

I've been grinding ranked since release, since I can't play Splatoon, and it's fun! There may be fewer people on the queue than one might like for matchmaking purposes but it's hard to tell. Anyway I like it a lot. I only play on the pro controller but if you like the motion controls you have some techniques that aren't really possible with the analog stick.

hey I got one of these finally! so far I love it to death; I got MK8 (I had the WiiU version but I am 100% willing to double dip at full price to be able to play it on the go and with a decent battle mode), Sonic Mania (rules a lot), Zelda (rules a LOT, although I'm looking ), and BoI+ (rules a lot, although buying it for the third time for that much money was not a thing which I appreciated) and I've been playing the ARMS free trial since I got home from work.

it's a gooseneck tablet mount which happens to fit the Switch perfectly, which means you can mount your Switch in handheld mode over your face and play with the pro controller while lying in bed. so, yeah.
