Chee Shimizu's live mix on this Music From Memory compilation is really good, I always think of the label primarily in terms of the ambient stuff they release so to hear a proper mix that you can actually dance to is fun.
a lot of the mixes the guys behind it do are more uptempo.
― Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 11 September 2017 13:05 (six years ago) link
LG you're always listening to good mixes of this stuff, point me towards something similarly uptempo and brilliant you've had on recently please
― boxedjoy, Monday, 11 September 2017 20:00 (six years ago) link
I made a mix this weekend using mostly vinyl but some digital files. https://www.mixcloud.com/biznotic/expand-and-expand/

enjoyed that mix brotherlovesdub, that Oktoberklubben track really reminds me of Studio.
― boxedjoy, Tuesday, 12 September 2017 11:41 (six years ago) link
Yeah, The Oktoberklubben is so good. I'm tempted to buy another copy before the 300 pressed are all gone.
― brotherlovesdub, Tuesday, 12 September 2017 15:35 (six years ago) link
Thanks for listening! It's not a great mix technically, levels are off due to going back and forth between vinyl and digital, but the songs are good.
― brotherlovesdub, Tuesday, 12 September 2017 15:36 (six years ago) link
@ boxedjoy - sure - this one is from last year but prob one of my favourite mixes in recent years. jamie tiller is one of the music from memory guys: https://soundcloud.com/dkmntl/orpheu-the-wizard-jamie-tiller-at-lente-kabinet-festival-28052016
there are prob more where that came from. maybe the trujillo mix from brilliant corners too, tho it's a little less obscure: https://www.mixcloud.com/BrilliantCorners/trujillos-cosmic-caribe-300517/
― Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 13 September 2017 09:54 (six years ago) link
there are so many amazing mixes of free music that fit this thread - brilliant corners' mixcloud alone is full of these huge mixes.
― Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 13 September 2017 09:56 (six years ago) link
Spiritland's Mixcloud feed is similarly packed with down-tempo goodness: https://www.mixcloud.com/Spiritland/
― André Ryu (Neil S), Wednesday, 13 September 2017 10:05 (six years ago) link
Listening to Chris Coco from Spiritland now. It's quite good, and especially nice considering he doesn't talk. I regularly listen to Melodica, but his voice is even more annoying than Mary Ann Hobbes.

i like this comp a lot but it's just not the same as what he plays when you see him. i guess it's good he keeps this divide but still.

This came up on shuffle on the way to work this morning but I have no idea where I got it from. Sounds like something Harvey might play so possibly that.
Great track though

Didn't realise there was a new The Swan and The Lake album released earlier this year. Bit more minimal and new agey in parts but still very, very good

more balearic rock than straight dance music, but i'm seeing Yumi Zouma today in austin and i've been thinking about their balearic revival influences a lot recently (they did an homage to air france's last single as one of their first releases). so, so good, and their releases keep showing a bunch of growth.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoDoTZFt-fo
― austinb, Saturday, 13 January 2018 21:24 (six years ago) link
(their label Cascine takes a lot of influence from Sincerely, Yours and the Gothenberg scene in general, so I end up following a bunch of their releases)
― austinb, Saturday, 13 January 2018 21:26 (six years ago) link
yes! I think I've mentioned Cascine before but they are basically keeping the Air France/Studio/Tough Alliance axis of 2007 balearic pop alive. How were YZ live? I am in a WhatsApp group they shared on their Facebook which the band members and tour manager are members of and it's been so frustrating hearing about this tour and them not actually coming to Scotland.
