Some kind of pre-paid SIM swapping ninjitsu allowed me to get it for $150 flat! Is that normal? Seems like a really good deal.

The iPhone X puts a 6/7/8 Plus size screen in a phone that's almost as small as the non-Plus 6/7/8, but what I really want (and would be willing to pay big bucks for) is a regular 6/7/8 size screen in a phone the size of a SE, but they're not going to make one.

very very otm. i would LOVE an iphone 6 sized screen in a slightly smaller body. marques brownlee's video review mentions how hard it is to reach across the x's screen with one hand despite the phone fitting in one hand.

it feels like we're on the tipping point of bigger screens right across the board, but it's been a slow revolution probably due to production limitations. maybe this is another reason i'm not rushing to replace a three year old phone for the first time ever — the future has been solidly telegraphed by the mi mix, the galaxy s8, the essential phone and now the iphone x. we already know how dated the iphone 8 will look a year from now.

it's incredibly weird seeing so many iphone 8 models in abundant supply 12 hours after preorders opened. has that ever happened before? are those people waiting for the iphone x, or have they just decided to wait another year for more interesting iphones? it'll be interesting to see.

At this point I never want to own anything 7 or later in my life but it will be hard to switch away from Apple when my 6s is finally obsolete. Maybe by then wireless headphones won't sound like ass.

iPhone X probably the first actually ugly phone they've made, but maybe seeing it in person is a differently story. And who gives af about those features.

Jon, It was at Best Buy and I already use AT&T. AT&T prepaid phones are on sale for $150 after taxes, so you buy one and just pop in the sim from your old phone. Guessing it only works with AT&T

I stopped using touch ID to unlock my phone because of the whole police thing (even though it's not like I get stopped by police). However I did like using it for bank apps and the app store. I'm not going to fucking hold the phone up to my face like a chump every time I need to check my account balance. Fuck that. That's borderline google glass.

Is this wireless charging thing supposed to work through a case?

Same here. My new SE does not play music as well as my old ipod touch. No idea where to check the dac specs.

My 6+ is probably good for awhile longer but it has started to do this slightly ominous thing of spontaneously popping up with the 'ringer off' or 'headphones silent' notifications when I'm not even touching it. Also it's too big but you all know that.

Is my reading of he specs correct in that they are now down to two models a China/Verizon/sprint model and an everyone else model.

That in itself might be a reason to upgrade. my Aus/Hong Kong model 6plus is fine in Asia, acceptable in the US and terrible at getting 4g in Europe.

fair but phones (especially ones running ios with its application silos and restrictions) and are a much easier deployment target than general purpose computer

only run containerized apps on my pc, problem solved

ok so ios 11 is out. anyone have anything to report? I wanna update my 6+ but I have the natural caution of someone with lots of half-finished not-backed-up music projects on my phone...

Seems to be murdering my battery life but too early to tell if that’s a permanent change. 32-bit apps die, RIP rockband. Otherwise ... fine?

nothing crucial. "Phone Story" hasn't worked for a while anyway. I just held out hope that it would one day and someone would appreciate that I had it on my iphone still.

Yes, for my mental health I had to eventually give up trying to get them to unlock my out-of-contract iPhone and had to sell it locked to EE instead. Then I quit them for Three and haven't looked back.

Battery life is now noticeably worse on my 7 plus after updating to IOS 11. Apart from that, not much difference so far.

control center is super nice

trying to figure out if my first gen watch is having battery issues or if something was screwed up

hopefully it just sorts itself out under the new watchOS

now when my phone wakes up, instead of just fading into my desktop, it starts at a brighter color and then changes. It's ugly. And the calculator icon is ugly. Some of the visual design choices are weird.

Pro tip buy PCalc and you get your choice of icons and a better calculator.

can't fathom being reluctant to upgrade a phone and blase about a desktop os upgrade that force upgrades the filesystem (unless it's one of the disks they can't reliably upgrade yet)
