i think it's just that marrero has been really good against leftys

devers has looked somewhat.... overmatched lately, particularly against lefties

ESPN trying to create the legend of david price here:
It might not save the series (or even the game) for Red Sox, but David Price gets two HUGE popups to leave the bases loaded and keep it a three-run game. Shades of 2008 when, as a rookie with the Rays, Price struck out J.D. Drew in the eighth inning of Game 7 of the ALCS against the Red Sox.

As Keuchel leaves with two out in the 6th, Red Sox cling to a 15-14 total bases load over Jose Altuve for the series— Peter Gammons (@pgammo) October 6, 2017
― mookieproof, Friday, 6 October 2017 20:32 (six years ago) link
They're still trailing Altuve 4-3 in runs scored though.

not sure why price couldn't still be in tbh. smith? really?
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 6 October 2017 21:10 (six years ago) link
i'm guessing that price needs longer to warm up and wasn't ready
― mookieproof, Friday, 6 October 2017 21:11 (six years ago) link
sure but why wasn't he warming before? i'm just bummed that these guys are suddenly so sloppy. they've been such a tight team.
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 6 October 2017 21:15 (six years ago) link
idk things unraveled pretty quickly in the third for pomeranz + price isn't used to warming up multiple times, so better be sure?
― mookieproof, Friday, 6 October 2017 21:19 (six years ago) link
awright - so what would you have done differently then
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 6 October 2017 21:20 (six years ago) link
this is just brutal
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 6 October 2017 21:33 (six years ago) link
oh, i don't think there's really a good answer when your starter only goes 2+
for the other stuff, starting marrero with the team desperate for power seemed iffy despite keuchel's lefty mastery and pinch hitting with moreland against devenski, who has killer reverse splits, was odd (although moreland did have a couple hits off him in the past)
but pretty much everything went wrong except price and some fortunate innings where the astros left the bases loaded

Price was actually one of the very few things going well for the Red Sox.
― Van Horn Street, Saturday, 7 October 2017 03:25 (six years ago) link
yes! so he had to be taken out immediately obv
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 7 October 2017 07:40 (six years ago) link
If he's really a reliever now then they did have to take him out when they did so he can pitch again in the series.

With Carlos Correa's two-run homer, the Astros have now scored seven first-inning runs in this ALDS. The Red Sox have scored a total of four runs in this ALDS.

50-ish rich and/or connected Sox fan almost fucked up Mookie making that play, which would have cost 2 runs iirchey baseball fans YOU'RE NOT IN THE GAME

Remember when Boston traded for Sale and were going to dominate with their otherworldly rotation? Doug Fister (added on waivers mid season) just lasted 1.1 innings in a must win playoff game.

If they were planning to let Price go four innings and 60 pitches then maybe he should have been starting.

Great game, I really thought that Boston had swung the series when Verlander gave up the HR and Sale continued dealing. God only knows who would have been the game five starters after that.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 9 October 2017 23:15 (six years ago) link
sale shouldn't have started the 8thtwo great games, i won't complaini love altuve and verlander but the rest of the astros kind of seem like villains
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 October 2017 07:00 (six years ago) link
and yea that includes ol' squinty, mccann
well, yeah, but Josh Reddick is a villain w/ a fabulous ass.
Hinch:
“You can lose playing conservatively, too. It’s very easy to go to the bullpen and leave Justin Verlander out of it, but our job is to try to win, it’s not to try not to lose. And we had an opportunity to do that. When it doesn’t work out, as long as I’m prepared, as long as I feel like I did the right thing by what our plan was, then I can live with the result. Doesn’t make you feel any better when Benintendi is running around the bases. That’s a pretty low moment for a manager.”
