I fell for the "late gen-xers selling transgression to early millenials" bullshit for about a minute fifteen years ago, then fell for the fake respectability they tried a few years after that. Since then, these people have occasionally published or produced the rare thing that's mildly entertaining but each article or show I enjoyed could have easily been put out by a different group with no real change because none of them really felt that linked to their branding

they don't have a bench of actual interesting personalities, nor do they really have enough depth on any specific topics

I mean, plenty of podcasts find success without either, but it ties back to the problem that their brand has no ethos. I mean, what's their hook, that they're edgy?

i liked the edgy vice of my youth, even though it's aged terribly those were quality LOLs that i cherish. the company's identity crisis is something to behold for sure and almost everything it does completely sucks but i think there is a potentially good version of vice out there that i like to imagine sometimes

I just looked up that Google report that put Vice at 2nd least cool among teens - it has YouTube at #1 on its cool graph? I knew YouTube was popular with the kids but I can't say I've ever thought of it as "cool." huh.

That’s the sort of post that would ordinarily seem destined to echo out into the void without response but luckily I, also, am a Nirvanna The Band The Show fan.
Has there been any progress on s2 reaching non-Canadian audiences via legal channels? Why was there a separate Canadian version of Viceland in the first place?

Also, while I’m here, to maybe try my own hand at a sales pitch: it’s about a two-man band in Toronto who live together and don’t seem to rehearse much, but go to extreme lengths every episode to book a gig at real-life venue The Rivoli (trying seemingly everything, except, for some reason, just calling up the place to do it the normal way). The piano player obviously has 99% of the talent in the group but the vocalist is the ringleader with all the harebrained schemes.
Like Ross said it’s mostly shot in real places with real people, apart from scenes back at their house where they come up with the plots. It’s remarkably airtight considering that - they have a knack for getting exactly what they need out of non-actors, and in a way that keeps much of the potential discomfort firmly on themselves. Along with the show’s emphasis on making Toronto feel like Toronto, the impression they create is that two people in this perfectly ordinary city are living a hilarious sitcom life, and we just happen to have cameras trained on them while they fail to gel with their surroundings. It’s really a delight, and probably the reason I keep forgetting that Vice doesn’t actually do all that much else that I like.

When was there an issue? It has aired in Australia and is all available for legal streaming

Hmm. For the longest time it wasn’t available in America, at least. But you’re right, it seems to be on iTunes now.
Anyway I would strongly encourage even the Vice-averse to give it a shot.
