i am back. I salute you for being able to have had a drink in the Canny Man.

Keith, Sunday, 1 April 2007 00:58 (seventeen years ago) link

rock the f*ck out. Canny Man is great -- peanuts on trays and general salubriousness. ok alex party has ruined me.

RJG, Thursday, 26 July 2007 13:48 (sixteen years ago) link

DEAR GLASGOW

does anyone want to FAP with a mongrel on either October 20th before Carter, or October 21st before/and thence Optimo?

energy flash gordon, Monday, 17 September 2007 07:38 (sixteen years ago) link

I tried Glasgow recently. I went to SLEAZY'S and I also went to MONORAIL but did not imbibe anything. I thought it looked OK though, if a bit out of the way. Handy for Argos though. I bought two unlistenable Lou Reed albums.

I think Glasgow has changed a lot in 20 years, but at the same time it is still the same.

Also, I met RJG and Cathy, but not in Glasgow.

PJ Miller, Monday, 17 September 2007 09:05 (sixteen years ago) link

I'd like to play pool for cheap in Glasgow, but not in a snooker club.

Any suggestions?

*rumpie*, Monday, 17 September 2007 11:43 (sixteen years ago) link

rumpie: i'm shit at pool but always enjoyed playing in sleazy's.

energy flash gordon: too right! just don't expect any firm plans to be sorted out until, ooh, october 19th at the earliest.

grimly fiendish, Monday, 17 September 2007 12:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Rumpie: Woodside Social Club, upstairs.
EFG: Grimly makes a good point.

Madchen, Monday, 17 September 2007 13:47 (sixteen years ago) link

EFG i wld def like to go for a FAP w/ you, why not come and see Boredoms at the Arches on the 23rd Oct too

Ward Fowler, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:09 (sixteen years ago) link

I am going to see Carter along with Grimly Fiendish and Andrew Farrell, and would also be up for a pint or six beforehand. Bagsy not Mono, even if it is handy for the Barrowlands. 13th Note, maybe?

OTM re Woodside - upstairs at the Scotia is also good, if a little, um, rough. Also, Rumpie, since you are in our area, they've just knocked the price of pool upstairs at Varsova in Paisley High Street down to 50p a game. However oddly positioned pillars make for some interesting tactical games (i.e. when getting gubbed by my brother, I tend to spend long games just knocking the ball down to that wee bit where it's really awkward for him to hit it)

ailsa, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:27 (sixteen years ago) link

There's that nice pub opposite the Barrowlands, what's it called? The Something Head?

Madchen, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:51 (sixteen years ago) link

I figured asking this early (and naming one event some Glasgowers were already going to) would be the only hope of actually getting anything sorted!

Ward I will be in London seeing LCD Soundsystem that night (otherwise would totally), but I wld also like to FAP with you and urge you to come to whatever is sorted on the 19th.

energy flash gordon, Monday, 17 September 2007 14:55 (sixteen years ago) link

aye: ward and i were discussing glasgow beer on the wales thread (like you do) ... my life's such a bizarre (and non-glasgow-based) affair right now that pubs seem little more than a remote possibility. but a full-on FAP that just happens to be pre-carter is a superb idea.

madchen: the saracen head? not been in there for a long time; was astonishngly drunk and had just had a gun pulled on me in the new monaco bar (which is showing this story's age ... christ's teeth, that would have been christmas 1997), so ... yeh, ISTR it was okay a FUCKING DECADE AGO. [pause while grimly feels old.] and it makes it easy to get to the venue, natch.

Rumpie: Woodside Social Club, upstairs

hmmm. i've only been up there once since the smoking ban kicked in and it was cold, bleak and empty. has it repopulated a bit?

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 11:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Cheers muckers, since I've cut down on the booze I find myself getting itchy feet in pubs and wanting to do something with my hands, (phnar phnar)

I can now totally understand how ex-smokers feel.

*rumpie*, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 11:35 (sixteen years ago) link

I am going to be trying Glasgow more this weekend for my nephew's christening, I think I'll be around on Friday, certainly in the daytime on Friday, and will definitely be free on Sunday afternoon/evening.

So would be nice to see some ILXors if anyone's free....

Ronan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:09 (sixteen years ago) link

Sunday suits me, Friday not so much. Are you still on the mobile that ends 533?

Alba, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Sunday or Friday suits me I think. Most Glasgow ILXors have my phone number for arrangement purposes.

ailsa, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 10:59 (sixteen years ago) link

yay! drink definitely. optimo? or do you have an early start on monday?

jed_, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 11:00 (sixteen years ago) link

shit yeah, optimo! never even thought of that. that would be amazing. I'm still kinda sick but I think I'd be okay, barring a really bad day. Also never been to Optimo and Jonnie played for us just last week. Could be a plan. Drinks on Sunday maybe and then possibly Optimo?

and Alba, yep, still that number.

Ronan, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 12:33 (sixteen years ago) link

oh yes, this will be good then. hope you feel up to it Ronan.

FAPtimo!

jed_, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:08 (sixteen years ago) link

I may have Friday and Monday off work (I'm meant to have all this week off, but it's not working out that way at the moment) so Optimo sounds most excellent to me. If you want to do someting Friday, send me an email.

Madchen, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:48 (sixteen years ago) link

I'd like to have west beer in the east sunday afternoon or so but will bow to peer pressure as always

RJG, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:13 (sixteen years ago) link

West Beer sounds good to me. Madchen, if you are off on Friday and/or Monday, let me know and we can go and see Kylie's pants etc since I am not working at the moment.

ailsa, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Excellent. Will let you know when I'm sure I'll be off work - it's all a bit in flux at the moment.

Madchen, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:32 (sixteen years ago) link

not sure i'll do optimo -- i mean, i've got 9am starts now i'm a (part-time) FUCKING STUDENT again -- but sunday-afternoon beer would be excellent (west is a vg idea) and it'd be superb to meet you, ronan.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 23:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Come on, nobody expects you to go to a 9am lecture on a Monday (or Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday).

Madchen, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:23 (sixteen years ago) link

yes grimly, get into the college spirt! just don't let the crusty old dean catch you.

Ronan, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:38 (sixteen years ago) link

unfortunate typo...don't pay heed to it

Ronan, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:38 (sixteen years ago) link

heh ... ew ... crusty spurting ... where were we? o ye: how can i be KEEN MATURE STUDENT DUDE if i'm skiving lectures already, eh?

plus: the two i've had so far have been abso-fucking-lutely fascinating and i'm genuinely loath to miss 'em.

then again, optimo.

hmmmmm.

one to play by ear.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:51 (sixteen years ago) link

how can i be KEEN MATURE STUDENT DUDE if i'm skiving lectures already
ahem cof cof wot was I to do this am again? o dear.

Anyway, you're quite right. The thought of students going to Optimo is scandalous.

stet, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 14:21 (sixteen years ago) link

ahem cof cof wot was I to do this am again? o dear

DUDE.

tell me you've at least got yr hetherington key?

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 15:06 (sixteen years ago) link

what's the script?

jed_, Friday, 28 September 2007 23:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I think it's time we at least started considering a plan.
