la lechera does good posts, smart and insightful. always appreciate the respite from rolling my eyes when i'm reading thru a thread.

Great taste in music too!

LL rules.

Great drummer, too.

LL totes rocks.

More broadly (no pun intended), ILX has been gifted with top-tier women posters (just not nearly enough of them). The thread where men are forbidden to post is often one of the best. Wish we had more threads where people were relegated to just 'listening' to other people.

Home of the Ill-Considered Gravy Spigot (Old Lunch), Thursday, 16 November 2017 17:37 (six years ago) link

wow, thanks, people! like i said on that other thread, my most genuine gratitude goes to the ilx massive even through its many dramatic changes -- i have stuck around here this long for a number of reasons, and managed to mostly lay low and try to interact with people about music and other things in a mutually positive (noncombative) manner. people aren't as mean here as they used to be (i have been here for 12 years!) and i feel more comfortable just being myself. that wasn't the case when i got here 12 years ago, so thanks for being here ilx! i do regret that many women said fuck it and left. i totally understand why.

and hi 5 to all ilxors i have hung out with irl -- wkiw again, i aim to be peaceful in all spheres

it's great if there are spaces for "listening" but tbh i don't like the idea of having an audience. it makes me uncomfortable. that is why i like ilx, i can just be myself!

i think w/ILX and the time i've spent here since 2004(!), the women who have posted here in the past and at present (LL, enbb, roxy, jbr, in orbit, horseshoe, tokyo rosemary, harbl, branwell, and others) have just through reading what they have to say have contributed in some way to making me a better man. i'm much better now than i was back then. i'm sorry that some of them don't post here anymore though i get it. i actually met JBR IRL for about thirty seconds, wish i'd had a moment to talk to her more actually but it was at a show...

co-sign on all of that. i have perma-cringe at some of the things i've said here, but at least i'm aware of it, and it's something i actively think about in my day-to-day life now.

Karl Malone, Thursday, 16 November 2017 18:26 (six years ago) link

co-co-sign, genuinely

harbinger of failure (Jon not Jon), Thursday, 16 November 2017 19:02 (six years ago) link

la lechera and vg’s posts have given me sustenance in these ugly and harrowing times. i’ve been appreciating them both very much.

estela, Thursday, 16 November 2017 19:18 (six years ago) link

In Orbit should have a radio show or something, I have learned so much from her postings

brimstead, Thursday, 16 November 2017 19:28 (six years ago) link

bonus: she has a ridiculously mellifluous speaking voice
she'd be great on the radio!

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Thursday, 16 November 2017 19:31 (six years ago) link

LL is great, it's true. Also, gets bonus points for use of "mellifluous".

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 16 November 2017 19:33 (six years ago) link

i used to drink a ton and i don't anymore and i'm just glad i didn't post anything too terrible that made too many people hate me. i made some bad jokes that i regret. sometimes i will remember when i would be up late spending, like, an hour typing a sentence because i couldn't see straight. those were the days!

on Facebook once this rock critic guy who as far as i know has never ever posted here posted something and i posted a youtube that i thought was applicable and he said something like: scott, you aren't going to post a million youtube videos are you?

it embarrassed me! my reputation preceded me or something. anyway, i don't know if i have grown since the old days, but i am less drunk. and the women here are definitely a big reason why i am still here. and i do miss the people who don't post anymore too. it was geeta's birthday yesterday.

scott seward, Thursday, 16 November 2017 19:42 (six years ago) link

i too think LL is great and wish she would be my friend again even though i was an asshole

clouds, Thursday, 16 November 2017 21:12 (six years ago) link

scott your contributions here have always been solid, always enjoy what you have to say

Randall Jarrell (dandydonweiner), Thursday, 16 November 2017 21:26 (six years ago) link

oh clouds -- i don't know what happened honestly.
you know where to find me! i'm definitely still around.

scott once you helped me find yoshi wada and i will be forever grateful.

four weeks pass...

Doctor Casino has put an impressive amount of time and care into the Joel thread. Though some posters have been dismissive and/or contemptuous of this project, it has brought joy into the lives of many others.

For the record, I'd like to state that ilx/ilm user Toby is a prince among men. Having never interacted with him on here before, he saw a post of me and offered to send me an extra copy of a - to me - invaluable record of The Caretaker that I missed out on and didn't have a chance to get a hold of. No questions asked, nothing required in return, not even a reimbursement, 'merely' a grand act of kindness from one ILM'er to the next. This poster made my new year, it warms the heart, and it's a testament to how beautiful ilm can be (underneath all the snark etc).

so many things in ILM year-end polls that i think i hate and then BradNelson says something enthusiastic about it and then i think "ok lemme see here what this is about"

I have honestly thought this at several points.

brad nelson you suck

you have to leave some love in the universe for other people to love, it's a fixed resource

in full agreement with the brad love here

(the blues version in his Broadway show) (crüt), Tuesday, 30 January 2018 02:56 (six years ago) link

xp. this is not the "facetiously criticize another ilxor with your tongue in cheek" thread. although you obviously have a talent for it that we all can admire.

A is for (Aimless), Tuesday, 30 January 2018 03:00 (six years ago) link

I can’t fully endorse the format but j. proclaiming his agreement through feigned sarcasm doesn’t need a “well, actually”

mh, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 03:20 (six years ago) link

you all suck, so hard

brad is good and they teach me about describing sound with every piece

maura, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 03:27 (six years ago) link

Brad is one of the people I can trust to be a steady voice, to the point where I can read a review or post and think “hmm I am glad Brad loves this but I know it’s not for me” because of a steadfast reviewing hand

mh, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 03:49 (six years ago) link

kolakube (Ross), Tuesday, 30 January 2018 04:01 (six years ago) link

Brad is the best. Eligible to work for bolson's crew, too, which is a real feather in his cap.
