I waited until I got home from work one day last week before googling "knob of butter" but it was ok.

I swear the last thing I googled was "moose trepidation" because occasionally I like to search random pairs of words to see what comes up.
(Top of the list: A metal blog called "The Headbanging Moose" posted a mix including a band called Trepidation.)

just googled "bronté" bcz i read that the brontë dad -- born patrick branty or brunty -- only started spelling himself this way when nelson became duke of bronté and i didn't know where bronté was
(it's in sicily)

For a few years I used to often pass through Bronte Country en-route to work on the Guardhouse estate in Keighley. A seriously lovely place of beautiful desolation - especially on a winter's morning - cliched probably but true. The Guardhouse estate though, was grimmer than it gets t'up north.

It's a beautiful place for sure. I don't miss living there per se, but miss the scenery.
Saer's videos with dashcam footage on this board made me yearn for a version of Sowerby->Luddenden->Myhtolmroid->Hebden Bridge->Hardcastle Crags->Oxenhope->Haworth->Top Withens. One of the most beautiful routes I've ever seen.

I have done a lot of wandering around Hardcastle Crags/Hebden Bridge in my time, stunningly beautiful place. I was going to rent a cottage out there for a few days, a couple of years back, and they were all fully booked up and it was much more expensive than I was expecting. There is definitely a big demand for Hebden Bridge these days.
― calzino, Sunday, 26 November 2017 11:49 (six years ago) link
Hebden Bridge is crazy expensive, mostly through it's hippie/hipster image (which is pretty otm in a self-fulfilling prophecy kind of way). But in the surrounding places you can find nice small houses to rent for an ok price, if you're ok with not having a lot of luxury etc.

Curta is an interesting story with the concentration camp stuff. My interest came from its inclusion in William Gibson's Pattern Recognition which I'm enjoying very much.
