shades of Hoddle v Watford, intent notwithstanding

thirst trap your hare (DJ Mencap), Saturday, 25 November 2017 19:18 (six years ago) link

Also good because I had Chelsea and Liverpool as a draw along with Man United, Wolves and Fulham to win in my fourfold today, which I am sure will come as a consolation to any of ye who had money on Spurs.

Unsworth looks so disappointed. It’s heartbreaking.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Sunday, 26 November 2017 15:02 (six years ago) link

Everton, Swans and Hammers to go down? That would be something, if Palace could leap over them.

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 26 November 2017 15:05 (six years ago) link

something horrific

imago, Sunday, 26 November 2017 15:11 (six years ago) link

No feelings lost w/ Hammers and Swans tbh. I don't understand what Swans have been even trying to do or build the last couple of PL years. They seem clueless within the luxury of PL.

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 26 November 2017 15:16 (six years ago) link

So keep Unsworth till the end of the season?

The buttermilk of Beelzebub (Tom D.), Sunday, 26 November 2017 15:22 (six years ago) link

that was a truly dismal performance from Everton. Ashley Williams looks like a drowning man

just want to post my monthly reminder that Danny Mills is a fucking cock

get in! what a fun half that was

Windsor Davies, Sunday, 26 November 2017 16:47 (six years ago) link

great performance from Huddersfield

gonna be tough to hold out though

Number None, Sunday, 26 November 2017 16:48 (six years ago) link

It's only fair they beat City too, after Manu. Loving this.

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 26 November 2017 16:48 (six years ago) link

I'm going to enjoy this until the second half annihilation!

calzino, Sunday, 26 November 2017 16:58 (six years ago) link

oh ffs

Number None, Sunday, 26 November 2017 17:04 (six years ago) link

Only good reason for Palace's continued existence is to torture imago by surviving in the premier league.

Any seaweeds in the house? Wd like to get my congrats in early for what is sure to be a cathartic thrashing by the home team on tuesday

But doctor, I am Camille Paglia (Bananaman Begins), Sunday, 26 November 2017 18:41 (six years ago) link

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 26 November 2017 20:42 (six years ago) link

I don't think a deep rearguard action with zero shots on target will look too good for Town on MOTD tbh. But with the blue + white tinted specs on that was mostly good entertainment. Wagner learned pragmatism in that disastrous first half against Spurs, can't blame him against Man City tbh - it was like the Wehrmacht vs the Belgium army in mismatched-ness.

calzino, Sunday, 26 November 2017 20:44 (six years ago) link

we have two brighton fans, except one is actually a utd fan and the other is actually a liverpool fan (and i bullied him off ilx like a year ago, still ;_; about that tbh, come back pls)

imago, Sunday, 26 November 2017 20:56 (six years ago) link

Yeah tbf I am surprised he never came back. Miss him. No point really having Bundesliga/La Liga threads without him.

Watching Valencia-Barca rn. Valencia one up, and Barca p clueless. Suarez perpetually offside, Messi trying to dribble through brick walls. It's total pointless fitba tbh.

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 26 November 2017 21:20 (six years ago) link

Never count him out. Amazing Messi assist 1-1

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 26 November 2017 21:26 (six years ago) link

ha!

who says no to mentals? (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 26 November 2017 21:27 (six years ago) link

"Huddersfield fans singing "where were you when you were shit" at Man City fans. Huddersfield's average home attendance in 15/16 Championship season was 12,631 (third from bottom). Capacity of the stadium is 24,169."

Can't fucking argue with that rank hypocrisy.

calzino, Sunday, 26 November 2017 22:25 (six years ago) link

getting "called out"!

Iirc the joke about man city fans when they were shit wasn't lol fairweather fans, but lol look at all these mugs still paying thru the nose to watch their shitty team and clogging up radio phone-ins insisting what a massive, massive club they were

But doctor, I am Camille Paglia (Bananaman Begins), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 08:31 (six years ago) link

the false memory syndrome of post-Prem football, where clubs that have achieved big dog status rewrite their history as monolithic and eternal: Chelsea, Man City etc

Big Pred aka (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 08:58 (six years ago) link

Man City were still very well supported in their league one season, whereas our support has more than doubled since them days. Literally half of our stadium didn't give a fuck when we were shit. Some of these selfie taking fucks with their tribal tattoos were far too busy being in the gym or going to centrist dad classes or something when we were shit!

calzino, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:33 (six years ago) link

man city only got out of league one because gillingham couldn't protect a 2-0 lead going into injury time

imago, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:35 (six years ago) link

Yeah the double drop and subsequent recovery is definitely written into City mythology at this stage.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:36 (six years ago) link

famously half the stadium had walked out and were trying get back in again iirc

calzino, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:37 (six years ago) link

It's surely true that the supporters keeping coming even in League 1 is fairly key to Man City mythology; on the other hand I reckon I've heard more about their 1968 title win in the last three years than in the rest of my life put together.

Tim, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:39 (six years ago) link

fan support is part of "massive clubness" sure but then Bradford were still pulling 10,000 in League 2 so it's got to be more than just that

Pred Sheeran (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:41 (six years ago) link

xxxxp calzino, getting into real england territory but do you note a correlation between tribal tattoos and centrist daddism? Big if true

But doctor, I am Camille Paglia (Bananaman Begins), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:44 (six years ago) link

just generalising, my paper will be released later.

calzino, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:47 (six years ago) link

Personally I couldn't give less of a fuck about historical attendance dick waving. If a club makes it to the premier league more people will turn up to watch them, film at 11.

(On friday may 11 1979, more ppl packed into selhurst park to see palace's team of the eighties win the second division title than were at anfield the same night to see liverpool crowned first division champions. Ergo crystal palace = bigger club than liverpool lol)

But doctor, I am Camille Paglia (Bananaman Begins), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:49 (six years ago) link

i've enjoyed seeing city fans' sentimental comfort in their own misfortune turn into this bewildered, disbelieving, but very appreciative attitude to their success

ogmor, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:51 (six years ago) link

Bradford attendances were boosted by £100 season tickets in L2. And they did that thing of giving out attendances + all season ticket holders whether present or not.

I have a valid complaint at the Prem daytrippers, nothing to do with dickwaving. I just can't go anymore because of them clogging up the nice quite disabled area.

calzino, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:54 (six years ago) link

well formerly nice and quite disabled area.

calzino, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:54 (six years ago) link

quiet*

calzino, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:54 (six years ago) link

If a club makes it to the premier league more people will turn up to watch them, film at 11.

yeah basically, I think the "massive club" thing is mostly a self-consoling lie that some fans resort to when their team is doing badly, tho I understand a degree of resentment towards people that can only be bothered to go to a game if it's in the Prem.

Pred Sheeran (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:56 (six years ago) link

got some drawn out stupid false dialectic about fans of brands vs fans of football that I haven't got the concentration to make but there is often an innate annoyingness about glory-hunters espesh when they're chatting bollocks tbh

Pred Sheeran (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:58 (six years ago) link

Who are the worst proponents of massive clubness at Championship level or below these days? I'm guessing it's still Leeds but there are a few contenders.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 09:59 (six years ago) link

Sorry, I meant dickwaving as in one-upmanship between rival fans: you got less than 5000 in for a league cup game in 1986, that sort of thing. Ur totally entitled to be grudgeful at day trippers with tribal tattoos of course. Or anyone with tribal tattoos lol

But doctor, I am Camille Paglia (Bananaman Begins), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 10:00 (six years ago) link

Calzino was it a problem in herbert chapman's day?

But doctor, I am Camille Paglia (Bananaman Begins), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 10:02 (six years ago) link

we've always had plenty of "massive clubbers" but since that era was really the 1950s a lot of them are dead or fronting now. Leeds obv. I'm sure Sunderland do. Newcastle should be granted honorary Champo status for life. Weird how you don't hear it much from, say, Preston fans. I'm sure a few Villa lads would like to point out their massiveness.

Pred Sheeran (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 10:03 (six years ago) link

I bet there's a "Bolton are a sleeping giant" contingency
