This show has always felt too zeitgeisty (in it's own little way) to really endure for very long. Not sure I can really imagine them getting any more popular than they already are.

I do like what i've heard of champagne sharks

Their subscriber numbers are still going up. I’m curious what effect(if any) their book will have
― Google Murray Blockchain (kingfish), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 19:50 (six years ago) link
I think it'll be a New Jersey, just like the Maddox book
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 19:52 (six years ago) link
brad and angelina's kid wrote a book?
― hi i’m darren and i’m a bouncer from bendigo (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 20:00 (six years ago) link
Entirely probable, but a diff with the Maddox book is that Maddox wasn’t tied into a burgeoning book-heavy political movement or sharing a borough with 10,000 social media reporters & writers who they all share a social network with
But the book probably ain’t hitting till, when? Next summer, when all the 2018 campaigns will be in heavy news rotation?
― Google Murray Blockchain (kingfish), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 20:03 (six years ago) link
idk, their subscriber numbers have plateaued a little in the past couple months, which was inevitable at some point. might be just a blip and not intended as a criticism fwiw; i don't know if anyone every expected them to reach anything near the level of popularity they have. they got at least 1000 new subscribers each month from january to september!
― intheblanks, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 20:09 (six years ago) link
today's episode is pretty good fwiw

xxp very good points, kingfish. maybe a more accurate comparison would be Jon Stewart/The Daily Show's 'America: the Book'?
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 20:12 (six years ago) link
also lol i love that they have matching adidas tracksuits now
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 20:13 (six years ago) link
Yesterday’s Champagne Sharks ep was a nice conversation with Jessa Crispin that will probably ruffle some feathers.
― Google Murray Blockchain (kingfish), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 20:15 (six years ago) link
2 a week has been a good number to keep me from tuning out, but I didn't go backwards and binge once I started listening (circa NYer article) and I don't listen to anything else in the Chapo vein.
More serious lefty podcasts just end up gathering dust with the philosophy podcasts I'm subbed to - I'm listening while I drive while working, they're not very suitable in that environment.
― louise ck (milo z), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 20:19 (six years ago) link

To an extent, yes, but I think a difference here is that while the Daily Show book hit at the peak of their popularity/relevance in the ‘04 election, they were much more in a mass media form already, with millions of regular viewers, whereas this show has maybe 50-100k regular listeners in a far more (sub)niche venue
So who knows. Graphtreon will track it, same as they have so far.
― Google Murray Blockchain (kingfish), Tuesday, 28 November 2017 20:28 (six years ago) link
I don't think Crispin's argument about the need for non-public (or less public) channels to deal with allegations is not that different from the pieces a few weeks about about formalizing the "whisper network". (I'm only 20 mins in so I don't know if there's more controversial stuff later)
― Simon H., Tuesday, 28 November 2017 20:51 (six years ago) link
*all that different
also I understand the point of "popular contemporary feminists are only allowed to be Steinems, not Dworkins" but I'm uh also not sure that Lindy West fits neatly in with the criteria she lays out

Really enjoying the Will/Amber/Matt ep
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 28 November 2017 21:20 (six years ago) link
Yeah it seems like the best dynamic is either Will/Amber/Matt or Will/Matt/Felix. And tbh I don't really feel like Virgil Texas adds much to the show, he's just like a midpoint between Will and Matt or something.
― IF (Terrorist) Yes, Explain (man alive), Wednesday, 29 November 2017 21:23 (six years ago) link
he's valuable as the data/polling wonk, otherwise he's just too "extremely online" for me, also a gamer
― flappy bird, Wednesday, 29 November 2017 21:31 (six years ago) link
yeah his election breakdown recently was good
― IF (Terrorist) Yes, Explain (man alive), Wednesday, 29 November 2017 21:37 (six years ago) link
I would be totally okay with Felix and Virgil leaving the show tbh.

I need to go back and find the Frost/Christman movie podcasts

this was an interesting listen. i like this show and listen every week w CTH.
loved the Gorka stuff. hahaha that voice. didn't he say something about absconding in a hot air balloon at one point? very James Bond villain. they need to reference the Matt Lauer desk button next time.

AdomianGorka’s first appearance explicitly mentioned his resemblance to Hugo Drax, the dude from Moonraker.

Here's the absolutely insane gorka gun magazine interview they were talking about, for anyone who hadn't seen.
The second gorka call remains my favorite but they're all gold.

what movies did they do? i remember when those dropped but never got around to them
― flappy bird, Friday, 1 December 2017 02:46 (six years ago) link
A bunch. John Wayne's Genghis Khan flick, the Adam Sandler 9/11 movie, American Sniper, some Dinesh D'souza trash, Wonder Woman, Boss Baby(sorta)
Plus, the origin ep of the show was when the three of them were guests on Street Fight Radio to rip into that stupid Michael Bay Benghazi movie.

Ben Shapiro's debating skills boil down to relentlessly not shutting up and being 100% impervious to actually engaging with another person's points.

i hate "logic masters"
It doesn't help that the Internet in general and especially forums encourages nitpicking and one paragraph-at-most arguments - so any schmuck like Shapiro who has a forum to be longwinded can impress a lot of people.

ok the post-tax bill ep is one of their best. palpable rage and a thorough repudiation of the "waaah, dominance politics" crowd.
