don't mind when they're winning 5-0 and reinventing modern football or w/e but these single goal margin wins are no fun

Otm.

talking of 5-0, commiserations to calzino, that's brutal

damian green is people (NickB), Wednesday, 29 November 2017 22:00 (six years ago) link

Yeah, that's harsh

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 29 November 2017 22:07 (six years ago) link

Howe is the next to go isn't he? B'mouth are aimless.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 29 November 2017 22:17 (six years ago) link

When wagner starts a game with Quaner and Cranie in the xi at the emirates you expect an absolute twatting. But we were good value for the first 60, apart from being as impotent as usual in the final third. But tbf Quaner had a shot on target. I saw enough in that first hour to know we will do better against the weaker sides. I don't fancy our chances against the ugly TWerP on saturday tho!

xp, it's this apparently

"I was telling Nathan Redmond how good he is at the end. Southampton have some super talented players, Redmond is so good one against one. But they didn't' want to play, they were time wasting from the ninth minute. I just wanted them to play." - Guardiola to BBC post-match. Stop

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 29 November 2017 22:48 (six years ago) link

Encouraging, but I'm going to regard last night in the same kind of tediously deep historical context that my middle-age demands... i.e., it's basically the same as the night we thrashed Leeds in late '79 (Latchford (3)) and went back to garbage the weekend after. I think Leeds had already lost 0-7 at Arsenal in the League Cup that season. And we nearly always thump West Ham (and we always thump Moyes), even when the performance doesn't merit it (e.g. the 3-1 away a few seasons ago when WHU were one up into the last few minutes). And surely, given the positioning of Hart and the last two defenders for that WR wonder-strike, just about any hoof on target would have been a goal. Good of him to go for aesthetics.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 30 November 2017 10:32 (six years ago) link

Based on the first half there is reason for some optimism. Everton gelled at times and though it wasn't very good, there was some spirit there, good intention. Not as lacklustre as they have been all season. But the second half they only just managed to hold on. WHU (Moyes' WHU...) caused all sorts of trouble for EFC. It's a small miracle it ended 4-0 where it could've easily been 3-3, too.

Idk what Big Sam needs to bring to the table to change things around, other than the old vague 'confidence' and 'winning mentality'. The players individually are better than to sit in the bottom four. Most of all you need a striker under your xmas tree though.

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 30 November 2017 11:42 (six years ago) link

Now that would be a bold tactic

wayne rooney could prob do a job up front for a game or two

tho would need to find cover at left back

Sissoko on the bench, a start for Son.

"I've managed six clubs in the Premiership, which is more than anybody else.." says Big Sam without mentioning how many times he has been pumped.

Busy so haven't been near it

I note one shot on target against us is worth a goal again.

Will catch highlights with interest tonight to see if lloris uninspiring recent form continues

is this a sort of derby

What has happened to Spurs? The drop-off has been inexplicable and I haven’t read or heard any cogent theories why (or even non-cogent ones).

fields of salmon, Saturday, 2 December 2017 18:00 (six years ago) link

tough run of fixtures mostly i think

imago, Saturday, 2 December 2017 18:07 (six years ago) link

Teams are playing compact against us, we have only very limited routes to goal ito creativity and eriksen and alli are the guys tasked with making things happen around the box. Both are in shockingly poor form in the league.

Also we've been playing sissoko.

Also...beginning to worry about pochs book.

it turns out that the best thing to do when faced with de gea is to kick the ball in the opposite direction to him

Late last season I think I was happy enough with the idea of all the players who wanted to leave being sold for huge cash and poch holding a refreshed and committed core.

Now I think it's necessary tbh. Rose, Dier and if this isn't just youth/form/inconsistency with Alli then him too.

Poch will have more success with motivated 6/10 player like Harry Kane than with unhappy superstars

arsenal have ripped utd apart here and are 3-1 down

imago, Saturday, 2 December 2017 18:54 (six years ago) link

Is it true that this game is completely ridiculous and amazing?

Matt DC, Saturday, 2 December 2017 18:54 (six years ago) link

Arsene, meet Jose (xp)

Action of Boyle Man Prompts Visitor to Stay (Tom D.), Saturday, 2 December 2017 18:55 (six years ago) link

if koscielny played for utd and de gea for arsenal this would actually be 5-0

imago, Saturday, 2 December 2017 18:56 (six years ago) link

OK, so Pogba sent off.

first united match i’ve missed this season, sounds like i done fucked up

damian green is people (NickB), Saturday, 2 December 2017 19:12 (six years ago) link

game of the season, super fun

nxd, Saturday, 2 December 2017 19:51 (six years ago) link

City are going to batter us but it's good to see this united team have some resilience. Great game.

thomasintrouble, Saturday, 2 December 2017 21:05 (six years ago) link

Apparently Arsenal's expected goals was around 5. Which I think just tells us how much bollocks Expected Goals is.

thomasintrouble, Saturday, 2 December 2017 21:08 (six years ago) link

it would appear to tell us that arsenal didn't place their shots well when they had the chances and that de gea is exceptionally hard to beat.

wmlynch, Saturday, 2 December 2017 21:34 (six years ago) link

Not sure we need an opaque stat for that when it was dead obvious for anyone watching the game though.

thomasintrouble, Saturday, 2 December 2017 21:45 (six years ago) link

Sigh... we're not even fun like arsenal

moyesery loves kompany (darraghmac), Saturday, 2 December 2017 22:26 (six years ago) link

Ref obv seeking to even things up, that's never a red but the koscielny one is clearly red
