awww yeahhhh
― hi i’m darren and i’m a bouncer from bendigo (bizarro gazzara), Friday, 1 December 2017 18:16 (six years ago) link
Oh good, for a minute I was concerned they wouldn’t have Amber on.
― Google Murray Blockchain (kingfish), Friday, 1 December 2017 19:42 (six years ago) link
lmao @ amber calling him "Hugh Jazzman"
― flappy bird, Friday, 1 December 2017 19:49 (six years ago) link
ok the post-tax bill ep is one of their best. palpable rage and a thorough repudiation of the "waaah, dominance politics" crowd.
― Simon H., Monday, 4 December 2017 13:28 (six years ago) link
I laughed at "You were friends with the Lindbergh baby!"
― President Keyes, Monday, 4 December 2017 13:34 (six years ago) link
Felix went off in this episode
― een, Monday, 4 December 2017 15:59 (six years ago) link
We don't appear to have a Patreon thread but it appears they done fucked up today.
― louise ck (milo z), Friday, 8 December 2017 01:59 (six years ago) link
what, the price increase? or the lack of a new premium episode
― flappy bird, Friday, 8 December 2017 02:15 (six years ago) link
Patreon's price increase
― louise ck (milo z), Friday, 8 December 2017 02:25 (six years ago) link
yea it's fucked up. got emails yesterday from other people I pledge to giving notice about the price increase and how unfair it is. it doesn't make any sense, these creators were happy to take on the processing fees- why pass them onto the customers?
― flappy bird, Friday, 8 December 2017 02:27 (six years ago) link
more money
― gbx, Friday, 8 December 2017 02:52 (six years ago) link
Yeah, it's a pure cash grab. There are already murmurs from folks wanting to start a not-for-profit alternative.
― Simon H., Friday, 8 December 2017 03:25 (six years ago) link
Even a for profit alternative that used the old patreon system would surely prevail
― -_- (jim in vancouver), Friday, 8 December 2017 03:27 (six years ago) link
the Nomiki Konst segment was good, is she the most mainstream personage they've ever had on? It was almost funny to hear them respectfully silence their usual fuck-the-Dems rhetoric for half an hour
― Simon H., Monday, 11 December 2017 13:50 (six years ago) link
yeah, this ep was a nice balance of smart and stupidi do enjoy virgil and felix’s vaguely rain man dynamic

More mainstream than Naomi Klein?
― IF (Terrorist) Yes, Explain (man alive), Monday, 11 December 2017 17:19 (six years ago) link
I think so. she's been on fox news and stuff.
― Simon H., Monday, 11 December 2017 17:22 (six years ago) link
more mainstream than sebastian gorka?
― straightedge is just volcel for vegans (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 11 December 2017 18:27 (six years ago) link
David Hayter & all the celebrity comedians they've had on are definitely more mainstream than this person
― flappy bird, Monday, 11 December 2017 18:28 (six years ago) link
they've had patton oswalt on
― -_- (jim in vancouver), Monday, 11 December 2017 18:29 (six years ago) link
I guess I meant in terms of political commentators/personalities. (the Hayter segment was on some other Felix podcast btw)

I had a dream that the Chapo gang roasted me
― mag gerwig! (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 11 December 2017 18:37 (six years ago) link
ohh yeah. yeah that makes sense. still hoping for a Chris Hayes appearance on Chapo, that seems like a possibility (he is a premium subscriber iirc)

is nomiki konst mainstream? the neera tanden minions of the world still act like she & the unity commission are fringe nobodies
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 11 December 2017 19:27 (six years ago) link
yeah i wasn't familiar with her before reading this thread this morning (haven't heard the new ep yet), looked her up, since when is TYT mainstream?
― flappy bird, Monday, 11 December 2017 19:27 (six years ago) link
also for the record i have never listened to more than 5 minutes of this stupid show because i already know plenty of obnoxious loud white bearded socialists with podcasts and unlike these superstars i can at least tell my local brocialists apart on the mic
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 11 December 2017 19:29 (six years ago) link
i think they've trolled/said mean things about chris hayes, not sure if that means he's verboten
― global tetrahedron, Monday, 11 December 2017 19:29 (six years ago) link
whiney g traphousen
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 11 December 2017 19:33 (six years ago) link
again I only inferred mainsteamness because on top of TYT she's a CBS correspondent and has also been on Fox. I don't think neera tanden stans are necessarily the best judges of who and who is not on the fringe
I'm actually not sure all the CTH people are even socialists
― Simon H., Monday, 11 December 2017 19:33 (six years ago) link
they tweet at each other though, yeah they've had disagreements on there but Chris is a fan & im p sure they agree with the consensus that Chris is by far the best MSNBC host, at least certainly the most amenable to leftist politics
― flappy bird, Monday, 11 December 2017 19:34 (six years ago) link
felix supports the organization of the mojahedin of the islamic revolution of iran iirc xp

do people come onto other podcast threads to vent their disgust at their imagined versions of the hosts or is this a cth specific thing
― oiocha, Monday, 11 December 2017 20:17 (six years ago) link
they probably do. like i could probably make up some imagined pod save america content in my head lol

― Simon H., Monday, 11 December 2017 20:47 (six years ago) link
happily i don't have to imagine amber's unpleasantness, she spleened at me in person outside a bar because i'd sent a skeptical tweet about her review of The Purge

i think it's an effect of something becoming very popular very quickly, people do the same thing in music threads/movie threads/etc.
― flappy bird, Monday, 11 December 2017 23:07 (six years ago) link
"spleened" is a new one for me
― Simon H., Monday, 11 December 2017 23:21 (six years ago) link

i don't know what spleened means and i don't know if joan's post is directed at hoos's opinion of unpleasantness or amber's behavior

Spleened meaning "expressed anger at"
I didn't think I'd made this usage up (I swear its a Shakespeare thing or something) but maybe I did
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 12 December 2017 01:50 (six years ago) link
One “vents spleen” or “is full of spleen”, I’m not sure if “spleen” (v. intr.) is attested by Shakespeare.
― .oO (silby), Tuesday, 12 December 2017 01:56 (six years ago) link
First OED citation for spleen v intr is from 1885 and the entry says “US”

i did know about the use of spleen as a noun just not a verb. i remember reading a weird translation of notes from underground when i was like 17 and stopping after the first sentence. "i am ill. i am full of spleen and repellent." because come on.
