Here's the weird truth: even in this halcyon era, the Warriors never quite figured out offense with Curry on the bench. They've scored at around a league-average rate, or worse, with Curry resting in each of the past four seasons, per NBA.com. They have never really locked on a non-Curry identity. They move around without purpose, in cluttered space. Green shoots and distributes more, and can get a little wild. Thompson shoots more, and a little less accurately.

Golden State scored 115.4 points per 100 possessions when Curry played without Durant last season, and 108.7 with Durant as the lone alpha. The splits this season: 116 points per 100 possessions with just Curry, 107 with just Durant.

They remain historic with Curry as soloist. They are normal-good with Durant alone -- so far.

kinda makes u wonder abt drays legendary point forward abilities :P

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 December 2017 17:49 (six years ago) link

crazy how dray's lineup numbers are consistently on in the top 10 of the league then!

k3vin k., Wednesday, 6 December 2017 17:49 (six years ago) link

weird there seems to be something abt lineup numbers in general i cant quite put my finger on

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 December 2017 17:50 (six years ago) link

even the ones that adjust for teammates ;)

that said lineup data over less than a third of the season is probably quite meaningless

k3vin k., Wednesday, 6 December 2017 17:52 (six years ago) link

the famously good adjustments that definitely understand basketball

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 December 2017 17:53 (six years ago) link

*extremely stats guy voice* its a bit noisy over the course of a career

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 December 2017 17:54 (six years ago) link

yessss

The team currently has four guys in the top 10 for most minutes played this season,

lol who coulda predicted.

KATs numbers/usage are way down, seems like he should be able to sustain even with the addition of Jimmy B. #FreeKAT #FireThibs

Booker has a left groin strain and the projected recover time is 2-3 weeks according to Suns GM Ryan McDonough.

that lowe kd vs curry article was interesting in its detials but the premise is kinda tautological and not actually that compelling, like hes asking whos most valuable but just as easily couldve asked who is the offense built around and the answer to both is the offense is built around steph, of course one could also build an offense around durant, and maybe the warriors should or at least build it around steph and kd since they have them both

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 December 2017 00:34 (six years ago) link

its like when ppl trip over the value part of mvp theyre mistaking the context for the conclusion

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 December 2017 00:35 (six years ago) link

i do think lowe prob knows that, it was just a half assed attempt to have a flashy headline

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 December 2017 00:37 (six years ago) link

yeah solid points

k3vin k., Thursday, 7 December 2017 01:47 (six years ago) link

i'm sure he didn't write the headline but i find lowe's articles have a way of circling around points rather than just getting to them.

the stuff about steph driving more and taking more midrange stuff was interesting though. i wonder how much the injured finger is causing him to avoid lower-percentage 3s.

Somehow Harrison Barnes and Wesley Mathews have net ratings of -30 this season. Not sure I’ve ever seen that from full time starters this far in

i wonder if some players have a hard time transitioning to the NBA ball.

they used an all leather Wilson ball in the 90s, it was really nice, had me a couple. Somewhere along the way they adopted the Wilson Evolution and then the HORRIBLE Nike balls. ugh. now every team or conference uses whatever their sponsors makes them play with.

His 41.2 3-point percentage at UCLA is an anomaly — one that may have to do with a ball more than Ball himself.

An NBA executive passed along a theory to me that Lonzo shot better in college with Wilson brand balls since they have a softer grip with deeper ridges and thus mitigate the effects of his funky form. As I detailed this March, the numbers checked out: Ball shot 43.3 percent on 150 attempts using Wilson balls in college, compared with 34.1 percent on 44 attempts using Nike balls. All told, Ball has shot only 32 percent on 469 3-point attempts over the past three years of competition using non-Wilson balls. The NBA uses a Spalding ball, which is leather and widely considered the best on the planet. But what if Ball is struggling to adjust?

marcos, Thursday, 7 December 2017 19:13 (six years ago) link

based on some of the local sports dudes scuttlebutt things are getting bad between Thibs and the Wolves

god this franchise it's so fucking demoralizing, like year after year of this shit like i know we are 4th in the west and four games over 500 which is a fuckin miracle for this shitshow team but honestly given the players we have i feel like we are gonna just get the bare minimum of wins you should get given the talent on the roster

KAT looks like he's going to a funeral every night

i'm not saying everyone needs to be steve kerr or w/e but honestly it seems like thibs just sucks the life out of ppl

Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 7 December 2017 19:56 (six years ago) link

yeah in 2017 you prob need to be a least a bit of a players coach, which is good imo

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 December 2017 19:59 (six years ago) link

thibs also just has such unique down vibes, even just the way u can always hear him yelling on tv is unpleasant

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 December 2017 20:00 (six years ago) link

it's a weird sitch. maybe he should hire an assistant to do the rotations? from the outside it seems fixable but who knows. not getting the most out of your young studs is pretty damning, tho.

competitive shooter - - - - (Spottie), Thursday, 7 December 2017 20:07 (six years ago) link

the target center is built on cursed land

yeah i have no idea

it's like we hire respected assistants, turns to shit, hire respected veterans, hire fuckin dumb weirdos no one thinks should coach, it always turns to shit

we get flip back and he dies of cancer :(

one guy i always go back to as having gotten a raw deal was dwane casey, we ran him outta town for apparently no reason and i think he's a very solid coach (at least that was my impression when he was here and generally from afar seems to have done a solid job w/the raptors)

Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 7 December 2017 20:41 (six years ago) link

right now though, it's pretty damning of Thibs, for his supposed defensive genius, we aren't playing remarkably better defense then we ever have, and honestly i could dress up in a suit and draw penises on the clipboard and this team would be able to score over 100 pts

Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 7 December 2017 20:43 (six years ago) link

reminds me -- that was still the most inspirational pep talk i've ever been given

omar little, Thursday, 7 December 2017 20:50 (six years ago) link

thibs' jeff van gundy + hannibal lector vibe might work at first but i think with this team you need a positive feedback type of coach, yeah.

omar little, Thursday, 7 December 2017 20:52 (six years ago) link

i thought there was a chance Butler might keep increasing his PPG in minnesota but he's around 18 pts.

omar little, Thursday, 7 December 2017 20:53 (six years ago) link

he was the only scorer really last year but now he's sharing w KAT and Wiggins

competitive shooter - - - - (Spottie), Thursday, 7 December 2017 20:55 (six years ago) link

yeah true...

i think (hope?) thibs is gonna be the mark jackson to someone's kerr with these guys. i need another midwest team to root for, since the bulls should be contracted.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 7 December 2017 23:33 (six years ago) link

i see woke hinkie truthers on twitter slamming colangelo for this deal but i fail to see where he's at fault for hinkie drafting 4 guys in the top 10 who play the same position
