Ace in the Hole and Dumbo are my two favourites of things I've seen on here, tbh the racist bits of Dumbo make it harder to comfortably vote for.

the inclusion of Memento just makes me think there's some kind of Stonecutters conspiracy to foist Nolan's terrible career on the world, there are stupid films I love but not stupid films that think they're oh so clever like this one does

To Sleep with Anger is so good, and Glover's smoldering performance is unforgettable.

A lot people say it was a performance of a lifetime by Glover, and they are not wrong.

i've known of He Who gets Slapped for eons, had no idea it was on Vimeo.

cmon Soto, the Wilder movie is worth it for Kirk's "no Yogi Berra" monologue and "Kneeling bags my nylons."

The NFR is about as credible an indicator of quality as the Oscars. No preservation grants come with induction into the registry, and there's no indication the Library of Congress or other archives prioritize inducted titles. But it gives me a little glimmer of hope when the registry recognizes lesser-known films.

He Who Gets Slapped is also on MOD DVD from Warner Archives. I can't find any indication as to the accompaniment.

The These Amazing Shadows documentary is a nice if you are fan of these kinds of film-clip heavy things (I am). Generally, the only real utility that these things have is encouraging the viewer to check out some of the movies, and accordingly, my main takeaway is that I really need to see Baby Face.

iCloudius (cryptosicko), Sunday, 17 December 2017 03:32 (six years ago) link

Yes, you do need to see Baby Face as soon as possible.

The Library of Congress' new National Screening Room (https://www.loc.gov/collections/national-screening-room/) features Selections from the National Film Registry (https://www.loc.gov/collections/national-screening-room/?fa=partof:selections+from+the+national+film+registry). LoC is obviously constrained by copyright issues, but at least some of more obscure NFR titles should be available.

Because I didn't have time to make a poll.
