the cutting off the tattoo scene seemed a bit much! like i know jugg is supposed to have bit of edge now he's a serpent but slicing off a layer of flesh off a woman's arm with a knife is kind of fucked

Gregg Araki is directing an upcoming episode.

I might need to start watching this.

Me: "These stills from the next episode of Riverdale look super-ultra-gay. What in the world is going on here?"
Riverdale: "Directed by Gregg Araki."
Me: "Oh holy shit." pic.twitter.com/K8pLorX0KG

Not sure why Archie is wrestling. He can barely handle playing football and his other interests. Don't start another sport Arch.

Jeff, Saturday, 6 January 2018 13:45 (six years ago) link

as i said on twitter, if Archie doesnt wrestle Reggie I will throw my tv out the window. i’m counting on u Gregg Araki

Sorry guys, I tried.

It's great looking and I appreciate the appeal to the gay male gaze (Archie is literally introduced via a gay character staring at him through a window), but this is otherwise quite dreadful. The dialogue is the worst; in a just world, Kevin Williamson and Diablo Cody will one day be called to answer for their crimes against screenwriting.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 15 April 2018 22:28 (six years ago) link

I think the reason I love Riverdale IS that it’s so caricatured, the corny dialogue & ridiculous situations make it v enjoyable for me. But I also really like Gotham, which is even dumber & more ott

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 15 April 2018 22:30 (six years ago) link

I stalled out a couple of episodes into the second season - there's a lot of good there but it's just too arch.

louise ck (milo z), Sunday, 15 April 2018 22:35 (six years ago) link

I'll say this: if I kept watching, I'd be interested in seeing if the show ends up doing anything with the Hitchcockian touch of the resemblance between Archie and the murder victim.

Really, it just came down to my figuring out that watching all 13 episodes of the first season would take up a bit over 6.5 hours of my life, which perhaps doesn't sound like much, but I tend to measure these things in terms of what else I could be watching in that time, and I have a whole stack of promising DVDs checked out of the library at the moment (not to mention countless hours of unwatched movies in my PVR) and the numbers just didn't work out in the show's favour.

I mean, it’s essentially a wacky soap opera. Love it.

latebloomer, Sunday, 15 April 2018 23:26 (six years ago) link

It’s a fun, goofy show with pretty people in it. I like it

latebloomer, Sunday, 15 April 2018 23:32 (six years ago) link

i never paid much attention to Skeet Ulrich except thinking he was hot, but I am v much enjoying him as FP. And obv, crushing on him in a major way.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 15 April 2018 23:55 (six years ago) link

I am stalling out in season 2 also. Trying to make it through (it's a long season!)

Yerac, Sunday, 15 April 2018 23:58 (six years ago) link

The Carrie episode is coming up. Too big to fail right there.

Jeff, Sunday, 15 April 2018 23:58 (six years ago) link

so EXCITED

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 April 2018 00:51 (six years ago) link

I hate myself for having massive crushes on both Cole Sprouse AND Skeet Ulrich.

Stopped at episode two of season two, but started again a couple of days ago and now I'm back to being hooked lol. It's a good show to watch while folding laundry or just for the sake of having something on while you're doing something else.

In a show filled with dumb characters, Archie is literally too dumb to live though - like yes, telling your mobster boss you've been keeping a (very thin) journal of all the shady things you've seen is an extremely good idea.

Roz, Monday, 16 April 2018 03:26 (six years ago) link

Yeah both Archie & Jug are in the hottest dumb-off I’ve ever seen. it’s appointment tv!

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 April 2018 03:28 (six years ago) link

so apparently this week's episode is a musical episode. i am probably going to chew my arm off while watching this

Louis Jägermeister (jim in vancouver), Monday, 16 April 2018 16:17 (six years ago) link

you’ll love it

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 April 2018 20:34 (six years ago) link

i was lolling the entire way through but i'm not a musical guy

F# A# (∞), Sunday, 22 April 2018 01:51 (five years ago) link

kind of impressive how my biggest takeaway from it was still "archie is so dumb"

lowercase (eric), Sunday, 22 April 2018 01:57 (five years ago) link

honestly you guys have the weirdest expectations for this show

just enjoy it while munching on some snacks

F# A# (∞), Sunday, 22 April 2018 02:07 (five years ago) link

our takeaway in the Veg household was that this was v lolsy and kinda awkward but also it's Riverdale so yay
it wasn't so much a musical as 'sing dialogue and pretend it's a song'.
Also Kevin should sing more! he's got a nice voice. We were loling at Cheryl's weird high-then-deep style.

my money is still on Hal being the black hood
I have no evidence to support it except a gut feeling but I am standing by it :D

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 22 April 2018 02:11 (five years ago) link

xp oh i am and i love it but y'know, really wanna shake the kid and tell him to think for a second

yeah it wasn't really "once more with feeling" but using it for [redacted] was a nice enough self-aware acknowledgment of the problems with plot dictating character. i'm not even gonna try to guess who is what now

lowercase (eric), Sunday, 22 April 2018 02:19 (five years ago) link

also as I said to Mr Veg, Archie is very handsome and love him dearly but there's only one true Tommy

it wasn't so much a musical as 'sing dialogue and pretend it's a song'.

I’m not familiar with it, but weren’t they the actual songs from Carrie: The Musical?

tbf a lot of musicals are just about singing dialogue

mh, Sunday, 22 April 2018 02:39 (five years ago) link

God this was painful.

Was kind of glad that archie finally turned towards his father and away from sinister gangster Lodges this episode, wasn't expecting that to happen right then tbh

Louis Jägermeister (jim in vancouver), Sunday, 22 April 2018 02:41 (five years ago) link

xpost yeah I didn't realize that at the time, But either their performance of it was REALLY woeful or this is not a musical I'm gonna rush out and see any time soon or a little from column a, a little from column b

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 22 April 2018 02:45 (five years ago) link

I’m not a big fan of musicals but making one based on Carrie is a pretty good idea and every high school should stage it, imo
