but regardless my point was that no one is arguing that this song is 'authentically' popular but ppl keep hammering home that authenticity issue like it proves their taste right

Wow! Thought it was a radio station or something in the US! Very impressed to see it’s a spotify playlist and how huge it is.

Payola in the Spotify era sounds interesting... you can get real numbers and instant results and they’re pretty much open for everyone to see. Not being cynical this is kind of exciting for me... seeing the actual followers and play numbers behind a hit.
