Grayling makes me think of a barely sentient middle management drone, that many people would gladly murder.

calzino, Monday, 8 January 2018 14:20 (six years ago) link

Mmm, I remember a year or two back the media gave Corbyn untold grief for 'bungling' a reshuffle, and all the complaints seemed to amount to was the press not getting spoon-fed the announcements at a time of their choosing. Dunno if similar is going on here.

Obviously, I don't actually care if May is being treated unfairly, I mean, fuck her

But doctor, I am Camille Paglia (Bananaman Begins), Monday, 8 January 2018 14:30 (six years ago) link

tbf I don't think Corbs tweeted the name of a new appointment and then had to pull it cos it was wrong

not raving but droning (Noodle Vague), Monday, 8 January 2018 14:34 (six years ago) link

tbf I don't think Theresa May is personally responsible for everybody in the Tory party being useless

not raving but droning (Noodle Vague), Monday, 8 January 2018 14:34 (six years ago) link

The fact that any career movements within the party are different-wedges-of-support jenga rather than in any way based on competence probably isn't helping.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 8 January 2018 14:44 (six years ago) link

It's like the letters falling off at the conference, there will probably be an attempt at spinning sympathy for her having to work with a load of hopeless schmucks

But doctor, I am Camille Paglia (Bananaman Begins), Monday, 8 January 2018 14:44 (six years ago) link

I mean, the lack of Liam Fox's head rotting on a spike isn't helping either.

Breaking: the reshuffle's big shock - Jeremy Hunt refused a move to BEIS to insist he stay on as Health Sec with a beefed up brief of social care too. https://t.co/9zrScUDg19

gyac, Monday, 8 January 2018 17:10 (six years ago) link

The reshuffle is now in serious trouble. Hunt was supposed to emerge from No10 as the new Business Secretary. Appears Greg Clark has refused to budge.

I wonder which lucky person gets Sec of State for Work and Pensions. Repping for Universal Credit probably isn't much fun, but cheer up you won't last more than 6 months.

it sounds like it is Justine Greening who has knocked back DWP this morning, and she still isn't budging.

calzino, Monday, 8 January 2018 19:37 (six years ago) link

can't believe there are no real Tory MPs out there ready to step up to the plate and kill a few more poor people

not raving but droning (Noodle Vague), Monday, 8 January 2018 19:53 (six years ago) link

Now that we are above Romania in the child food scarcity league, we need someone to build on this momentum.

calzino, Monday, 8 January 2018 20:02 (six years ago) link

child food insecurity, i should have said

calzino, Monday, 8 January 2018 20:05 (six years ago) link

John Redwood is still an MP ffs, surely he'd love a shot at this

Just seen a consignment of Very Strong Kool Aid delivered to no 10, the other batch has stopped working.

calzino, Monday, 8 January 2018 20:22 (six years ago) link

I wonder why no fucker wants to have their name associated with grinding poverty and a mountain of disabled deaths, what kind of Tories are these lily-livered Liberals in disguise?

calzino, Monday, 8 January 2018 20:25 (six years ago) link

Just saw Dennis Wise trending, he could do a job.

calzino, Monday, 8 January 2018 20:31 (six years ago) link

Probably a little too right wing even for this lot.

Matt DC, Monday, 8 January 2018 20:32 (six years ago) link

Esther McVey, yep she's hideous enough and probably a true believer.

calzino, Monday, 8 January 2018 20:34 (six years ago) link

She was deputy to IDS, lest we forget.

kim jong deal (suzy), Monday, 8 January 2018 20:38 (six years ago) link

I wonder if Philippa Forrester ever takes a break from rescuing wild otters to take an envious look at her former co-presenter? Doubt it somehow.

Matt DC, Monday, 8 January 2018 20:40 (six years ago) link

She's in a Tory safe seat, so being the public face of UC + PIP will probably increase her majority.

calzino, Monday, 8 January 2018 20:54 (six years ago) link

lol! that CBBC presenter history of McVey is new to me, I was just slightly too old for that era. I'd like to think Josie Jump is made out of better stuff than her though.

calzino, Monday, 8 January 2018 21:26 (six years ago) link

She was friends with a former colleague who invited us both to a very pissed and stoned barbecue in Mildmay Park c. early/mid β€˜90s.

kim jong deal (suzy), Monday, 8 January 2018 22:09 (six years ago) link

Any of signs of the creature she has become, back then?

calzino, Monday, 8 January 2018 22:11 (six years ago) link

She was a bit Karen Millen sale in terms of style, but not an overt Tory (or even political). OTOH friend who invited her was from deepest milltown Lancashire and very Old Labour, so I doubt they remain friends now.

kim jong deal (suzy), Monday, 8 January 2018 23:35 (six years ago) link

Newsnight just ridiculously irrelevant these days

Didn't expect Young to resign so quickly - how nice! Makes Johnson, May and other apologists look thicker than ever.

nashwan, Tuesday, 9 January 2018 10:19 (six years ago) link

Following his appointment to the OfS, Mr Young deleted up to 40,000 tweets posted since 2009, including references to the size of women's breasts.

i feel like having forty thousand tweets at all should in itself be enough to prevent you from holding a role in government, let alone having to delete that many objectionable ones ffs

pee-wee and the power men (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 9 January 2018 10:51 (six years ago) link

Piers Morgan said Mr Young had been forced out by the "howling Twitter mob".

"I don't defend his more offensive tweets or columns," the Good Morning Britain presenter wrote, "but I do think he would have brought a valuable and distinctive perspective to university education."
