Yeah, it's pretty insane. Each of them make a very nice full-time living from doing two hour-long bs podcasts per week that also serves as great marketing for their standup gigs. I think Nick even does the "production," as it were, himself, which I can't imagine takes more than another few hours a week all-in. At least Chapo pay a separate guy to record and actually do some real editing.

I just wish we had a thread for actual dirtbag leftists instead of Rolling Perpetually Shocked that Amber's Roomate Says Retard

further amber-adjacent shenanigans, this time from some snowflake prof at nyu who needs a safe space

A New York University liberal studies professor known for his tweets fighting back against PC culture filed a defamation lawsuit against the school and four colleagues last week over a string of claims he said were false, the New York Post reported.

Plaintiff Michael Rectenwald's case named the school, associate professor Jacqueline Bishop, adjunct professor Amber Frost, professor Carley Moore and Theresa Senft, whom the Post described as an ex-assistant professor, as defendants.

Rectenwald alleged that a May email thread sent to more than 100 NYU staffers included “malicious” statements -- and that NYU didn’t prevent the “nasty screed,” the Post reported. The emails reportedly called him an “Adderall-filled bully” and “right-wing misogynist,” among other things.

Rectenwald is known for using the Twitter handle @antipcnyuprof and tweeting under the pseudonym “Deplorable NYU Prof.” He came forward in October 2016.

His lawsuit claimed Senft made fun of him in an email to the liberal studies department in May 2017 -- one day after he tweeted about a “deplorable prof”-related advance from a publisher, the Post added.

Bishop, Frost and Moore are among those accused of making disparaging remarks.

Frost allegedly said Rectenwald was a “right-wing misogynist,” while Bishop allegedly claimed Rectenwald arrived at staff meetings “high and incoherent with your tongue sticking out the side of your mouth.”

“It’s very painful to be accused of things that you haven’t done and have no basis in fact,” Rectenwald told the newspaper.

A NYU spokesman told the Post, “This lawsuit is without merit.”

The university and the other defendants did not immediately respond to Fox News' requests for comment.

btw, if you want a really promising up-and-coming young berniecrat to support, I also recommend Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, running for the house in NY-14. Current holder is a shithead machine dem and there's not going to be a serious republican challenger so the primary is the race.

Benjamin L. Cardin, apparently. An amusing wrinkle:

I'm not sure what 'dirtbag' means in this context. Can someone define it?

Leaghaidh am brón an t-anam bochd (dowd), Tuesday, 16 January 2018 17:49 (six years ago) link

having your mattress directly on the ground

global tetrahedron, Tuesday, 16 January 2018 17:53 (six years ago) link

A more precise label might be the Dirtbag Left, a term coined by the writer Amber A’Lee Frost, who is Biederman’s roommate, and who, this week, officially joined the “Chapo” roster. In an essay for Current Affairs, Frost argued that while vulgarity isn’t “inherently subversive,” it can help tarnish the unearned prestige of the powerful—something that many Democrats, as well as Republicans, hunger to do. We can either “reclaim vulgarity from the Trumps of the world,” she wrote, or “find ourselves handicapped by civility.”

“Chapo Trap House” has embraced this mission. “If you sleep on a mattress on the floor and fuck in a sleeping bag, then you just might be the dirtbag left!” Menaker told Paste. “If you’re the only dude at a function not wearing a pocket square in a linen blazer and adulting like a boss, then you’re in the dirtbag left!” People who belong to the Dirtbag Left, Christman said, aren’t afraid “to offend the sensibilities of ‘leftist’ language police whose only goal is sabotaging social solidarity in order to maintain their brands as arbiters of good taste and acceptable speech.”

https://www.currentaffairs.org/2016/05/the-necessity-of-political-vulgarity

this is the Amber essay referred to.

That language police line set the stage for a lot of the cliches about them, I think, when Amber's essay is more on the mark. It's not a "why can they say it" response to language policing but reveling in cheering on John McCain's brain tumor.

louise ck (milo z), Tuesday, 16 January 2018 17:56 (six years ago) link

You have to apply a sense of leniency considering the terrible ordeal she’s been through but Manning’s politics tweets are reliably among the dumbest version of any “both sides are the same” thing you’ve ever heard. She’s obviously not part of any “Russian plot” or whatever but her defining role in the discourse has been as an almost uniformly “anti anti Trump” voice which obviously resonates with some.

Nerdstrom Poindexter, Tuesday, 16 January 2018 19:08 (six years ago) link

which tweets did you have in mind

Simon H., Tuesday, 16 January 2018 19:09 (six years ago) link

I think the difference between what Amber advocates and what, say, the alt-right does is that, at least in theory, the "dirtbag left" types are arguing that "civility" is a barrier to effective political discourse and action, and therefore we should ignore it when necessary, whereas the alt right is specifically interested in tearing down civility so they can be more racist, sexist, etc., because that's their agenda.

No I’ve criticized Dems.

I get that she’s trying to own one of the worst people who had ever lived here but this is downplaying racism in a kind of gross way.

IF (Terrorist) Yes, Explain (man alive), Tuesday, 16 January 2018 19:33 (six years ago) link

you seem to be going out of your way to read a pretty obvious criticism of a platitudinous hillary tweet as ‘downplaying racism’

the second one seems, again, like a legit criticism of surveillance-state hypocrisy from chelsea’s own fairly unique perspective
