Trixie’s autoharp was truly magical, I could watch her all day

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 27 January 2018 04:17 (six years ago) link

My top 3 this episode was Kennedy, Shange, and Ben.

I wanted to see what the fuss about Morgan was, since she was getting hyped so much by the other contestants. Ah well, we'll have to wait till the episode where she comes back.

Also I wonder what the Handmaids are setting up there.

That ending was creepy!

Joanna NEU!some (Leee), Saturday, 27 January 2018 19:51 (six years ago) link

One of them looked like Detox.

Tarr Yang Preminger Argento Carpenter (Eric H.), Saturday, 27 January 2018 20:04 (six years ago) link

Leee you gotta watch S2!

The thing I love about Morgan is that she’s plainspoken & genuine: as far as her personality goes, there’s no act. AND: Her drag mom is Chad Michaels! she came up in Scotland, which means she doesnt have a thick skin so much as a suit of armor. Bitch is tough with a capital T. I was looking forward to her squaring off against some of the queens in Untucked.

i hope she gets a redemption

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 27 January 2018 20:51 (six years ago) link

LOL I *have* seen season 2, but it seemed like she was there for a cup of coffee and I don't have much memory of her besides the argument she had with Mystique.

the cold open was really funny

J0rdan S., Sunday, 28 January 2018 08:04 (six years ago) link

yeah i liked it

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 28 January 2018 15:34 (six years ago) link

Veg, thinking some more, the way you describe MM actually reminds me of Trinity Taylor, in terms of bluntness.

Joanna NEU!some (Leee), Sunday, 28 January 2018 21:25 (six years ago) link

Yeah actually that’s not a bad parallel

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 28 January 2018 22:06 (six years ago) link

I really liked the episode, although it was not as surprising as the first episode of AS2 since we know the concept of the lipsynch for your legacy and the returning queen now.

I was sad to see Morgan leave so early, but I understand Dela's reasoning. I felt like something was off with Chi Chi's energy, and not just in her performance. Maybe she was feeling intimidated by the all stars.

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 28 January 2018 22:40 (six years ago) link

There is a part of me that would ~love~ Bebe to crush it and win the whole thing. I mean, shit, I loved Violet but if that bitch could win a whole season from looking good just standing still then Bebe obviously got this on lock. But idk if she has the versatility to pull of these all stars challenges. It’ll be interesting.

But my secret dream is for Trixie to blow the doors off. She’s got secret godzilla powers.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 29 January 2018 02:28 (six years ago) link

Ben vs. Trixie seems to be what everyone expects this season to boil down to. Cool, but if Trixie takes it and Katya just missed it last season, it'll sting.

Tarr Yang Preminger Argento Carpenter (Eric H.), Monday, 29 January 2018 02:44 (six years ago) link

my final Morgan thing: I love listening to him talk bcz you occasionally get little bits & pieces of Scottish in his American accent & i luv it

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 29 January 2018 05:42 (six years ago) link

I'll have to listen for that more closely!

In ancillary news, Ross Mathews is going on Celebrity Big Brother along with...Omarosa? Uh, have fun over there.

Anyway: last night's sashay victim was kinda telegraphed. But even so.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 2 February 2018 20:05 (six years ago) link

And WHAT was with Milk's weird breakdown there.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 2 February 2018 20:08 (six years ago) link

I loved the Divas challenge, and unlike Thorgy I thought the assignments were all pretty good on paper.
Thorgy's whole 'Stevie Nicks is not a gay icon" whine was so weird and offbase. Alaska was doing an AMAZING Stevie thing a couple of years back (I can't remember if it was a show or just a few songs) but GIRL COME ON.
And honestly Thorgy's Stevie wasn't ~bad~. It was just a little bit too normcore, like me in my bedroom being Stevie, minus the whole part where you're meant to be SELLING it to an audience/judges. ie Mugging.
And it's true that Bebe didn't have to do a whole lot to convey Diana, but the choices she made were pretty on-point.
Milk's Celine was mostly hurt by the outfit. And her big melodrama about wanting to be a top look is just her trying to grab more camera time, I honestly do not believe that was genuine. Or she's just HELLA needy all of a sudden.

I think if you were going solely off judging then either of them could have gone home this week, Thorgy's attitude with the judges really did not do her any favors and makes her look like a liability.
Real talk though: Kennedy's performance was unforgivable for someone who has made their drag name as a capital D Dancer.
Like if you are a Dancer and you can't bring Janet to the party then should you really BE at this party? And complaining about being freestyle vs choreography is fine but she has been on this show before, she knew that a challenge LIKE this would be part of the show because it always is so quit making excuses and step up. She's just so set in her ways it's really annoying that she can't embrace the challenges more sometimes.
I don't see her getting to the top 3 with so much hardcore competition this time around. And if she does, her reputation and friendships are going to be what gets her through.

But I'm not much of a Thorgy fan at all, in the context of the show. I don't think competing on these kinds of shows is a good showcase for her strengths as a drag queen, because it brings out a lot of negative qualities in her that work against her success.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 2 February 2018 23:06 (six years ago) link

This Whatcha Packin interview puts Thorgy into context, ie the show brings out all of her worst neuroses
And I can kinda relate because in situations where I know I'm being judged I spiral into INSANE self sabotage
http://www.vh1.com/video-clips/2dl344/rupauls-drag-race-all-stars-whatcha-packin-season-3-episode-2-divas-lip-sync-live

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 2 February 2018 23:14 (six years ago) link

I like Thorgy just for her weirdness, and not having that on the show is a shame. The hypercritical self-consciousness, not so much.

Chi Chi's judging was REALLY weird. None of the judges critiqued her Patti, and the only negative things were that she should take off her jacket, and that her dress was basic.

I wonder about the wisdom of ShangeLLa proposing mutual bone throwing to both Thorgy and Kennedy, since one of them is being quasi-eliminated and has a chance to come back from limbo later in the competition.

Ben's LSFYL was genius, but that can only be a one-time thing.

Joanna NEU!some (Leee), Saturday, 3 February 2018 05:53 (six years ago) link

ChiChi’s runway wig was terrible too, it wasnt just the dress being kinda basic

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 3 February 2018 06:15 (six years ago) link

chi chi is one of my fav queens but her taste is a little dodgy

J0rdan S., Saturday, 3 February 2018 19:54 (six years ago) link

agree

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 3 February 2018 21:53 (six years ago) link

Dodgy is a nice way to put it tbh, but I am in her corner the same way I was in Stacy Lane Matthews' corner.

Tarr Yang Preminger Argento Carpenter (Eric H.), Saturday, 3 February 2018 22:12 (six years ago) link

i feel that

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 4 February 2018 00:12 (six years ago) link

I thought the challenge was a little bit disapointing after last year's great Herstory of the World and it had mostly to do with the material. Using RuPaul songs was kind of lazy on the writer's part imo. They could have done so much with these divas and as a matter of fact, the queen who didn't get a RuPaul song to perform had the best part. Although I have to give a shout out to whoever did the vocals cause they nailed everyone.

I thought Chi Chi's Patty Labelle was perfect and I don't know what the side eyes and embarassed smiles from the judges were about during Thorgy's number. I'm not sure why she was complaining about getting Stevie Nicks though, since she's a huge fan and it's obvious they chose the best divas to fit each queen. I agree with VG that her excuses on the runway probably helped her land in the bottom. I'm enjoying that there is still no real elimination strategy consensus among the queens so far.

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 4 February 2018 00:41 (six years ago) link

yeah it’s better when it’s a free for all

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 4 February 2018 01:27 (six years ago) link

This is playing on Comedy Central in the UK, and not only do we have to have five ad breaks per episode, but last night they put one of those ad breaks right in the middle of the diva routine. Like, just as Aja was being dragged around on a chair. FFS.

I sort of missed Trixie this episode. I feel like she's being overshadowed a little bit.

trishyb, Sunday, 4 February 2018 16:48 (six years ago) link

We do get a fair bit of her as a talking head though, where she's been delivering the lulz pretty consistently.

Joanna NEU!some (Leee), Sunday, 4 February 2018 16:52 (six years ago) link

Speaking of the UK, I hear Courtney Act won Celebrity Big Brother.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 4 February 2018 17:11 (six years ago) link

I was watching Fashion Photo RuView w Raven & Mariah talking about Trixie’s Dolly look
Raven said “when I think of Dolly I do not think of a jumpsuit” and I nearly threw my phone out the window. Bitch Dolly literally LIVED in a jumpsuit throughout the late 70’s and 80’s. The Dolly Parton BARBIE came with a red jumpsuit
i know they are shady & boot queens they don’t like and I know Raven is not a Trixie fan bcz she hates her makeup. but it still bugged me lol

But: on the upside Mariah said Milk’s Celine Dion outfit looked like Chyna from WWE and I died. BEST BURN.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 4 February 2018 20:58 (six years ago) link

Raven's makeup looked about as blended as Trixie's in that episode.

tokyo rosemary, Sunday, 4 February 2018 21:21 (six years ago) link

Raven doesn't boot fair, and she knows it. And that's kind of part of the appeal I gather. That segment only works for me when Raja's there, not caring.

Tarr Yang Preminger Argento Carpenter (Eric H.), Sunday, 4 February 2018 21:22 (six years ago) link

yeah I don’t like it as much without Raja. They have good chemistry.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 4 February 2018 22:02 (six years ago) link

I also thought Raven didn't like Trixie, but she said 2 episodes ago that her makeup was always great and that she did one of the best makeup jobs out of all the queens from Drag Race because it's extreme but always blended. I think her comment about the jumpsuit was more ignorant than shady.

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 4 February 2018 22:23 (six years ago) link

Also I could totally see Mariah Carey wearing that fringed bathing suit. It didn't have to be an exact replica of something she's worn.

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 4 February 2018 22:26 (six years ago) link

next week is the crossover episode with America's Next Top Model and I am TOO EXCITED
