Hey, there's one I voted for

Moodles, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 21:52 (six years ago) link

43 JUTE GYTE "OVIRI"

gman59, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 21:53 (six years ago) link

err 41. fucked that up. carry on

gman59, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 21:53 (six years ago) link

This was a big step up from Honeymoon, which was a snooze fest.

Moodles, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 21:54 (six years ago) link

jute del gyte aren't making it this year; i have ordained it

is this up there with the better moments of idk ultraviolence? is it a completely different thing? i have not-too-bad recollections of songs from this one, but no lasting impressions. LIKE PASSING ZEPHYRS

imago, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 21:54 (six years ago) link

Lana Del Rey is so consistent on here.

2014 40 LANA DEL REY Ultraviolence [390 points, 11 votes, 1 first place vote]
2015 36 LANA DEL REY Honeymoon (405 points, 13 votes)
2017 42 LANA DEL REY "Lust For Life" (286 points, 13 votes)

This and Honeymoon are in dire need of edits but she's been in a great little songwriting pocket for a while.

Simon H., Tuesday, 30 January 2018 21:55 (six years ago) link

I think Ultraviolence is her only great album, but this one is probably her second best.

silverfish, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 21:59 (six years ago) link

Ultraviolence has stronger songs, but this has fewer cringe-worthy lyrics.

OK this mono no aware thing was not what I was expecting at all. Sounding good though. Where was this talked about on ILM?

hey i still put it in my top 10!!!

imago, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 22:04 (six years ago) link

The cringiness of Lana Del Rey's lyrics are part of the appeal I think

xxp

silverfish, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 22:05 (six years ago) link

Wholly forgettable album. The first of hers that feels that way actually. It's not bad, I just literally keep forgetting it exists.

xps hmm i think we discussed it? maybe one of the sub experimental time travel threads?

nxd, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 22:08 (six years ago) link

mono no aware that is

nxd, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 22:08 (six years ago) link

LDR is good

mono no aware much better than most 2017 gloopy ambient shite

brimstead, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 22:09 (six years ago) link

mono no aware is a nice sampler of artists on the Pan label, which has had an amazing run, and it is also a well-sequenced, satisfying album on its own

Dan S, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 22:12 (six years ago) link

bill compiled it for some book fair

really funny thing would have been a fake spotify link as well

imago, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 22:16 (six years ago) link

Are there 8 ilxors who liked this? Not openly, at least.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 22:16 (six years ago) link

It's weird how in my old age I don't really hate U2 anymore. If one of their songs comes on the radio I don't change the station.

now let's get to the real #41.

silverfish, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 22:20 (six years ago) link

*i* like it

i would be stunned if anyone else voted for it (I put it at #25)

omar little, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 22:20 (six years ago) link

hehehe

nxd, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 22:21 (six years ago) link

It's weird how in my old age I don't really hate U2 anymore.

I was a superfan in my youth, so maybe I'm *extra* critical of the slop they make now.
