i nominated this but didnt vote for it lol, glad it didnt need my help
I thought that might have gotten 78'd. a cool and overwhelming record I need to listen to more
― Simon H., Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:17 (six years ago) link
overwhelming is otm
― gr8080, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:17 (six years ago) link
(so is cool)
Four word description anyone?
― ♫ very clever with maracas.jpg ♫ (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:17 (six years ago) link
had absolutely no idea what to make of this one
― ufo, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:19 (six years ago) link
four words not enough
― gr8080, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:19 (six years ago) link
xps dense, busy, abstract soundsculptures
― sleeve, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:20 (six years ago) link
I did not really dig it based on my cursory nomination-phase listening but am willing to try again
ty sleeve, and gr80 for adding it's more than that. will check it out.

Is it *kinda* like Lee Gamble? Suppose he won't show up, sadly.
wait actually I like that 45:33 thing as well, sorry all
― brimstead, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:22 (six years ago) link
snippets from blurb in The Wire: “fully immersive sonic fiction…..blending electronics, noise, rock and R&B…..envisioned a near future in which the collapse of global empires necessitates the search for Utopia.”
― Dan S, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:22 (six years ago) link
lol I was trying to find a way to get "enjoy your subscription to The Wire" down to four words
― rob, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:23 (six years ago) link
haha
― sleeve, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:24 (six years ago) link
"music for Wire readers" also otm
it's really not like Lee Gamble, more like The Bug's London Zoo maybe? I saw a desciption somewhere that put it on the hauntology spectrum, which seems off the mark to me. anyway I liked it but didn't listen to it enough to get a handle on it, and didn't end up voting for it
― Dan S, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:28 (six years ago) link
lol yeah @ Wire Subscription Music
― gr8080, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:30 (six years ago) link
Isn't wire mostly bowl scraping and contact mics? Electronics for wire readers more apt
― brimstead, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:31 (six years ago) link
lol Rob
I'll take a comparison to London Zoo!
― ♫ very clever with maracas.jpg ♫ (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:31 (six years ago) link
too industrial for me
― ? (seandalai), Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:31 (six years ago) link
xp not nearly as catchy (to me) as London Zoo, and not focused on dancehall, more NON Worldwide Radio roots
― Dan S, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:35 (six years ago) link
Spoken word is a bit of an insurmountable obstacle for me, alas (I tend to experience music as an escape from the hegemony of language) but I agree that Paradiso is overwhelming.
― pomenitul, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:36 (six years ago) link
Some weird shit, not my cup of tea, i don't like waiting for the music to start and it never does. Like waiting for godot.
― Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:39 (six years ago) link
But Waiting for Godot is awesome.
― pomenitul, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:41 (six years ago) link
"haley" -> "mary" on the big thief record is devastating sequencing imo
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:42 (six years ago) link
i don't like waiting for the music to start and it never does.
i feel this way about some visible cloaks stuff but i like it
― brimstead, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:42 (six years ago) link
SWEET Paradiso made it! Highest thing on my ballot that will place!

Such a great, moving album.
― ♫ very clever with maracas.jpg ♫ (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:47 (six years ago) link
I listened to it for the first time this morning and really enjoyed it.
― pomenitul, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:49 (six years ago) link
another one I was worried wasn't gonna make it. "I Live Now As A Singer" kills me
― Simon H., Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:55 (six years ago) link
I hope Chelsea Wolfe will make it.
― pomenitul, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:57 (six years ago) link
That's some nice fragile hippie stuff. Reminds a little of vashti bunyan.
― Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:57 (six years ago) link
Nice fragile hippie stuff is about right. Could not get into it at all. Do you all live out in the country in giant mansions and play these albums on your porch stereo?
― _Rudipherous_, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:58 (six years ago) link
No but I do occasionally fantasize about being in a beautiful place out in the country.
― pomenitul, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 21:00 (six years ago) link
I live in a basement and play these albums in the dark lol
― Simon H., Wednesday, 31 January 2018 21:00 (six years ago) link
that seems like it would work really well
― sleeve, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 21:04 (six years ago) link
sooo are Girlpool not going to place? I know there's a few of us who stan for them here but I can't imagine them getting this high up.
― josh az (2011nostalgia), Wednesday, 31 January 2018 21:04 (six years ago) link
this was really enjoyable but i haven't spent enough time with it yet, might have voted for it if i'd heard it sooner
― ufo, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 21:04 (six years ago) link
I was the no. 1 voter for this. Played it once in January, slept on it all year, rediscovered in November and pretty much curled up inside it and have not really emerged since. Diaphanousness. And it is a perfect length.
― technopolis, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 21:08 (six years ago) link
like a more succulent version of the first Tracey Thorn solo album
