*ever, even

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:11 (six years ago) link

it's the pulsing and seething energy lurking within all things but particularly within trees

ogmor, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:11 (six years ago) link

scroot scroot is so charming

ogmor, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:13 (six years ago) link

the Tim eFfect!

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:14 (six years ago) link

scroot scroot sounds like some sort of slim gaillard vout-o-reenee mcvouty language

faust apes (NickB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:14 (six years ago) link

big for your scroots

nashwan, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:15 (six years ago) link

wait where's 16?

ufo, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:16 (six years ago) link

16 was U2

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:17 (six years ago) link

ruh roh

faust apes (NickB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:20 (six years ago) link

Voted for both of these.

Narkopop has been hugely influential on the way I think about making music (as a noodling bedroom producer). It’s a beautiful record.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:21 (six years ago) link

This is one of the few consistently excellent house albums around. Feels like her masterpiece

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:22 (six years ago) link

oh shit guys sorry

gr8080, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:23 (six years ago) link

gonna be a few before I can get #16 out

gr8080, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:23 (six years ago) link

wait is imago "minimalism" anything that doesn't have 25 time signatures and a washboard solo every track?

bizarrer Gandhara (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:24 (six years ago) link

I was expecting Culture to be slightly higher. It is a front-to-back great album (apart from the DJ Khaled intro which suuuuuucks

spotify

gr8080, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:32 (six years ago) link

Have to admit, I never really understood the GAS albums from back in the day.

Badgers (dog latin), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:33 (six years ago) link

was better missing it out. *yawn*

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:33 (six years ago) link

OHGODWHYDOYOULOTINSISTONVOTINGFORTHEXX???

Badgers (dog latin), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:33 (six years ago) link

I said I expected GAS to be minimalist but there's quite a lot of textural detail, feels like you're all itching for a pile-on in the wake of scrootgate

however, as the gloves are off: the xx are proper shit

imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:33 (six years ago) link

the XX album is fine but I didn't go back to it much

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:34 (six years ago) link

to their credit, they actually did switch up their sound for this one. but yeah, i never felt compelled to listen to it

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:35 (six years ago) link

My favorite of theirs, oddly enough.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:37 (six years ago) link

however, as the gloves are off: the xx are proper shit

this is entirely plausible, I've got no idea

bizarrer Gandhara (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:37 (six years ago) link

another good album from them - Say Something Loving and Replica are two of their very best songs and they successfully opened up their sound. it's a really nice summer album

ufo, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:39 (six years ago) link

Can we go yay Octo Octa yet or do we have to wait for gr8080 to repost it?

anyhoo: yay

Jeff W, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:40 (six years ago) link

It was actually lex rather than Tim who tipped me off to her

Jeff W, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:41 (six years ago) link

Loved that album. Their concert at Roskilde this summer was stunning. Still don't get why they don't have legions of copycats.

Frederik B, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:41 (six years ago) link

and it's structured so well, there's a clear emotional narrative in the way the invitingly open first half accumulates, melancholy toppling over into anxious joy (joyous anxiety?) w the mariah carey sample, and then digs a tunnel w the groove until returning full circle, changed, in "pt. 2"

sophistipop 2 (stritram), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:43 (six years ago) link

still love romy's singing and the very direct and simple way it conveys romantic yearning, but whatsisface has got the worst voice in pop since that guy in the lighthouse family and has all the affecting pathos of a dirty sock

faust apes (NickB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:46 (six years ago) link

Octo Octa is a great album I did not spend enough time with last year

ufo, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:48 (six years ago) link

the front cover of that album is exactly what i think of The XX. Sort of reflective, blurry and nothingy - going for high-concept but also being a bit 'so what'

Badgers (dog latin), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:50 (six years ago) link

OO seems like decent house, not that I know what decent house is at this point

imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:51 (six years ago) link

Been listening to the Octo Octa from the tracks poll a lot this week. Will definitely check out the album.

silverfish, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:53 (six years ago) link

GAS <3

Inexplicable that XX placed this high imo. Isn't it a weak copy of the record before this one?

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:55 (six years ago) link

'fleeting moments of freedom' is fun!

imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:55 (six years ago) link

There it is.

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 1 February 2018 15:01 (six years ago) link

I liked Ears. I listened to this once but through my phone speaker while playing Earthbound. It sounded nice. Like Ears but with more words

Badgers (dog latin), Thursday, 1 February 2018 15:02 (six years ago) link

scroot scroot

imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 15:02 (six years ago) link

it's not as good as the Earthbound soundtrack

ciderpress, Thursday, 1 February 2018 15:03 (six years ago) link

this won't make sense to anyone else but this album sounds like the music they had in the lego bionicle flash animations (not a bad thing)

ufo, Thursday, 1 February 2018 15:04 (six years ago) link

Don't think I heard this yet but would def have voted for it anyway

scrüt (wins), Thursday, 1 February 2018 15:04 (six years ago) link

not a lot is better than the Earthbound soundtrack
