also i didn't really expect any of my metal picks to make it but i encourage everyone to check out godflesh's post self, especially imago if he hasn't yet

I think this is the first time I've realized that "Kelela" and "Kehlani" are different artists b/c I've always read their names in separate contexts and my brain is always like "oh yeah, it's that name with the k and e and l" and filed it under the same artist

(the blues version in his Broadway show) (crüt), Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:26 (six years ago) link

Aye, looks like if anyone wants to find out about metal albums they missed they will need to wait until next weeks poll results. I really thought Chelsea Wolfe would make it but she wont be this high.

xp

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:26 (six years ago) link

cheers Brad, will do!

As has been intimated, there's another Kel- coming up...

imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:28 (six years ago) link

Kehlani album is great, haven't listened to Kelela as yet, was made wary by odd comments that made it sound "genre-breaking" god forbid

bizarrer Gandhara (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:28 (six years ago) link

Nah Kelela is such a smooth ride; no need to think abt genre-breaking stuff. It's such a lush trip.

I'm surprised more people who vote in this poll dont vote in metal poll considering the amount of non-metal (we're very loose on definitions) we have nominated.

Why not vote? https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfhF7fGiZ0O7Vy2U6BZ-RCI7Z3MWjFjigtvDzi6JQo6UjOOqA/viewform

Haha! This pleases me greatly

Just to backtrack a little, I don't get the love for Octo Octa's LP. I found it to be mildly enjoyable, often kind of bland.

And where's Dauwd ? Or Chloé?

I'm glad Octo Octa placed. I'd been into "Fleeting Moments of Freedom" for a while this year and eventually discovered the whole album.

Sadly, Dauwd never really caught on here. It was my #2. I can see how people might find it bland, but I'd rather call it subtle. It's very quiet, in a sense. It definitely doesn't feel as connected to the dance floor as Octo Octa, which is often a minus for me, but wasn't in this case. I think it should be listened to in the context of older German electronic music, Krautrock, and even Robert Ashley.

Why not vote?

Can't imagine the metal massive is waiting on a 5 album ballot that consists of Jute Gyte and four others, which is why I'm staying away from yr fine poll.

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:38 (six years ago) link

this was such a huge improvement over her debut

ufo, Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:38 (six years ago) link

(I'm also somewhat of a sucker for hearing something fresh that was partly done with analogue synths.)

_Rudipherous_, Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:39 (six years ago) link

absolutely. I went from not caring about her at all to being a fan.

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:39 (six years ago) link

lbi why? last year we had people voting only for 1 album. There's no minimum voting. If people looked at the nominations it might just surprise them how much is nominated that they actually like or might like if they gave it a listen.

there's a playlist too https://open.spotify.com/user/pfunkboy/playlist/74IL7uL4YEy2tTiBYtRJ4G?si=hJod2droSOmYU0iRtDnmcA

But we're the greatest, they'll vote for us in the ILM Poll
Slightly miss the top ten, but who cares, still the ILM Poll

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:41 (six years ago) link

Well, that was enough to add Dauwd to my "to listen to" pile. xxxp

Jeff W, Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:41 (six years ago) link

(Still thinking about Dauwd: Macadam Therapy is a weak opening track for the album, too.)

_Rudipherous_, Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:42 (six years ago) link

ANYONE can take part. Have a look at the noms and see what you like

Agree with everyone saying the Lorde album is a big improvement over th e first. I really wasn't expecting much from her, but this album is fantastic from front to back. Not unlike The xx, she benefited greatly from adding a bit of extra energy to her songs.

Moodles, Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:47 (six years ago) link

The Dauwd album isn't in the list because it's completely generic and forgettable.

Matt DC, Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:48 (six years ago) link

Is the poll finishing today?

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 1 February 2018 16:48 (six years ago) link

Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:09 (six years ago) link

I maintain this is the best Paramore album

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:09 (six years ago) link

Cool, will listen

imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:11 (six years ago) link

Lorde and Paramore adjacent = very appropriate. They are both in the 70s on my EOY list, solid albums boosted by half a dozen very good songs.
