the man from P.O.R.L.O.C.K. (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:09 (six years ago) link

Too low! My #1, it wasn't even close.

Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:09 (six years ago) link

I maintain this is the best Paramore album

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:09 (six years ago) link

this falls off a little in the last third but the highs are so high. pool is the best

ufo, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:09 (six years ago) link

my favorite is still the s/t and may be forever but after laughter is completely great

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:09 (six years ago) link

Is the whole album as good as Hard Times then?

imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:10 (six years ago) link

nearly all of it is

ufo, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:10 (six years ago) link

hearing "told you so" for the first time was like... maybe my favorite musical experience of the year

basically yes

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:10 (six years ago) link

Cool, will listen

imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:11 (six years ago) link

Lorde and Paramore adjacent = very appropriate. They are both in the 70s on my EOY list, solid albums boosted by half a dozen very good songs.

Jeff W, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:11 (six years ago) link

(You've convinced me Kerr and Drugs A!)

basically no

faust apes (NickB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:11 (six years ago) link

Forgiveness is so great also, the subtle rhythmic shift from the verse to chorus gets me every time

ufo, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:12 (six years ago) link

fake happy <3

nxd, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:13 (six years ago) link

After Laughter was my number one. A perfect album!

kitchen person, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:14 (six years ago) link

"rose-colored boy" and "tell me how" are my favs. chorus on "rose-colored" is super scritti politti imo though i say this about everything i like

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:14 (six years ago) link

I didn't really like Paramore before this, but the new album is fun. Apparently it was a big flop, which is unfortunate. Lots of very catchy tunes, but I don't always love her Katy Perry-esque habit of overenunciating everything.

Moodles, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:15 (six years ago) link

My favorite track is actually from late in the album: Caught in the Middle. I also admire the way Idle Worship successfully manages to have very Christian lyrics in a mainstream pop setting. Puritan poet Edward Taylor might have appreciated some of the humor.

_Rudipherous_, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:18 (six years ago) link

listening to this for the first time now, it's really nice!

Dan S, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:29 (six years ago) link

I probably listened to "Tell Me How" the most often on account of having it on loop during late-night walks

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:29 (six years ago) link

The Dauwd album isn't in the list because it's completely generic and forgettable.

Suit yourself/yourselves. I'll take it over Octo Octa any day.

That GIF is syncing with Tornado Wallace so well rn

nashwan, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:32 (six years ago) link

Two more I thought would be here by now but probably ex-77: Stormzy and Ariel Pink (given the number of tracks nominated)

nashwan, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:33 (six years ago) link

btw: as with the singles, i'll add the top 177 albums to the playlist mix as soon as the top ten are revealed

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:36 (six years ago) link

I don't remember if I ever listened to all of this (like quite a few of these winners).

_Rudipherous_, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:46 (six years ago) link

(Where is everybody? What time is it everywhere else?)

what year is this?

Heavy Messages (jed_), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:50 (six years ago) link

Kelly's album has the finest production this year front to back imo

kolakube (Ross), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:50 (six years ago) link

great album, wasn't expecting it to get so high. has the same feeling as Visions

ufo, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:51 (six years ago) link

didn’t really enjoy this one at all iirc

faust apes (NickB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:52 (six years ago) link

I wanted to like this album more than I did. Lucid was the big standout for me. Nothing else quite hit me the same way.

it's one of those albums that i'm crazy about when listening, but a few times too often, i had to listen again just to remind myself how the songs go

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:53 (six years ago) link

srsly, what was octo octa thinking with that album cover?

Heavy Messages (jed_), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:54 (six years ago) link

the cover is good imo

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:54 (six years ago) link

Yeah love this and voted for it, didn't expect to see it top 10 mind

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:56 (six years ago) link

What's wrong with the octo octa cover?

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:56 (six years ago) link

S.O is the highlight for me

and i agree the Octo Octa album cover is good

ufo, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:57 (six years ago) link

Kelly Lee Owens album is fantastic. Sonically, it would be fitting if Slowdive is up next.
