― scoff walker (diamonddave85), Thursday, 1 February 2018 18:57 (six years ago) link
@brad let's make sure the emo goon cru rides this hard for something next year lol
― Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 18:57 (six years ago) link
I'm so confused, the fakeouts this year have been so real that reality itself has lost all meaning.
― Moodles, Thursday, 1 February 2018 18:57 (six years ago) link
shite cover, solid record
― faust apes (NickB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 18:57 (six years ago) link
I would just like to point out that I was OTM in this thread.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 1 February 2018 18:57 (six years ago) link

6 number ones, damn y'all are devoted to this guy
― hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:00 (six years ago) link
in awe of these farty horns in the first track
― scoff walker (diamonddave85), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:00 (six years ago) link
6 #1 votes is pretty ridic though, I'm sure other albums have topped the poll with fewer.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:00 (six years ago) link
3 was the highest before this
― Heavy Messages (jed_), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:01 (six years ago) link
i mean, in this poll.
metal cru need to do better too
― Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:01 (six years ago) link
i like the richard dawson stuff, reminds me of Shirley (and Dolly) Collins in places.
― omar little, Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:02 (six years ago) link
Ok did not expect this any more but <3 u ilm
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:04 (six years ago) link
I enjoyed Peasant a lot throughout the year but it resonated with me most on the first listen, wandering through an eerily quiet and unfamiliar part of town on a pleasant summer morning (this was before the point I got lost in some overgrown woods near the five-a-side football centre while trying to find a way onto the canal towpath - that stretch of the journey was soundtracked by Life's Rich Pageant).
― Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:05 (six years ago) link
track two sounds like akron familie fronted by the world's angriest guitar player
(it's not bad though, i'm going to spend more time with the album and stop zinging it)
― scoff walker (diamonddave85), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:08 (six years ago) link
6 number ones is pretty impressive
― josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:08 (six years ago) link
the only thing i've ever heard was "the vile stuff," which was impressive, but in such an OTT way that i didn't seek out his other stuff
― hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:09 (six years ago) link
it hard to find good points comparison tbh but I did find myself thinking about a more benign comus and also sometimes gorkys at their most folksy (mainly for the rustic choiry singalong bits)
― faust apes (NickB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:09 (six years ago) link
i wonder if there's a 'richarddawsonfan' like there's a 'taytayfan'?
― Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:10 (six years ago) link
Agree with both of those NickB.

Can only speak for myself but it was almost 7

It would have had 7 if I voted.

I first heard Ogre while walking through a rural setting and I was all but running into the trees at the joy of it. Then the rest of the album came and it was everything I wanted and more - Dawson applying his unearthly talents to melodically twisty psych-pop, with a weird little band making all sorts of noise behind him. And every track is so beautiful. I think he's one of the greats already
― imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:13 (six years ago) link
Every track is seared into my brain. Even the little ones like Prostitute feel like the earth spinning
― imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:14 (six years ago) link
He has infinite command of narrative
OK that'll do for now
― imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:15 (six years ago) link
Missing Lex' reflection on albums like these :)
― Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:15 (six years ago) link
truly think a lot of dawson sceptics would be won over by him live, go see him if you get the chance
― faust apes (NickB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:15 (six years ago) link
ok yeah that too
― imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:16 (six years ago) link
excited for dawson to make a synthpop album in 2020 and finally unite all of ilm

Psych folk is really not my thing but this thread has got me really curious about this record
― josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:19 (six years ago) link
I liked his song from the tracks list, but hadn't heard of him prior. Didn't realize he was so beloved here.
― Moodles, Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:19 (six years ago) link
a Dawson synth pop LP will sound like Kaputt and divide ILX more deeply than ever
