haha wow, a landslide

monotony, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:12 (six years ago) link

oooooh nice

call all destroyer, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:12 (six years ago) link

if susanne had actually pulled it off it would have been our weirdest album winner ever imo

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:12 (six years ago) link

Damn.

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:13 (six years ago) link

so the Sundfor album huh

The single was such a snooze I didn't bother.

you should bother although potentially you would think the whole album is composed of snoozers

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:13 (six years ago) link

Amazing!

cajunsunday, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:13 (six years ago) link

Where'd the gif go?!

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:13 (six years ago) link

The single was such a snooze I didn't bother.

This music for people in trouble, it's not for everyone. It's a motherfucking vibe.

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:13 (six years ago) link

thanks as always everyone, this was great, and i usually find the albums rollout kinda boring compared to the tracks

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:14 (six years ago) link

lmao simon

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:14 (six years ago) link

Ha, nice gif! Had no idea people had rallied around the Sundfør album aside from "Undercover". The SZA felt more of an event than either of these, but they have the weight of their past few albums behind them.

etc, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:15 (six years ago) link

gr8080 this was your finest hour, excellent job on the mid poll fakeout as opposed to the poll ending fakeout.

omar little, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:15 (six years ago) link

Kinda expected Father John Misty to be a fake #1 in lieu of all the rockist comments

josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:15 (six years ago) link

yeah thanks again to gr80 and all the other poll runners

Simon H., Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:15 (six years ago) link

kind of hilarious to think of these two titles together

rob, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:15 (six years ago) link

i think the Kendrick album felt like an even bigger "event" than TPAB but ymmv.

omar little, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:15 (six years ago) link

Some of the songs/melodies on this Susanne Sundfør record have a real primordial feel. Not talking about John Grant's chanting either, just the songs. Earthy, thunderous in all its surface 'low-key'-ness. Coming back to the album is really an emotional experience. It's also of perfect length, always making you curious enough to listen to the end. She's still the best melody writer in the world, maybe best singer.

abcfsk, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:16 (six years ago) link

I was expecting a fake #1 to just be all those unreleased Prince tracks.

MarkoP, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:16 (six years ago) link

Fuck yes that gif! Amazing work.

emil.y, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:16 (six years ago) link

music for people in trouble is fine but i really dislike reincarnation and the sound of war and the highs don't come close to ten love songs. a lot of really surprising results this year

thanks to the poll runners!

ufo, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:17 (six years ago) link

Thankig u gr80 and poll runners. Great work allround.

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:17 (six years ago) link

yes, thanks!

Dan S, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:17 (six years ago) link

the right album won. i listened to well over 100 albums this year, a lot of them great, but none of them quite accomplished what kendrick did.

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:19 (six years ago) link

wow i just saw that gif in full, great work!!

imo the sundfor album was a huge step backwards from ten love songs. Undercover's great though

josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:19 (six years ago) link

I like DAMN. more than TPAB, there, I said it.

I pretty much knew back in April this was AOTY, couldn't conceive of anything coming along that would be more exciting, and that hasn't changed one bit since then.

Moodles, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:19 (six years ago) link

Love the steel guitar on Reincarnation (and preceding track)

thank you JF, gr8080, and seandalai for your amazing work. year-end shenanigans is always one of the most fun things about posting in this board, and y'all make it happen.

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:20 (six years ago) link

Listening to the Sundfor now...I like the sax.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:20 (six years ago) link

Kind of shocked Nite Jewel completely missed. I was convinced it would definitely make top 10. That album is tite! What happened?

Algerian Goalkeeper (Odysseus), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:21 (six years ago) link

the susanne record is a little sleepy, and it's way less direct, but the songs are just as strong as their counterparts on 10 love songs. just need a little time to get under your skin.

hoooyaaargh it's me satan (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:21 (six years ago) link

Thanks for the poll. Amazing scenes. These two albums soundtracked a trip to Iceland last October; part of me is forever listening to 'Undercover' on the coastal planes between Eyjafjallajökull the ghosts of the sea.

The shard-borne beetle with his drowsy hums (Chinaski), Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:21 (six years ago) link

monotony, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:24 (six years ago) link

Thanks to gr80 and seandalai

What's not to like about "The Sound of War"? My favourite track on a beautiful album (my #6).

Jeff W, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:24 (six years ago) link

Thanks so much for another great poll gr80/sean/forks!

imago, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:24 (six years ago) link

I found DAMN. really hard work. Perhaps that's the point? I will continue to persevere. "HUMBLE." started to click when I listened to it on the tracks playlist recently.

Jeff W, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:26 (six years ago) link

Yeah thanks a lot to the people involved

abcfsk, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:26 (six years ago) link
