yeah I don’t like it as much without Raja. They have good chemistry.

I also thought Raven didn't like Trixie, but she said 2 episodes ago that her makeup was always great and that she did one of the best makeup jobs out of all the queens from Drag Race because it's extreme but always blended. I think her comment about the jumpsuit was more ignorant than shady.

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 4 February 2018 22:23 (six years ago) link

Also I could totally see Mariah Carey wearing that fringed bathing suit. It didn't have to be an exact replica of something she's worn.

next week is the crossover episode with America's Next Top Model and I am TOO EXCITED

Out for blood, I love it.

Overall a really fun & great episode. The challenge was a hoot, Bendela and Trixie and Kennedy were hilarious omg. And yknow, I am not sad to see Milk go bcz she was working my last nerve with all of her needy delusional nonsense. I mean, all things being fair sure bounce ChiChi but fuck it, Kennedy’s way def makes for more interesting tv.

Annnnnd SNATCH GAME next week!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 February 2018 00:52 (six years ago) link

i keep thinking abt Kennedy The Party Girl taking off her wig in character
it’s still cracking me up

j0rdan and I got drinks in the West Village last night and when 8pm came I just wanted to take a baseball bat to the whole bar.

(not a comment on the show, which i couldn't hear anyway before we fled)

i went to a bar to watch the season premiere last year & felt the same way, it was a little ~much~

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 10 February 2018 01:59 (six years ago) link

Bebe should've been in the bottom for totally missing the chocolate-covered cherry joke IMO.

Milk has been pure mediocrity, she didn't even make a good villain. And double poo on her for depriving us of Trixie lols.

That lipsync! So riveting, one of my favorite ever.

Chard Michaels (Leee), Saturday, 10 February 2018 06:06 (six years ago) link

yeah I loved that Kennedy chose to stay put and give it a more emotional treatment

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 10 February 2018 06:16 (six years ago) link

YouTube recommended a "Bendelacreme interview" this week and I thought it was because she had somehow been eliminated, so when she talked this episode about the rollercoaster I was getting shook.

Chard Michaels (Leee), Saturday, 10 February 2018 17:46 (six years ago) link

epic thread:

I know y’all are good with photoshop. Would y’all be kind enough to photoshop Shangela’s iconic corn wig onto every single look I wore on Drag Race?

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 11 February 2018 21:14 (six years ago) link

Such a full couple of days but we had new episode last night and Snatch Game and whaddaya think?

(I think Trixie should be damn grateful and less dramatic and above all know the difference between casually brilliant imitations and overthinking them.)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 16 February 2018 20:09 (six years ago) link

Also, accurate.

I may never stop laughing about this. What a spectacular head fake from Shangela. Trixie saw her whole life flash before her eyes. #DragRace pic.twitter.com/ExpovzKjV5

"This person had a hugely successful YouTube series, loves making RuPaul-esque puns, and is named Trixie Mattel. I chose Chi Chi."

John Polly said in the extra lap recap that Shangela should be a producer. She is tv READY

loved Bendela’s Paul Lynde, it was so good. And Aja’s Crystal LaBeija was <3

lol @ “mya” angelou

Yeah those two were on point.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 16 February 2018 23:45 (six years ago) link

Shangela’s was good but it felt more Shangela than anything else, i didnt really rate it as a top performance? idk

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 16 February 2018 23:59 (six years ago) link

Yeah I didn't get that much comedy from Shangela, but I guess aside from Bendela she went for it the most.

I felt bad for Trixie. She was clearly overthinking, but I can understand how she is putting too much pressure on herself. The expectations on her are high and she's starting to freak out for not living up to them. She was good last week though.

LeRooLeRoo, Saturday, 17 February 2018 01:30 (six years ago) link

shangela's commentary was so funny in this episode

J0rdan S., Saturday, 17 February 2018 18:28 (six years ago) link

Shangela’s Game of Thrones is funny but there’s a scary undercurrent of “uh she really does think she’s Khaleesi, guys, you all better watch it”

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 17 February 2018 19:10 (six years ago) link

Yeah that's a metaphor that's getting a little too played out here.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 17 February 2018 20:41 (six years ago) link

Part of the reason Trixie & Katya ie Brian & Brian became close irl is becaise their personalities are very much fueled by anxiety & self-consciousness, struggling with weight or addiction, depression etc. And with Trixie returning again to the show that was the elephant in the room, even though she’s improved & is more confident now her subconscious mantra still had to be oh god what if i fail. And when it happened she spiked through the roof bcz she thought it was over.

My hope is that this moment for her was like Alaska’s breakdown in her first season, where that on-camera panic kind of breaks through the subconscious doubt & she can start embracing her full power & can stop carrying the selfdoubt everywhere.

sorry maybe that was a bit too fangirly “couch moment”

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 17 February 2018 21:12 (six years ago) link

shangela's commentary was so funny in this episode

I laughed out loud when she told us Trixie's RuPaul was our fault!

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 18 February 2018 00:24 (six years ago) link

I was amazed to discover that some non-RPDR-watching friends knew Shangela from Dance Moms. I wonder how much longer it'll be before she has her own show.

I assume you all saw that Irish Twitter went utterly bananas when RuPaul tweeted in Irish yesterday? Well, we did.

trishyb, Sunday, 18 February 2018 00:27 (six years ago) link

I caught that!

And now HERE’S news:

#DragRace season 10:

• will feature ALL 90-minute episodes
• will bring the return of Untucked to TV
• will premiere March 22 — immediately after AS3

🚨 Two hours of Drag Race. Every Thursday. Starting 3/22. 🚨https://t.co/22UNxEgiVj

I don't know how I have managed to live this long without watching this show, but I just started this month and am on Season 5. One curiosity though, the term "fish, fishiness, serving fish" to imply femininity??? I had never heard this before. I'm a little surprised that it seems to still be widely used considering that they stopped pushing she-mail.

Yerac, Monday, 19 February 2018 20:48 (six years ago) link

I mean, everything about Drag Race will soon be overruled by the new wokeness eventually

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Tuesday, 20 February 2018 00:22 (six years ago) link

Yeah, I only really started noticing it during season 4 and 5 and we both were like, why do they keep talking about fish...I really hope it doesn't mean what it seems to mean.

press release I just got ...

BOB THE DRAG QUEEN TO JOIN TRIXIE MATTEL AS GUEST CO-HOST OF VICELAND’S
‘THE TRIXIE & KATYA SHOW’ FOR FINAL FIVE EPISODES OF SEASON

February 22, 2018, Brooklyn, NY —“RuPaul’s Drag Race” fan favorite Bob The Drag Queen will join Trixie Mattel as guest co-host of VICELAND’s popular “THE TRIXIE & KATYA SHOW” for the remaining five episodes of the show’s first season, it was announced today. Bob’s first episode will air on Wednesday, February 28 at 10:30PM.

In making the announcement, co-host Trixie Mattel said, “For the second half of the season, we decided to get someone to make me look even more beautiful. Please welcome Bob the Drag Queen!"

On her new gig, Bob quipped, “I am so excited to be guesting on ‘THE TRIXIE & KATYA SHOW.’ I'm neither Trixie or Katya, but it is Black History Month so. . .”

Bob comes to the show to fill in for co-host Katya Zamolodchikova (aka Brian McCook) who announced earlier this year that he’s taking the year off to focus on his health.

“Everyone continues to support Brian on his path to getting healthy,” said VICELAND Executive Producer and SVP Development, Nomi Ernst Leidner, “While we will miss Katya dearly, we’re are very excited to offer fans more episodes of ‘THE TRIXIE & KATYA SHOW’ with another powerhouse from the Drag Race roster.”

“We love Katya more than words can say, " added World of Wonder co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey. "And we are so grateful to the she-larious Bob for stepping up and supporting his drag sisters.”

Trixie is currently appearing on the new season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars” and her recent single “Moving Parts” recently topped the iTunes singer/songwriter chart.

Uh, wait, what did I miss here.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 23 February 2018 17:39 (six years ago) link

That announcement was a month or so ago, but yes, it was a shocker. My hunch is that once the show went big, it got too far out of Katya's control. It certainly does feel different from (and in many ways inferior to) Uhhnnnn.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Friday, 23 February 2018 17:41 (six years ago) link

Yeah he said on Twitter he was struggling with his sobriety - it was just a very abrupt “this isn’t doing me any favors I gotta go like NOW”
Trixie said they still stay in touch etc so there’s no falling out or anything but it can’t have been easy to pick up the pieces from that, regardless

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 23 February 2018 17:43 (six years ago) link

Yeah I've seen a couple of the Viceland episodes and it's...just not as good. There are moments but the sheer careening silliness, as much a product of the brilliantly unhinged post-production as to what they were doing themselves, is absent and much missed.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 23 February 2018 17:46 (six years ago) link

idk i liked the Viceland show

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 23 February 2018 17:47 (six years ago) link

I mean, it's not the Rob Lowe version of Wayne's World or anything. But it's def not the same flavor.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Friday, 23 February 2018 17:50 (six years ago) link

Oof, nothing I've typed in the last year has so effortlessly dated myself.

clouds, Saturday, 24 February 2018 01:45 (six years ago) link

I agree.

I found this week to be more like an early-episode season-starter. Like, the theme was super exciting but then the actual challenge and runway were a little bit lame and disappointing? Or was it just me?

Plus the shorter run-time is really noticeable on these workroom-centric challenges, because you don't really get to see very much of what they're doing or how they're assembling their costumes etc.
