xpost tbf it was only her second single! i think there was a bit of excitement/relief that it was a punchy, brassy uptempo pop-rock song that didn't have the forehead-slapping lyric of "I Kissed A Girl." then her next few singles were all more or less instantly forgotten.

firework is one of the worst pop singles of my lifetime

wide awake or dark horse. of these the right one won

surely firework is not worse than "e.t." or "bon appetit."

or "this is how we do"

i can't think of a recording offhand worse than firework

e.t. is at least ridiculous

I mean the thing about "Firework" is its like a safe, straight version of an LGBT anthem - nothing explicitly about queer struggles and oppression, just a horribly shrill rote performance of pride signifiers, and I absolutely do not need my hand held and my voice taken by the same popstar who once sang "you're so gay and you don't even like boys." Katy Perry has a huge amount of great singles as kitchen person lists, but she is the least interesting or likeable thing about any of them.
