does cleveland have a single real meaningful asset beyond:

1. the nets pick
2. the increasingly slim chance of isaiah being good again and being a worthwhile rental/potential summer signing?

they have their 2018 1st round pick too, prob mid-late first round

fgti spinner (Spottie), Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:20 (six years ago) link

seems like crowder might have some value but he may have played himself out of it

fgti spinner (Spottie), Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:21 (six years ago) link

yeah im sure teams wldnt mind taking a look a crowder still, kover wade green even calderon all are tradeable, tho obvs theyre not bringing back any superstars but cld be useful in getting a deal done

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:28 (six years ago) link

love? not sure who wants him

marcos, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:29 (six years ago) link

love even with his broken hand cld be moved tho obvs the team wld need to not really care abt this season which narrows it down, but cld be perfect for one that wanted to tank for the rest of the season

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:30 (six years ago) link

if he wasnt injured hed be extremely tradable

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:30 (six years ago) link

anyway doesnt seem like the cavs are really looking to get anything done

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:31 (six years ago) link

if brons leaving anyway might as well try to get out from under that insane repeater tax, makes sense tbh especially since the right to resign isaiah is looking pretty worthless right now

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:33 (six years ago) link

#tradelebron gaining a lot of traction among cle talk radio callers btw

marcos, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:35 (six years ago) link

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:36 (six years ago) link

that seems excessive, though it is undeniably intriguing

the only thing is its pretty hard to trade lebron unless a. youre psyched about getting eric gordon and ryan anderson back b. you find a team thats willing to trade for him without a guarantee hell resign

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:38 (six years ago) link

xxp what the twopenny fuck it's gilbert for sure

tbh bron has totally fucked them with his noncommittal short contract leveraging bs, they prob wldve gotten paul george and maybe someone else if he just agreed to stay

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:42 (six years ago) link

see also various gm bron moves

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:46 (six years ago) link

idk seems like they should just go all in w/ lebron in the here & now and do whatever they can, all these callers saying they are sick of lebron's drama and they want to rebuild and i'm just like uhhhhhhh you've been to the finals for several straight years, everyone here is spoiled. obv lebron brings drama but jfc he is basically michael jordan for our generation you should do whatever to win w/ him now and stop whining about the drama he brings. our shitty brooklyn pick isn't gonna save us, we're gonna be fucked for years anyway imo may as well go #ALLIN right

marcos, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:47 (six years ago) link

the thing is they shdve gone allin with lebron this summer with or without a long term commitment but now its prob too late

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:51 (six years ago) link

yea i agree w/ that

marcos, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:53 (six years ago) link

btw kyrie kinda did cause this to some extent but hes also looking pretty prescient right now

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:54 (six years ago) link

The Celtics are chasing that extra first-round pick in Marcus Smart trade talks in hopes of flipping it in a deal for either Lou Williams or Tyreke Evans, league sources say

— Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) February 6, 2018

ha yeah they are, unclear why anyone wld be chasing marcus smart tho

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 16:59 (six years ago) link

if i'm a gm and ainge comes calling i straight up hang up the phone, remove from contact list and change my number, maybe even go as far as to change jobs.

fgti spinner (Spottie), Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:01 (six years ago) link

lmao

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:01 (six years ago) link

maybe some super protected pick that will likely turn into 2 2nd rounders in four years cld make this happen idk

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:01 (six years ago) link

kyrie looks like a genius, everyone thought he was crazy

spiritual alchemy

for kyrie, it's something he's huge in

marcos, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:02 (six years ago) link

also seems unlikely anyones looking to move a first for tyreke/lou rentals

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:02 (six years ago) link

who needs to reach the salary floor and are a bunch of morons?

*scrambles through contacts list looking for FORMAN*

jokes aside they prob got most of what they needed in that respect out of attaining asik

Marcus Smart changing teams sounds like something that will cause both teams to become worse

ciderpress, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:06 (six years ago) link

possibly all teams will become worse

ciderpress, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:06 (six years ago) link

the league will decline true

ehhhhhh

k3vin k., Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:08 (six years ago) link

if lebron didn’t insist on playing on one year deals, playing each year as championship or bust, filling up the roster with his friends and agents co-clients, and generally sowing discord and uncertainty 24/7, things could have worked out differently

k3vin k., Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:10 (six years ago) link

now post that in comic sans

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:10 (six years ago) link

I also think that many people seem to be operating under the assumption that if the cavs were to make the brooklyn pick available that there are deals out there that could actually move the needle as far as propelling them into title contention, but by all accounts this is not the case

k3vin k., Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:13 (six years ago) link

also if lebron disliked dan gilbert so much he should have just signed with another team

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:17 (six years ago) link

it's taken almost as a given that the nature of lebron & dan gilbert's relationship was going to lead to this destructive stalemate but he could have uhh just gone to one of the other 31 teams

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:19 (six years ago) link

no it's the internet rules that dan gilbert has to bend to bran's every whim because we like bron and don't like gilbert

k3vin k., Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:20 (six years ago) link

ah yeah lebron should go to one of the two secret teams

ciderpress, Tuesday, 6 February 2018 17:20 (six years ago) link

the Philadelphia 77'ers

well still at the end of the day lebron shouldn't lie to them and say he's coming back if he's not. he probably really isn't sure! the cavs i think have done ok under those circumstances... threading the needle with the kyrie thing was a defensible move tho they should have been way more hard on the celtics about the IT stuff.

the bigger problem is not what happened the past offseason but the stuff that happened before that -- the TT, shump, JR contracts etc -- that are a symptom of constantly mortgaging your future for lebron. idk how they were supposed to get around that except i guess to acquire better players.
